Beautiful voice and incomparable Mozart. But, gift from God? More like a gift from DNA, dedicated teachers and perseverance. When some people ascribe that these are "gifts from God", our world has other "gifts" which include poverty, AIDS, polio, malaria, dementia. It is a real pity that almost every comment bank on YouTube has to be invaded by the religious nutters. Why can't we just enjoy the good music, and leave it at that.
I was with you up until you start disparaging religious devotion, considering this is religious music. Many religious folks help preserve the music and help offer it to more audiences.
@montyzoomer123 Poverty,AIDS,Polio,Malaria and Dementia can't be attributed to God. He created man giving him dominion over the Earth. Once man ate the fruit man allowed sin to enter the world and handed the metaphorical “Keys” to the Earth over to Satan. Through him(Satan)Poverty,AIDS,etc. are in the Earth. Christ came and died taking back the “keys” hence we should be free, but man still sinned so we are born into it. Not till we“invite him into our heart”,that we become free.
A lovely and inspired but oh so old fashioned performance of a masterpiece. The music speaks for it self, but you can't perform Mozart like this anymore nowadays, with so much vibrato and operatic intention and thick orchestration. Still a lovely example of what not so long ago was the standard of performing classical music!
Easily my favourite solo I ever did as a chorister, i just logged off everything and sat for 4:45 longer than I intended to listen to this. Exquisite hardly covers it!
Ferruccio Furlanetto is my Leporello forever... Maestro Karajan's Don Giovanni with three of the singers here is forever my favorite. Amazing, amazing Mozart. Now I realize I'm already 5 years past his age of death, it's unbelievable how a man can manage composing more than 400 masterpieces. His brain must have been constantly exploding with inspirations hitting him like rain of meteors that put dinosaurs to end.
Sublime ! Miss Battle displays true artistic genius here and the interpretaion by her and the conductor is stunning in it's beaty and siplicity. Exactly what Mozart envisged - I am sure.

Dear Lord in Heaven -- grant everyone in this thing a plenary indulgence!! What a work! Did you notice Herbert von Karajan? This was a total act of worship for him, I think he would like to have died at the last note. Kathleen Battle did great honor to the composer, he (I hope) heard it and said--"now that's the way I wanted it done!" I am so thankful it was videoed so I get to hear it too. The wonder of it all is something else!
I agree, I am currently working on this in choral and have usually taken it a bit faster. The version recorded by the London Symphony Orchestra is also taken faster.
Perfection - my ears are in heaven! This is so sublime! Kathleen Battle is indeed one of my favourites for good reason. Not a note out of place - excellent control - a performance for the gods! BRAVO! BRAVO! ENCORE!!!!!
Sublime music. Did Mozart write anything medicore? What depth of expression he brings to this liturgical text. The first section is marvellous; the second is almost unbearable in its beauty. What an extraordinary prayer for reconciliation with God & for peace.
AGNUS DEI - (Lamb of God) --Dedicated to all people, who possess a Noble innocence & purity in their heart ....One day, there will be redeemed in a Blessed & Divine way...Believe me. It works.

She's a lyric coloratura soprano...good grief...she sounds like a dramatic lyric coloratura soprano. Talk about power and beauty.
Don't know what happened in 1994. Perhaps the pressures of perfection went to her head. She had a falling out with the Met.
Anyway, she really must be one of the best sopranos in history. Her vibrato and coloratura are beautiful.

It's a nice rendition. But for me is just too slow.

I agree, I am currently working on this in choral and have usually taken it a bit faster. The version recorded by the London Symphony Orchestra is also taken faster.

Sublime music. Did Mozart write anything medicore? What depth of expression he brings to this liturgical text. The first section is marvellous; the second is almost unbearable in its beauty. What an extraordinary prayer for reconciliation with God & for peace.

Yes, Karajan was known for his slow tempos. But Battle...one of my favourite sopranos. Lyrical and stunning interpretation.
