can you do a stepping side summy without an object like you do you do the steps but not stepping on an object but normal ground coz i saw a tutorial on it
@MyManchesterunited12 you most certainly can, you can do a side flip out of a round off, pushing off any object, back handspring, cartwheel, step, punch, jump, off your hips, from a bar swing, and off your hands. all that matters is that you get height first, then initiate the ankle drive the direction you want to go, and chase the ankle drive with a tight shape.
i would just like to say thankyou so so so so much for showing in detail the side summy , i do not have the soft equipment to train on there four i have to youse the things around me , i watched this vid in total for about 5 hours watching every movement , this is the best vid to teach you how to do this , i did it on my firest go thankyou so so so much !!
@v2DaRkStOrm the time it takes depends entirely on you. If you know aeriel, webster, or any other one legg take off skills then it might take less time, I originally learned it by doing an aerial and then tucking it to the side. You can also do all the progressions I talked about in the tutorial without a mat, you just need a very trusting friend to roll over their back as they take your weight, I will make a "no mats" tutorial some day, until then good luck
@Urban1stChannel Thank you, I figure why not make a tutorial that actually explains and breaks down the move, the worst thing that could happen is someone might actually learn something from it. Thanks again. there will be more in the future on my Movement Connections channel.

@shittyclothing56 well I am not really training those right now, but i will put that on my list of tutorials for later. After I get done training my front full twists I will go back and start trying to understand corks better, I don't quite know them well enough to teach them in the manner I teach the side flip. I will have a back tuck tutorial out shortly. thank you.
@manu333l Manu, which I assume is short for Manuel but I am probably wrong. Thank you for your comment. I prefer the stepping side flip but when I want maximum height on a flat surface I usually go with the Punching side flip. It is possible to get the same height with both but the stepping version is harder. in my openion
@MURGAPTF awesome man, any chance you could do a tutorial on back summy's or websters? i learned back summys and had them pretty perfect, but i tried one off a bench and spooked myself and now i freak out and bail to the side and cant do them...any ideas?
@GogzoX9000 I can work on a back tuck tutorial sure thing, give me a week. back flips off of stuff are much different then a back tuck on the ground. do me a favor and remind me during the week as I tend to forget this stuff because I get so busy with teaching and training. I'll try to show how to spot a back tuck too that way your friends can help you if you lose your way.
@GogzoX9000 for webster look at ryan doyles tutorial his is as perfect as it gets. I learned a little different but his explination of it really made a difference in my speed and height
oh totally, it's like a webster but you turn one 1/4 in the middle. Usually on flat ground I like to do two foot take off but I have done it just as well with the stepping technique to. Stepping off an object emphasizes the need to really press down with the stepping foot very fast and with full extension. You can do the same on the ground the timing is a little different but so long as you really push and kick that leg you will have a goo start
how come ur side flip is like a tucked double leg.. u lie down on the air... i thought a side flip is wherein ur inverted in the air.. just like a back flip.. but towards the side??
I tried to avoid this but... the actual different from a side for summi and a double leg is based on what is used for rotational speed. I don't have to tuck in to do my side flip but I do to gain speed. in a side flip you tuck in to gain speed in a double leg you use the tork of the shoulders twisting. if you untucked me you would have me inverted in the air my line axis of rotation answers your question. Regardless of the way you actually rotate my main goal is height and landing softly
No matter how many videos of flips i watch (back ,Front SIde ) i watch the more scared I get this is a good tutorial but i have a huge fear of hurting my self mainly falling on my head lol ! HELP i so badly want to be able to do this.
sand is great and so is grass, they were my original teachers. they keep you humble because there is no crash mat to save your but if you fall. in any case keep training it will pay off, don't forget the basics though they will save you a alot of time.
great, thank you for your interest. I will be in London from june 22nd untill july 22nd you may want to get into the classes after I get back. I have someone covering for me while im away so you can if you want to.

nice work. quick question: is it possible to do the step technique on flat ground? (i.e. just stepping forward instead of stepping off of an object)

Very nice tutorial indeed.
I just wish I had a nice gym like that to practice in.
I'm practicing in the wilderness and shit!
Lol
Nah, but my best option is to get to same grass, that's the best I can find around here... :(

Too bad. Me too. I have to practice on the beach, but it isn't quite a picnic. I twisted a knew pretty bad on the landing.
Definitely need something soft.

No, no. Side flip will require and square spotting stand. Landing sideways just isn't as safe as with backflip or frontflip.
First time I tried it I landed poorly twisting right ankle. Just after, I twisted left knee and was hubbling today.
I know how to do frontflip well and backflip. I know height is key and blocking(for frontflip and sideflip). I just need safer environment.
dawson01912 2 years ago
what helps you make it safe and land nicely, sounds good, keep training. and make sure to land with your chest up and light on the feet.
