The idea that we should "give up" all material things is not about actually not having them, it's about not being ATTACHED to them if they disappeared. We are alive and whilst living we need food, shelter and others things that lead to comfort which then leads to a longer and more fulfilling life.

"The Secret" helps people get into the right mindset so that they can create a life without fear of debt, etc hanging over their heads.
