The Glory Days of the Big Spin in which people holding up signs and banners cheering for the contestant just like on a Baseball game when they support for their team.
I remember when this show aired on KTTV in LA during the 80's and early 90's, then moved to KNBC during the mid 90's, before settling on KCAL where it has been since around 95-96. Geoff Edwards is craaaaazy!
It counted the number of complete revolutions made by the wheel. It had to do three revolutions in order for the spin to count. It lit red, red, green, and once the green light was lit, it meant that this was it, no do-overs.
As I grew up in the 80's, I remember seeing this show a lot. This music brought back many memories, and I still remember humming it from time to time. Also, I remember balloons being drop on this show for every time that the $1M was won. I wonder why it did not happen on this show since it was more than $1M.
This is how I remembered The Big Spin...I used to watch this every Saturday night for years. Like kambreesuncle mentioned, no stupid games to just the earn the right to spin the wheel. Just a handful of contestants coming in and spinning the wheel with a little good conversation in between.
The song that they play when the wheel is spun is a classic jingle. Here in this video the wheel isn't spinning long enough to hear the rest of the jingle.
If Pat Sajak called you right now, would you recognize your voice? Probably not. Your brain would be telling you it's somebody else, because you're not exactly expecting a phone call from Pat Sajak.
i know that if the ball lands in the double slot u get another spin at double the payout, but what would happen if the grand prize came up in that spin?
does anyone know what year this was, that 3,000,000+ win clearly beats Brad Rutter's Jeopardy record (wikipedia claims Rutter has won more then anyone on a TV game show and I want to set the record straight)
It's 1988, but this wasn't even the biggest win of the series. (They gave away a $15 million jackpot at some point.) I don't know if I'd be in a rush to correct Wiki. #1, "The Big Spin" only aired in one state, so who cares? #2. You'd also have to verify that some other state lotto game show didn't give away more.
In San Francisco it started on KGO-TV along with other Statewide ABC Affiliates in California then it was succeded by KTVU from 1986-1988 before moving to KOFY (now YourTV 20) in 1988-1994, then KRON from 1994-1999, then back to KBWB until Summer 2001 as the shows goes to KPIX until 2003 as it went back to KRON.
This is "The Big Spin" how I remembered it. Geoff Edwards still called the shots. Everybody spun the wheel. No stupid quickie games. No stupid gameboard. No Pat Finn. lol
Have any Big Spin episodes from 90-91-92 and 93?

Does anybody know what the green light and the two red lights underneath the wheel stood for? It kinda looks like a traffic light.

how much did the grand prize go up by when it wasn't won? (i know it started at $1 million)
Wheeloffortunefan999 4 years ago
It started at $2,000,000, actually. $25,000 was added for every spin before it was won.

How Come Todays Big Spin is limited to $3 Million?
Dook790 4 years ago
Because that was the way they decided they wanted to do it.
