  • Does anyone know when this was performed?

  • Simply incredible!!!

  • people love how they worship, but not the God they worship

  • PIĘKNE !!!

  • von Karajan's expression at 4:16-4:17...priceless.

  • wonderful!

  • Spectacular!!!

  • Truly magnificent i think Kathleen has the finest voice of any soprano today and there a lot in the world today and all very nice to listern too.Maria Callas was always my favorite and i cryed when i saw her life story, however if i had 2 CDs one with Kathleen the other Maria i would not know which one to put on first.Tom W

  • fantástica interpretação!

  • I thought it WAS Bernstein till I read that blurb

  • Niebiaństwo

  • Wspaniałe wykonanie , piękny głos !

  • Beautiful voice and incomparable Mozart. But, gift from God? More like a gift from DNA, dedicated teachers and perseverance. When some people ascribe that these are "gifts from God", our world has other "gifts" which include poverty, AIDS, polio, malaria, dementia. It is a real pity that almost every comment bank on YouTube has to be invaded by the religious nutters. Why can't we just enjoy the good music, and leave it at that.

  • @montyzoomer123

I was with you up until you start disparaging religious devotion, considering this is religious music. Many religious folks help preserve the music and help offer it to more audiences.

  • @montyzoomer123 Poverty,AIDS,Polio,Malaria and Dementia can't be attributed to God. He created man giving him dominion over the Earth. Once man ate the fruit man allowed sin to enter the world and handed the metaphorical “Keys” to the Earth over to Satan. Through him(Satan)Poverty,AIDS,etc. are in the Earth. Christ came and died taking back the “keys” hence we should be free, but man still sinned so we are born into it. Not till we“invite him into our heart”,that we become free.

  • Hope that helps. : )

  • Sublime!

  • Just fantastic!

  • Agnus Dei translates to Lamb of God which is part of the Holy Mass in the Catholic Church

Lamb of God that takes away the sins of the world , have mercy on us

Lamb of God that takes away the sins of the world , have mercy on us

Lamb of God that takes away the sins of the world , grant us peace

  • WOW! That takes my breath away and makes my eyes tear up - It is so beautiful!

  • MARAVILHOSO!!! A Angel singing :)

  • ESTO ES DIOS !!!!!

EFECTIVAMENTE A QUIEN NO LE AGRADE ESTA MUSICA HABREMOS DE VER QUE TIPO DE PERSONALIDAD TIENE.

  • A lovely and inspired but oh so old fashioned performance of a masterpiece. The music speaks for it self, but you can't perform Mozart like this anymore nowadays, with so much vibrato and operatic intention and thick orchestration. Still a lovely example of what not so long ago was the standard of performing classical music!

  • Easily my favourite solo I ever did as a chorister, i just logged off everything and sat for 4:45 longer than I intended to listen to this. Exquisite hardly covers it!

  • Ferruccio Furlanetto is my Leporello forever... Maestro Karajan's Don Giovanni with three of the singers here is forever my favorite. Amazing, amazing Mozart. Now I realize I'm already 5 years past his age of death, it's unbelievable how a man can manage composing more than 400 masterpieces. His brain must have been constantly exploding with inspirations hitting him like rain of meteors that put dinosaurs to end.

  • For 7:25 minutes I was in Heaven and back.

  • Sublime ! Miss Battle displays true artistic genius here and the interpretaion by her and the conductor is stunning in it's beaty and siplicity. Exactly what Mozart envisged - I am sure.

  • Bravo!

  • Nog een keer en nog een keer en nog een keer .

Again and again and again .

  • I wish I was singing this in the key of C....I have to sing t in A flat. But lovely song! thank you for posting this! This is one of the songs I have to sing and perform this semester. She has a gorgeous soprano voice....no scooping or over operatic ;-)

  • this woman's voice is just fantastic, both purity and power

  • This is a very peaceful and pious Agnus Dei, in a very classical style, but I prefer the Agnus Dei in the Requiem, which is more dramatic.

  • Agnus Dei, qui tollis peccata mundi, miserere nobis!!!

  • Voz maravilhosa e que encanta nesta obra triste de Mozart.

  • Her voice was so amazing :* Love it!!!

  • If you would have done that on Idols they would have kicked her out for making them jealous.

  • Her voice is so pure that some notes made my speakers go static-y. This woman is incredible

  • Lindo..Magnifico.

  • DIVINO ADNUS DEI, CON EL MEJOR COMPOSITOR DEL SIGLO XX KARAJAN, ENHORABUENA.

  • Miss Battle displays all of the skills one would expect of a World class singer. Her breathing & support are magnificent. A natural & warm vibrato (never overstated) and a stunning coloratura - this cannot be taught - it is a gift from God.

Is it me ?- but is von Karajan looking very like the late, great Leonard Bernstein ? Beautifully conducted too !

  • @rodthomas999 i totally thought he looked like Bernstein as well

  • She's a lyric coloratura soprano...good grief...she sounds like a dramatic lyric coloratura soprano. Talk about power and beauty.

Don't know what happened in 1994. Perhaps the pressures of perfection went to her head. She had a falling out with the Met.

Anyway, she really must be one of the best sopranos in history. Her vibrato and coloratura are beautiful.

  • Mozart alone has looked on beauty bare.

  • Oh Dios mio pero qUE VOZ tan cool!! XD

  • What do they call that woman...?

  • un vertica della umana preghiera

  • The only word that describes this is Magnificent. FOR ME: Kathllen Battle is the

is one best Sopranos of all time. We don't often get the chance to watch her technique, breath control, and the professionalism with which she delivers.

I keep coming back to this video whenever I'm having a down day, or need a little boost.of Faith.

My other great favourite of hers is "Eternal source of Light Divine" by Handel; which she does with Wynton Marsalis, also on UTube.

    I hope's remembered.

  • The angels can't make music this beautiful, heaven listens to Mozart.

  • no words can describe how fantastic this video. thank you.

  • Beautiful...

  • Mozart is God's voice

  • Bravissima!

  • BELLO BELLO BELLO!

  • brava...

  • God spoke through Mozat, in all he composed.

  • @2007blanche I don't know who Mozat is, but don't give whichever god you're talking about credit for Mozart's talent.

  • @3234718 If you don't know who Mozart is, how can you make any comment at all. Have you never heard of someone having a "God given talent"?

  • @bsps98 I was mocking your spelling and your theism. You wrote Mozat, and suggested some god spoke through this Mozat. Is it Jesus? Or Thor? Perhaps the all powerful Flying Spaghetti Monster? (praise His name)

  • @3234718 Glory to the Flying Spaghetti Monster! xD

  • OOH, what a voice! *-*

  • I would really like to meet the 5 people who disliked this, just to see what kind of messed up personalities they have!

  • @OneHindo maybe they don't like Mozart...or that they're parents were too poor to give them a musical education and thus an appreciation for Classic music ( thus were just swept into popular culture with the masses). It's a bit harsh to assume that they have messed up personalities!

  • @aortablue I don't even remember commenting lol! sorry it IS harsh.. but for me, something like this should never be disliked.. I would be ashamed to hit the dislike button :S

  • @aortablue I think like you

  • @OneHindo they have NO personality, dude.

  • @Vessel4Praise I guess so! except that I am not a dude ;) :D

  • @OneHindo my bad dudette! ;0)

  • I cry

  • ¡Simplemente Sublime! Una soprano con voz de angel y un director con inspiración divina para celebrar un aniversario del pontificado de Juan Pablo II

  • What a wonderfull piece of sacred music!!! Mozart!!!!!!

  • Love this music

  • Dona nobis pacem…Give us Peace…a true Prayer for Earth right now

  • at 2:29 i read miserable noobs O___O

    great music though.

  • the beginning of this reminds me so much of an aria from the marriage of figaro if i can only remember its name - ok i checked and it's "e susanna non vien...dove sono", the part where she goes "dove sono". then again, he's known for recycling melodies and well, i think he mostly does a good job of it. kinda fun to spot them :D

  • How wonderfull, Mozart is such a Genius

  • @HOLYWOODANGEL I'm pretty sure Agnus Dei wasn't actually written by Mozart. at least a majority of it wasn't

  • i agree

  • 4 people agreed with me

  • Magnificent!

  • Very moving and very beautiful! Also very appropriate sentiments: Give us peace!

What a pity Kathleen has become such a selfcentered bitch!

  • Dona nobis pacem! Frohe und gesegnete Ostern!

  • Kathleen Battle's voice is beautiful and magnificent. I love very much listening to her voice.

  • Wow

  • 2nd oboe at 0:09??!!

  • Je suis aller au Vatican il n'y a pas longtemps...

    J'aurais aimé assisté à ça.

Vive Mozart et Vive la musique ;) Lol

  • can you imagine being the first to witness this masterpiece when it was conducted for the first time.... I'm watching it on film and it brings me to tears....

  • beautiful but shes such a diva... haha

  • K Battle has one of the most beautiful Mozart voices I have ever heard! Excruciating beauty

  • I love her voice. Love how how she projects her voice

  • How can anyone not like this? Kathleen was great and the entire performance beyond perfect!!!1

  • @femkem99 Maybe someone clicked on the wrong link lol or they are an anti-Karajanite? lol

  • I could do that easy

  • I can hardly hear the voice of the alto....

  • AGNUS DEI

Agnus Dei, qui tollis pecatta mundi:

    dona eis requiem.

Agnus Dei, qui tollis peccata mundi:

    dona eis requiem.

Agnus Dei, qui tollis peccata mundi.

    dona eis requiem sempiternam.

  • AGNUS DEI

Lamb of God, who takes away the sins of the world,

    grant them rest.

Lamb of God, who takes away the sins of the world,

    grant them rest.

Lamb of God, who takes away the sins of the world,

    grant them eternal rest.

  • .. humble, this music, ...tears, sobbing... joy!

  • Lindo, maravilhoso, fantástico, louvo à Deus por ter nos enviado esse ser de luz e ter nos deixado um legado tão fantástico.MGA

  • Kathleen Battle is one of the best sopranos I've ever heard..

  • Makes me cry almost evey time...pure geniality!!!

  • Agnus Dei, dona nobis pacem.

  • Beautiful interpretation of Agnus Dei - excellent singer and maestro, excellent settings. It's a beautiful video. Thanks for sharing.

  • Just beautiful

  • Beautiful...

  • yes, here here, john lennon indeed what atalentless faggot. and ask for the prussien coments , well words fail me. i suppose u think the joke about france haveing tee lined avenues because germans like marching in the shade joke amusing.

  • This performance... is one of mankind's better moments.

  • wow!

  • some people in the know say that von Karajan was a prick .

He was an arrogant Karpatenkopf. If I would have met him on a dark street I would have clicked my heels like the prussian that my grandmopther was and rather than invite him to a duel, I would have slapped his face .

John Lennon, well that´s a different matter.

    Sick , no ?.

I thought his KV 427 on YT was surpassed by several different productions.

  • @bonsema1

You don't get it, neither did Lennon. You and his memory should go somewhere, anywhere but here.

  • she is too good to be true. I love u

  • Lovely ,powerful stuff. Kathleen Battle has never sounded lovelier.

  • who in the world had the guts to dislike this?

  • Mozart and his divine melodies

  • ey bokkoe

  • Glorious experience

  • does anyone know where i can download this song online? it's so beautiful by her.

  • @desariofan there are quite a few programs on the market that will enable you to download .flv files off sites like youtube and extract the sound track. Just do a search for ".flv converter". IMO Real Media SP is the easiest to use, and its free. But keep in mind that to fit in this format you do not get anywhere near the quality of sound as on the sort of thing you can download from places like Amazon.

  • Escalas en el papel

    tiritando como peces

Y sus dos palmas muy juntas

    en un solo miserere

  • @das0448 Not silly at all. It's available both on CD and DVD. There are two DVD releases, so be sure to check for the suitable region code. Each DVD comes with a booklet with a Von Karajan biography and a recounting of how the Mass came to be celebrated. A treasure!

  • whenever i enjoy wam´s compositions conducted gifted i believe in creation

  • PRECIOSO

  • simple, pure, heavenly mastered.

  • To das0448: anything with karajan Is available on cd, just a guess but I'm pretty sure of it.

  • Mozart, Karajan, Beattle. Quina maravella. Escruixidor fins el moll de l'os.

    Ara ja em puc morir

  • She has always sang extraordinarily well when conducted by Maestro Karajan.

  • Beautiful, so effortless. Lorna Kelly

  • Battle is phenomenal here. Honestly, only classical music seems to be really divinely inspired. Bach's music, this voice, they are like proof of God's existence. It is nice to observe how the grand old Meister Von Karajan is sometimes clearly swept away by the beauty of her voice.

  • What a beautiful voice and manner she has

  • The word "divine" must have been invented to describe Battle.

  • WOW!!!!!!

  • GEORGEOUS!!!!!! MATEMATICAL PERFECT.

  • SPECTACULAR video--a wonderful treat for the ears, the eyes and the spirit--I love it!

  • adorei a voz da Kathellen Battle =)

  • this womans talent is beyond human comprehension

  • Une belle voix légère avec un magnifique timbre !

  • Music for Eternity!

  • i can't stop listening to this!!!!!!

just wish i'm a soprano and can sing the solo as awesomely as kathleen battle did here

and OMG mozart, i remember walking out of a rehearsal for this piece and shouting WHY DID MOZART DIE!!!?!?!?!?!?!

    sooooooooooooooooo beautiful!

  • Tanks for uploading this!!! I really love love love! this song and this video because you can see the face of kathleen and the interaction with Karajan...

  • love this!!!

  • With such great, sublime and spiritually uplifting music around and with other Sacred Polyphony and Gregorian Chant available there is simply no excuse for the banal pop culture liturgy we have had to suffer for 45 years. It certainly puts the immediate post-conciliar folk preferences for Kumbaya etc., to shame.

  • @hughraphaeli

I think that pop music is as sacred as this music. I am, like you, of course, stunned by these amazing pieces, but some of the modern music that has come out in the last half-century, is also absolutely genius (for example, Bohemian Rhapsody is absolutely divine) !

And, remember, not everything was as beautiful as this 300 years ago, there was a lot of shitty music too, but it has been forgotten, as it should be.

  • amazing!!!

  • amazing!

  • WOW i am in Awe! first time hearing this :)

  • Loved this! Kathleen Battle's voice gives me chills :)

  • Esta mujer me hipnotiza, no puedo dejar de verla y escucharla, ¡maravillosa!

  • This touch the soul, beauty beyond believes

  • Simplemente espectacular... después de escuchar esto, a ver quien se pone a cantar el Agnus Dei! ;-)

  • Mozart is smiling!

  • I miss Kathleen Battle. I love her voice... this is a great film. Mozart's genius transcends his — and our — lack of faith.

  • Lamb of God is a great theme of the Jewish temple prayer. So too Christians can claim this prayers as our own. The music captures the weight of the word itself. The movement is beseeching, asking to the almighty forgiveness.

  • Dear Lord in Heaven -- grant everyone in this thing a plenary indulgence!! What a work! Did you notice Herbert von Karajan? This was a total act of worship for him, I think he would like to have died at the last note. Kathleen Battle did great honor to the composer, he (I hope) heard it and said--"now that's the way I wanted it done!" I am so thankful it was videoed so I get to hear it too. The wonder of it all is something else!

  • yes, I heard it.

And- now that's the way I wanted it done !

  • It's a nice rendition. But for me is just too slow.

  • I agree, I am currently working on this in choral and have usually taken it a bit faster. The version recorded by the London Symphony Orchestra is also taken faster.

  • I'm shivering...

    I love Mozart, Coronation Mass...

I love her. She is an angel...

  • Perfection - my ears are in heaven! This is so sublime! Kathleen Battle is indeed one of my favourites for good reason. Not a note out of place - excellent control - a performance for the gods! BRAVO! BRAVO! ENCORE!!!!!

  • eccellente!

  • Wspaniałość wielka.Dzięki stokrotne.

  • Sublime music. Did Mozart write anything medicore? What depth of expression he brings to this liturgical text. The first section is marvellous; the second is almost unbearable in its beauty. What an extraordinary prayer for reconciliation with God & for peace.

  • @bayreuth79

    Absolutely. Amen!

  • her breath control is so amazing....

  • So beautiful it brings tears to my eyes every time i listen to it.

  • A slightly faster tempo would be just fine,.. Anyway its beautiful,..

  • Yes, Karajan was known for his slow tempos. But Battle...one of my favourite sopranos. Lyrical and stunning interpretation.

  • Gorgeous,stunning,divine voice !

Love Kathleen ! Her "Grace" album keeps me speechless, every time I'm listening...
