  • I cant believe this!

I simply think this is bullshit!

I will be convinced only if I see it myself

  • Just by following the suggestion in the description..I'm not exactly on the road of not following suggestions am I. haha

  • Some of these must be fake.

  • if someone suggested that i give them my house keys i'd suggest they go fuck themselves

  • i think its easier to deceive clerks by the power of suggestion because theyre handling money all day, to them its routine and they think nothing of it if theyre distracted, their mind sort of goes into auto pilot once they make the sale and the distraction your mind normally cant effectively process more than a few things at once? just my thoughts on it

  • I surely hope he gave those people their food/jewelry back!

  • fake!

  • I think this video is an act of suggestion in and of itself.

  • wow, the blank piece of paper is insane

  • @ilnn408 why do u call kate moss insane? she's not insane.she's just DULL.

  • i'm a woman &I'M NOT A BLANK PEICE OF PAPER.u'r confusing me with kate moss.I'M NOT HER.

  • shit. im immune to suggestion and i dnt want to be. no suggestion tests work cuz i know whats going to happen and how my subconscious will react so wen i see it reacting my conscious says stop. ugh i dnt get it. is this cuz i know why it would work to unaware people? am i aware? i cant even explain it. im slightly analytical i guess but my imagination is off the scale and no suggestion tests ive triedhere work. whats wrong with me?

  • hey i dont understand his giving them white paper??WTF is doesnt make sense are they that stupid?

  • Luck54321, have you ever fallen for a woman? Same thing as blank paper.

  • @KevinSolway lol No my nigga IM a playa but still explain it and break it Down

  • The beauty of women is an illusion. Women are like a blank canvas upon which we project what we want to see. But when we see what's really there . . . there's nothing there.

  • @KevinSolway okay ur making no sense dont reply back seriously like ur comparing what im trying 2 ask 2 women and u definitely dont know shit about them !!=P

  • 1:53 IT'S PCS!!!!!!!

  • The majority of people are very gullible, thus this is why the power of suggestion works. Had the guy stumped on someone very aware of himself and secure in his persona, he certainly would had not walked off with his wallet, watch and cell phone, by merely suggesting he hand them to him. As the new dollar bills all have to be identified, to be legit, he would have never ripped off a wal-mart cashier!

  • I'm not quite sure that those of us watching the vid are not the ones being gulled.

    (-;

  • I don't believe it a bit someone must be out of his or her mind to fall for this

  • 5:20 --"been thinking the wrong way",-- i think that too is a suggestion

  • Good point.

  • wow..

  • Thanks for the great video Men of the Infinite. I could finally get my girlfriend to realize that gypsies (no joke) don't actually possess any mystical mind control! I really wish I was kidding about this.

  • Wow... heheh.. did she believed in this?

  • Excellent video, thanks for taking the time to make it!

  • I studied why and how this works and am absolutely fascinated. Derren Brown was honest about how this does not work with everyone, and to degrees, and statistics about 10% being the very suggestible, which are a dream to work with, he gauges this by seeing how they follow him with body language and social cues.

  • Obi-Wan Kanobi is the master of this ^^

  • Yeah, but he does everything by Force! That's violence! :)

  • I mean that he says "You want to lick your elbow," the person he says it to tries to lick his elbow! That's the power of suggestion at its best!

  • I think Gene Simmons can lick his elbow.

  • @MenoftheInfinite oh, you are good at suggestion aren't you? haha

  • wrong, the force is not violence. it's just like The Power of Suggestion

  • Great break-down Kevin. I would add that Brown uses "anchoring" a lot. In the Russian Scam vid (last one) he hands the empty bottle to the guy for anchoring purposes. When the guy returns, he asks him to hold the empty bottle again. This is meant to trigger the somatic state of the individual in the prior session. In other words, to put him right back into the trance.

  • My bad, I saw that on the second viewing. I didn't think I missed anything!

  • The powers of misdirection!

  • I was thinking about that, you suggested I might miss something and I did!

  • Did you see that? No? Damn, I'm good!

  • No, I didn't see anything. The question I have is, did you see it? Or am I misdirecting your misdirection and you really did do something?

  • Don't confuse me!

  • "Did you see that? No? Damn, I'm good! "

That sounds like something Tommy Cooper would say. He was one lazy magician!

  • Derren Brown and other hypnotists who describe themselves as sceptics often state that most of the battle in hypnotism is finding a person who is suggestable. Everyone is suggestable, but only few are as suggestable as those portrayed in the clips - the skill comes down to finding the right person from the audience.

  • Yes, no doubt of that. Of course, Brown is not just a hypnotist. He uses a variety of techniques to do what he does. Naturally his show wouldn't put to air his failures. But they would be just as interesting to see, I reckon.

  • Good video, and I think your analyses of what Brown is doing are largely correct.

People are generally quite suggestible and it isn't hard to believe that an expert such as Brown could do this. Still amazing to see, though.

  • This Is One Of The Most Interesting Psychological Tricks I Have Ever Seen, Thanks For Posting Kevin.

  • One thing I forgot to mention in the video was the technique of invading a person's personal space, which was used when Brown shook the fellow's hand, and when Sylver grabbed and led the woman by the hand. This has the effect of the gullible person letting the aggressor into their confidence.

  • Furthermore, there is the 'leading' aspect. When you take someone by the hand and lead them, you have indirectly asserted yourself as the dominant influence in the discussion.

A way to test your influence: is when you are in a group-setting, like sitting on a couch, and the dominant person in the group suddently decides to stand up. Usually, everyone else follows his lead - but if you keep sitting there - they will find it very odd and unsettling.

  • Brown is definitely kosher. You're totally right about the suggestive words like "buy", "payment", etc. And especially "you're happy to take that". The uncompleted handshake is particularly effective as a brain-freeze upon the victim who then innocently surrenders control in a form of suspense awaiting the handshaker to take the lead. Of course total confidence, eye contact and credibility also required. Wouldn't work on everyone; obviously they only show the successes.

  • Yes, Brown openly admits that these techniques only work on certain personality types, or work more effectively on them. It's a bit disturbing, really, to think about what might actually work on us personally.

  • I was told about an experiment where the male experimental subjects were all told that, as part of the experiment, they would all meet an attractive female actor, who, as part of the experiment, would smile at them. Afterwards, they all reported that they believed the woman smiled at them because she was really attracted to them. I think that would be a case of self-suggestion.

  • Thanks for articulating that more clearly, Kevin. However, I disagree that this experiment is a case of self-suggestion. The "hypnosis" was engineered deliberately though indirectly by the experimenters.

The point I was trying to make was that people are more easily hypnotised when they feel the hypnotiser likes them, and appears to have their well-being in mind.

  • I've seen the guy that buys stuff with blank paper before. He's pretty cool..... but i'm finding it REALLY hard to believe the end. (maybe that's the point and the jokes on me, idk)

you should post some sources so i can do a little research.... cuz it'd be cool IF it was real.

  • Derren Brown is quite brilliant. I advise doing a Youtube search for him. There are a number of truly fascinating videos available. Just type his name into the search box.

  • There comes another video I hope?! I was really looking forward to some kick ass advice for avoiding this kind of manipulation.

  • I think the video contains that advice in the form of showing how such manipulation works. The antidote is simply: consciousness.

  • Become aware of the techniques that are being used. Furthermore, scepticism and pessimism is sure to make you keep both your feet on the ground. No matter how great the hypnotist or illusionist, noone can make you do something that you genuinely don't want to do.

Stay aware and focuesed. The reason it can be pulled off on many of these victims are, that their thoughts are centered in anything but the present moment.

  • Thank you, Dalsgaard.

  • What are you suggesting with this video? I'd really like to see if this works on me, I doubt it, but I bet so would almost all the people that fell for it.

Not sure if I completely believe that last clip of Brown.

  • Everything Brown does seems to be kosher. I think the reason we doubt it is that we don't like to think we're really susceptible to that kind of stuff.

  • I would not have any problem thinking or knowing that I am susceptible to that, there are all sorts of really dumb things that I'm sure I would fall for in the correct situations. But that last clip of brown seams so surreal, that he would be able to manipulate someone to such a great extent, that the guy he manipulated had an accent like his even though they were in the US [a plant? A jetlagged tourist? etc], and that he would be taken in by it twice. Just seams like red flags to me.

  • The location of the last Derren Brown clip was somewhere in England.

  • Ah, I assumed it was still in New York with the other clips.

  • Poor editing on my part. As I understand it, the person was transported back into the trance state by handing him the plastic bottle. That's why he fell for it again.

  • I'm still skeptical of this.

  • Yes, I'm skeptical too. That's why I said that in the subtitles I would explain what I *think* is happening . . . just to cover myself! But what is happening in that vid is consistent with what I've seen happen in ordinary life. People do the most bizarre things.

  • I've watched a lot of Brown's stuff and whilst it is at times quite astonishing, I can't find any evidence that it isn't kosher.

  • cant believe !!!

  • Most people - especially women - are always hypnotised by something or the other. There are very, very few people who are not under the spell of some form of hypnosis.

  • This is very true. Sadly, it's most often a form of self-hypnosis. Human psychology is riddled with self-defeating and dangerous attributes.

  • Good vid. It's amazing how open we are to influence from others. I think one effective defense against this sort of thing is understanding yourself and your thought process. If you are familiar with how your mind works, then it is much easier to identify thoughts that have been planted there by someone other than you.

I have a sign on the inside of my bedroom door that says "make the choice" It reminds me that everything I do is a choice, and should be made through active thought process.

  • That's why conflict with others, distrust, and argumentation are more mentally healthy than pleasantry and politeness.

An interesting experiment showed that the average man who is told that he'll meet a woman who will smile at him (as part of an experiment), he still thinks she actually likes him personally despite being informed about the situation.

  • I agree with your point about social pleasantness. Agreement doesn't always indicate conscious understanding. But then, I suppose one has to say that disagreement doesn't always indicate it either. The key, as always, is reason.
