"Hi, my name is ______ and I'd like to direct my question to..." such eloquent speakers in the audience of young adults. They sounded like this in the 70s... and now kids sound either like shy retards or thuggish pimps. It's okay to be and sound intelligent, people! Don't be afraid.
Did you notice Castillos eyes? He was feelin so fine. The group did not answer the eternal question What is Hip? No one mentioned where they got the name Tower of Power. In my opinion the Rock Hall has no credibility as they never inducted this band when that shabby self serving organization was first formed. TOP has been and is Real. Real Musicians. They are Great Live! Don Cornelius should interview Barry White. By audio accounts, we couldn't tell who is who
Ive listened to some saxophone players and I hate to compare but the Lenny Picket solo on the Tower of power live album is one of the best solos you''ll ever hear by a long way for any instrument , I bought it years later on CD unbelievable .
Cool that DC interviewed that band. What's interesting is that the band is racially mixed, and none of the predominately black audience seemed to care about that.
@groundhog713 not sure what you're insinuating with that...innumerable ALL-WHITE groups have performed on Soul Train, all were well received...plus Don always interviews the performers...
@groundhog713 I don't think as a rule black people do care about it its the white people who do, we see ourselves as different they don't. I went to an international church mainly African, didnt feel the slightest awkwardness towards me or treated different because I was white. Er... go to a white church I feel out of place weighed up and looked over, I don't know why. I find this in life in general. We're all Humans, also Tower of power were a shit hot band, and quality is quality.
Yes they are all high, especially the lead sing Lenny Williams (who I love and can sing and beg his ass off), but my favorite part of the interview is when the girl with braid hair style. Who ever did her hair knew what they were doing, I lover her hair.
wow! so great to see the line up of players when the band reached the pinnacle of funk music of 1973. you might also enjoy the you tube video-fred horn move yo feet- with a backwards beat and a killin' bridge complete with horn section-also check out freddy horn ,com
Mimi smoked waaay too much pot before the performance! He can't stop giggling!

BTW- Saw the band not long before this show on Sept. 27, 1973, at UC Davis. It was my first concert. To say it was life-changing is no exaggeration.
