You are making a whole lot of sense my friend. McVie is a really a unique bassist. He has changes in his line like a guitar. But it still sounds like a bass, and has all of the qualities of a great blues sound. He really almost plays a rythm guitar with his bass, not easy to make that sound right. I can talk about this guy all day, he has impressed me for decades.
John McVie is such an underrated bassist. All the attention went to Stevie, Christine and Lindsay, but John was always there laying down one superb bass line after another. Mic Fleetwood was underated as well. John and Mic were an incredible rhythm section.
@slw59 Here here, well said my friend. I have played bass for 30 years and have always looked at McVie as a major inspiration. He is a fantastic bassist. Really, all of the attention went to Stevie, even Christine didn't quite get the props she deserved.
@1bls im a john mcvie devotee as well. such tasteful playing. one of the best rhythm sections ever, and it all goes back to playing the blues. play the twelve bar changes well, and you can make anything sound sweet.
i love the 70's, i was born in 70 and it was the greatest decade, going camping and going to magic mountain when it was more about family, not a bunch of thugs now,way different.
She is definitely high or drunk, but performing well nonetheless. We need another baby boom! Anyone notice how the pinnacle of music came as the boomers were in their late teens and dropped off when they last of them hit their 30's? With such a large number of young people you are bound to have a large number of talented youth just by statistics alone. That is why there were so many LEGENDS from the era of 60s to the late 80s with most of them in the 70's.
Christine was really in top form here. Over My Head was her first big hit, she would have many that would follow. Strange seeing Lindsey using a pick here, I don't think he ever did it again during a live performance. It makes this performance unique.
I have read that Lindsey always uses a pick to practice. And I also read that during concerts his fingers actually bleed when he doesn't use a pick .Stevie is wonderful as usual.
You kids go pull up some video's of The midnight special and Don Kirshner's rock Concert ,Damn i miss stay up to hear all the best artist and groups, When all our parents were voting in Nixon I had bumper sticker on my old chevy van saying ,,,Wolfman Jack for president .
ick... this is horribly overdubbed. Christine sounds possessed. I have an untampered with version of this performance, unfortunately the quality isn't as good.
I was going to say the same thing. I think Mick pressured him to for certain songs. It certainly looks foreign in his hands but he does a fine job anyhow.
I read in an interview Lindsay Buckingham gave that he used a pick in the studio when he recorded their rhythem parts. I noticed from the credits that was the last song in that episode, maybe he had an issue with his fingers. Strats aren't always the best for finger picking either.
Wow! I have watched a ton of Fleetwood Mac footage and this is the first time I have seen LB play with a pick. Perhaps it's because of the guitar he's playing, I don't know.

I wondered why Lindsey looked to be holding that pick so awkwardly, then I realised it was because he was holding a pick...

@slw59 my thoughts exactly. If you took the bass away, the song would sound flat as hell and not groove like it does.
