Mark King is a God! Back in the day, the 80's, we Northern boys all thought he was the best Bass player in the world. Sure you had people like Marcus Miller and Pino Palidino who were funky but no one touched Mark for depth and character... most of the rhythms on Level 42 songs come from the bass, and not from the keyboards or guitar which mostly provide fills. Add to this he could sing (well) and write.... just a fantastic guy! Could even do it flying over the audience as he used to do live.
Sounds like he has the snares off (Is that the correct way to put it? I'm swedish. Just google 'sejarmatta' if your'e unsure what I mean). Sounds reaaally bad.
i agree with eddiegonemo ......... Crowd standing there like they dont know how to Dance or Move ........ i dont get it hahahahahahahahaha ... perhaps they thinking (dare i txt it) a Whaite Man shouldnt play like this hahahaha ... ssssssooooooo rong
how do you mean? mark has always been a incredible bassist. watch their top of the pops version of this from 1981 on youtube n you will see he plays it pretty much the same on bass.
Fantastic song by a fantastic band. I see some poeple here are discusing who is better, King, Flea or Wooten. For me music isnt about who's the best or who is better. It's about what you personally like. "Love Games" is a great song. Level 42 or any band isn't just about one member of the band. The band have got to groove together to make the great sound that they do make.
I think the audience all saw how good that slap bass was, had heart attacks and died. The only thing that seems to make sense to me, otherwise who knows why none of them moved!
@mantaroy777 Ever been to a Level 42 concert lately? The PA sound is so bad that I stopped going to their concerts!!! When you can't hear the bass and the snare drum eats trough your head like big bullets, you feel like going home or become stiff :p
Yeah indeed, I was always wondering how one can play the bass like this and singing at the same time - incredible! Im's still impressed after almost 30 years. Congratulations !!!
This is a great song, no matter how it was achieved. The dude enjoys himself and one can hear that. Whether that´s difficult or not. Everything oneself can not do seems difficult. He might find it easy like walking.
