  • 13-15" MBA w/ Retina Display, please.

  • Comment removed

  • what is your memory and flash storage for the 11.6 inch?

  • If you can't easily move a less than 3 lb computer than there's something up

  • You can have the best of both worlds by linking it up to an external screen and key board and still have the portability of a net book .

  • great review! do you have one for the 2011 MBA?

  • I had a 160gb Ipod classic, and the 11.6 inch macbook air. Both stollen right from in my house while I was gone.... My heavy desktops were still there.

  • Had the 11.6 inch with the core 2 duo, just ordered the 13 inch Core i5 and a new 32gb Ipod touch... cant waite.

  • this is one guys opinion..

  • The screen is so reflective I cannot even look at it on YT, hehehehehehehe

  • Get the 13.3 inch! 11" is shit! Trust me 11" is TINY

  • the 11" is a cute little kitten and the 15" macbook pro is a grown up cat.

  • Hi ^_^ do you know if the 2011 model still has this screen problem on the 13'' macbook air... cuz im thinking of gettin me one in the couple of few days, an right now im very hesitant so i'd be forever so grateful if you'd review the 2011 models.

  • The only real difference between the macbook air 13 inch and macbook pro is flash storage on air an a larger storage capcity of the macbook pro really just buy an external 1T hard drive and yo have the same thing as a mac book pro

  • This screen is to fuckin' small! Don't listen to this guy. Get the 13" instead.

  • Well first thing first, what a exallent video, your right on so many things.I dont own aMac yet,but becouse of your great review i probally will buy one.Now the BIG question, what tech equipment did you use,Damn your video looks like a movie,i need to now what you used, even the mik is kool, and what softwear did you use.Oh by the way you should work for apple, very profeshinal.Im very impressed.

  • @spyk3rX the 2011 MacBook airs can (as they have core i5 and i7)

  • Is the macbook air 13" suitable for storing itunes music? I have a lot of music! I'm a university student and I can't afford two computers.

  • I disagree, my friend has a macbook pro and I have the 13 inch air and it's just as nice, at all angles. The macbook pro is more glassy and reflective. You have to just check it out at the apple store I think. I personally like that the pro has the black boarder around the screen instead of the silver. But the 13 air is unbelievable light and lovely to carry around, it's only .6 pounds heavier which for me was worth the compromise because of its better battery life and larger screen.

  • The only reason I want the 13" is because I really want the amount of storage the hard drive has on the most expensive one, but after watching this, I might just transfer files onto my desktop after I use them on my air.

  • @FluffyMuffina And get the 11"

  • AWESOME review ! This really helped a lot. Thanks :D

  • i agree the 11" is way better than the 13"

  • Awesome review! I was going to get a MBP for my first mac, but after watching your video, I realized that I won't be needing all the power that the Pro is used for. I'm not a photo editor, video editor or gamer. I just need a fast simple laptop that I can use to write papers, watch videos and listen to music on. Thanks!

  • youre stupid im tilting my pc and the light is nt fine this happens on all laptops idiot

  • imagine apple in 20 years computers will be like 15mm thin!

  • @joshmvfx more like in 5 years what apple is doing is tremendous

  • Yepp, I subscribed.

  • Thanks a lot for this very constructive video. I think I'll follow your advice and get an 11", 128GB and 4Gb.

  • lol , what about a 17inch mbp ? i bet you are physically sick whenever you see one xD

  • This is one of the few MacBook Air reviews I've found that doesn't simply repeat the same laptop info I can already find on Apple's website. Thank you.

  • Yes sorry to say - you do repeat yourself but a great comparison.

  • This same problem also existed with the old unibody white macbooks. It annoyed me so much that I sold it too a few weeks later. Shame that the 13 inch air has it also! The 11 inch is great, never noticed the same screen problem with it. Glad you found an air that you like. It's really a great laptop, but I am happy with my 17 inch macbook pro. I just hate small screens haha...

  • I'm using 2TB hard whit MacBook Air 11.6

  • @Ltuminers what is ur ram 2gb or 4gb

  • @Ltuminers external hard drive right?

  • My opinion on the Air: It's a cool toy for people with more money than they need. I do want one, but have to spend my hard earned cash on important stuff.

  • What headphones are those?

  • I completely and honestly believe and trust what you are saying, but I'm just going to go with the 13in because something about smaller sized computers like 11in just kind of bothers me. I would pick 13in over 11in and if they had a 15in I would DEFINITIVELY buy one...I'm more of a bigger screen kind of person. Please don't judge me or anything just because of my opinion... I'm just not the kind of person that likes mini sized laptops... :)

  • @nikahatt I agree with you on the size they should bring out a 15 inch Air as well .

  • What about flash blocker

  • Thanks you helped me to make a decision, I have an older 13 inch macbook that I love but its heavy to lug around and just watching a youtube video engages the loud cooling fan. I worried about the screen size of the 11 inch air and the adjustment that I would have to make from going from a 13 inch screen to 11 inches, but you make the 11 inch sound so cool that I think that is what I'm going to get.

  • Thank you, but plan better your reviews, you repeat a LOT!

not a complaint just a constructive criticism!

    again thanks a lot.

  • I like the way you speak... it's like I'm talking to a friend on whether should I buy the product or no, and not like a "pro reviwer" which they all end up saying the same things and you don't learn anything from them (they just repeat what we know from the keynote or Apple's web site).

  • i would just go with like an older dell laptop or an asus netbook if i am gonna use a laptop for basic use. i love mac and all but 1000 for a netbook and mainly a netbook is just soo much

  • please be aware this video isn't concerning the new i5 & i7 powered MB airs that were released mid 2011!!!

im watching on my mid 2011 13'' air and i got pretty annoyed at his comments about cpu power. I then realised this video was uploaded in dec 2010

    DERP

  • Very interesting. I have a question, how would you feel about using the MacBook Air 11'' as your primary and only computer w/o an external monitor? It would be for Web browsing/Mail/some Office and casual gaming :-) Thank you very much!

  • does anyone know if a mac air could be good enough to execute programs like "unigraphics" or "solid works"??

  • Very well said and fun to watch thanks for the info!!

  • I really love it but the price!:D

  • you are as adorable as the mac!

  • @waugse You're right...

  • @waugse You're right...

  • ok im been sold a macbook air 11" 4GB ram 169 SSD core 2 for €800 good deal or not id + im moving to Canada and will be using it as my main pc for a wile and i did notice some bad looking screens in the 13" thats why im goin for 11" also it comes with apture 3 ,ms office 2011 and ilife what do u think

  • Thanks for the video, as it opens my mind so that I can begin to consider something other then an iPad 2 w/. a mini Mac that was suggested to me yesterday. Dude I might add that you're very very good at this!, once again thanks. Regards, Oscar

  • is it good for youtube and internet use etc.?

  • im thinking of gettin an 11" macbook air for christmas. if i pay half im aloud (:

do u think that for a 12 yr old lad uploadin vids to youtube and making intros using cinema 4d and just general homework for school its a perfect solution??

  • The only thing i deeply respect on your videos dude , is the SOUND . it's very very clear thank's for your videos and reviews you ROCK

  • I want a MacBook for things such as Photography, Blog, Website, Video editing, iTunes, Movies, traveling and home use. What MacBook should I get? Is there more details you need? Thanks.

  • how are you gonna install ur computer if u dont have a disc drive? i mean you know how you get those discs when u buy a computer to install the computer? how do you get past that?!

  • @oreosmarsh Your so stupid. You clearly don't know anything about MacBook Air's. It comes with a ultra mini USB, where you plug into the ports. That is your installing, and rebooting object.

  • @pronoobs3

okay thanks. and yes i dont know anything

  • @pronoobs3 not the new ones.... they have pre installed backup copies of lion

  • @oreosmarsh the new ones have pre installed backup copies of lion in the computer + you could buy the $70 dollar USB version if you dont want to download it...

  • I agree with you about the iPad. I bought one and kept it for around 4 weeks. I just had no use for it. Too big to carry around and completely useless as a computer. Out of the four weeks I had it, it sat by my bed being used as an alarm clock for 3 of them. I put it on eBay and got something useful.

  • Well to be fair apple are sneaky as they don't say the screens are not IPS, they say they are LED back lit only. In all their other equipment they have IPS. So they are sneaky and if your not a computer guy and a newbie, your won't know about TN vs IPS . These screens are TN i believe as other people have described them, I looked at 11" mac air today it was so cute, but shit it's too expensive. IPS uses more power, I hate TN screen, but only high end laptops use IPS anyway to be fair.

  • Ok, you convinced me

  • oh crap! all this time i was under the impression..he was talking about the i5 macbook Air

  • I meant YouTube videos

  • Ok so I just want a laptop that I can check my email read articles and watch tube videos. Maybe even play some games should i get the 11 inch MacBook

  • Ok so I just want a laptop that I can check my email read articles and watch tube videos. Maybe even play some games should i get the 11 inch MacBook

  • Seriously, I've watched this video like 7 times, most people when they do a review just talk about the specs which are stuff you can see easily in the apple website. I really liked that your video is almost purely your opinion, opinion is worth so much more than easy-to-get facts just repeated again. GOOD JOB~ thanks to you I chose the 11 inch and IM SOOO GLADD I DID!!!!!!!!!!!!! THANK YOU !!!

  • That was simply an amazing video dude

  • you go from saying the computer really suck to its really Great??? come on now!

  • but hmm the battery life isn't that a huge factor in deciding which one to buy, there's a whole 2 hour difference and also the SD card slot I think that was a genius idea to put it on the macbooks but I'm just a a little disappointed that it's not on the 11"

  • I'm a student. Should i get, Macbook pro + Macbook air OR Macbook Pro + Mac Mini? I don't know what to do!

  • @patrickli804 why would you get a mac mini if you get a macbook pro? Get just the Macbook Pro and use an external display.

  • @Codename1000 so i have one laptop one desktop? But instead of having a mac mini as my desktop i could have my macbook pro as my (desktop replacement) and have my macbook air as a travelling laptop instead? I don't know what to do! AND should i just get macbook pro + ipad 2?

  • @patrickli804 I'll get a mb air (13"). It's slim like the iPad, A mac mini is useless, being as powerful as a macbook.

  • @patrickli804 get them all and dance while unboxing them

  • Thanks for the review. I totally agree with your views about the 11" air. Much more portable.

  • hi, i own a13'' macbook pro and i share it with my wife...so i decide to buy a computer for me only and im really crazy about this 11'' macbook air.... my question is should i choose the 11 inch air or another macbook pro....or who knows an ipad...im only uses it for browsing , fb , youtube etc. i need some advices to make the right choice...thankss

  • @romanosky12 Stop right there. If you like this macbook air, DO NOT BUY IT. Apple are planning to refresh their macbook air line within the next few weeks. We are expecting intel i5 processor, thunderbolt and perhaps 128GB SSD and 4GB RAM as standard. To summerise; wait a couple of weeks and keep tabs on the apple website - a new Macbook air is due shortly.

  • @romanosky12 you cant imagine how much i apreciate your advice .... thanks..hope i dont have to wait so long

  • 90gb itunes libary?!

  • nice videos, keep it up!

  • Thnks for the review, i'm getting the new 2011 model coming out soon with the sandy-bridge processors and thunderbolt technology!! :-)

  • @muslim4life110 Haha same dude

  • @muslim4life110 time left for this.???? not even a clue?

  • i cant see the screen lol.

  • hi Eriklanigan, nice review on the comparison. got a question here: I use a windows laptop for the more complicated task, e.g image & video editing, sometime i need to transfer files (notes in class) between the air and my laptop, but i think neither my laptop nor air has the ability to access a common file system on a storage device. how do u deal with it?

  • I'm using an 11 inch Macbook Air at Best Buy. Its figgin' awsome think im gonna get the 126gb '11 for my portable instead of an Ipad

  • Wow, I am really happy I came upon these videos. Your 13" Macbook Air screen video. I'm sure to get the 11.6" now! Thanks! :)

  • well for what it lacks in cpu power, it makes up for tremendously with its solid state chips. itunes always takes a while to start up on my imac but on the air its almost instant. oh and by the way, just because a processors clock speed is higher than an others, doesnt necessarily mean its faster. every processor is different. some newer may have lower clock speeds but may be more efficient at its processes than older processors at higher.

  • do you think that this is the right computer if you are just going to use Microsoft Office 2011 for school assignments?

  • i don't think there is so muck difference in the size and weight but you know better...nice review and realy helpful ;)

  • Awesome review but OMG 90Gb Music Library!!! =)

  • awesome review! just wanted to say thanks for using a good quality mic... it makes a world of a difference for me :D

  • one question does the 11" have the cd thing that accepts cds or it doesnt and the 13" does

  • thanks man!

  • just stop saying the 13" is bad ! even my grandma she feels that you are lying !

  • If you suspect this is not a strong argument, i suggest everyone go to apple store and check it out for themselves. To me the 13 is worth it over the 11.

  • Is the difference in size that noticeable ?

  • a really good screen with the WORST viewing angles of all latest apple products.

they got away with this because we were all spell-bound by the sexyness and

ultraportability of the new airs. love is blind. it is a compromise a lot are willing to take.

the new airs know that color editors are way out of their league.

maybe there is a reason for the "air" or "pro" monikers.

i am waiting for the future of macbook pros with the sexyness of the new airs and hope & pray for a lot more portability.

  • impostor!!! dude are you me?

eriklanigan you stole my brain. every word and thoughts in this video and the 'other' one resonates deeply - down to every little emotion and passion with which you convey them. you were reading my stolen brain out loud on the teleprompter, weren't you?

  • And i suppose that the 11 inch can blend and the 13 inch can't.

  • Awesome... What microphone is that? It's beautiful!

  • so im ill be a freshman in college. My plan is to use my current Mac Mini as an external hard drive and store all of my info on it (movies itunes application etc.) Is it possible to 1. Use my mac mini as an external hard drive and transfer info from the Air to the Mini and 2. Is it possible to use the Air as a display for my mini if i were for example wanting to watch a movie stored on the mini?

  • @zacamagz Yes. You would simply enable file sharing on the Mini. Then you could mount the Mini's disks (including external USB disks) on your Air via WiFi or ethernet using Finder. If the Mini supports 802.11n, get a fast new wireless N router like the Linksys E4200 to get around 50-100 Mb/s throughput. The Air's USB ethernet dongle maxes out at 10 Mb/s, which is unusable for large file transfers or for streaming 1080p video.

  • @eriklanigan holy crap you replied fast. haha. thanks a ton!!! this helped me decided to no go with the 13 inch to as well and when you gave the whole "college" part it just sounded sounded perfect. haha. thanks again!!!

  • @zacamagz can i ask something to you, ur a mac mini user so this is my question is the mac mini "the cpu in pc?"

  • "its its its.... it's adorable"

    BINGO!

  • Just wondering if the 11 inch would be something I could do a lot of word processing on. Do you think it'd be good for writing essays, etc, or is it really not cut out for anything intensive, even typing?

  • @atmospherepro

He says it's slow, but 1.4 GHz using flash storage is actually faster (by a good margin) than 2.13 GHz using HDD. If you upgrade the 11.6 inch to 1.6 GHz, even better!

  • @DUY1337GUITAR "Speed" is not a blanket term. For hard drive-intensive tasks like launching applications, an SSD is faster than any hard disk. But for CPU-intensive tasks like video encoding, ANY of the new MacBook Pros will be **many times** faster than the current Airs. The Air's CPU tech is 4 years older: Core 2 Duo versus Sandy Bridge Core i5 or i7.

  • @eriklanigan i am a YouTube uploader, and i make videos, not every video i make is HD, and i wanna buy 11.6" MBA configured "1.6 C2D, 4GB RAM, 128 SSD" should i buy it?

(i use right now a Dell XPS M1330 C2D 2.0 4GB RAM 320 HDD and i hate the problem that it's somewhat slow because of the HDD)

  • i thought macbook air comes with flash storage, not ssd.. do you have to upgrade to ssd or something?

  • @musajohari SSD is flash storage

  • @11FSE11 owh.. okay thanks

  • An issue I'm having between choosing between the 11" or 13" model is the sd card slot. SSDs will fail, so having a SD card as a 'scratch' disk would be nice in preserving the SSD. For 50 dollars you have the ability to add 32gbs (won't be blazing-fast like the SSD), but it'll be perfect for music, movies, etc.

Good work Erik, if I ever make up my mind up, i'll be streaming tech talk back on an air soon.

  • I'm thinking about getting the 11" Macbook Air because I need something to edit my vlogs that I upload to YouTube regularly. When I edit them, all I really do is add background music, shorten/cut footage, and add some sound effects (sometimes). I've been using my iPhone 4 for my vlogs and editing on the iMovie app, but it really does lag when the video gets long.

So I'm hoping that this machine would be good for very simple video editing. And I'm going to get an external HD to store them on!

  • all i need is to process Videos on imovie and and cut music and share to itunes in garageband i need a small portable device With a long battery life 11 or 13 i used a 13 And i love it but after you said the imovie and gargeband take all of the power out of it i think i will get a 13 but which should i get? ASAP please

  • 00:47 - MacBook Air Vs MacBook Pro

IF YOU WANT TO RUN PRO PROGRAMS, BUY PRO

IF YOU WANT A VERY PORTABLE COMPUTER, BUY AIR

  • Do u think the 11 inch air is good for a high school student?

  • Thanks so much for this review. I am a writer and need a small portable machine for research and writing. I was leaning towards the 13 inch with the bigger screen and larger memory. But now will buy the 11. I always write with a backup drive, a good screen for reading is important as is a serviceable keyboard. Machine power and storage is most often a marketing tool used by computer manufacturers. If you really need it, well good for you. If you don't? why pay for it!!

  • When you said it was slow you lost me. These machines are not slow.

  • hmm, i dont understand why he doesn't like the 13 inch, it's not like it's that bad ( resolution wise ) compared to the 11 inch, it's like like your eye can notice the difference, and yeah, the 13 inch offer 256gb, and better processor for strategy games to run better ( example: Shogun2, SC2 )

  • You can get a portable 500GB hard drive for like $60 that should be enough for music and movies.

  • If you don't like the 13", can I have it?

  • But will it blend?

  • My MacBook Pro is better =D

  • why not delete all the system files and install gentoo?

  • my itunes is 380GB :( ur lucky that its 90GB XD

Anyway thanks for the nice video. You have convinced me to buy the 11" 1.6Ghz 4GB of ram 128GB ssd MBA... Yea and i have a mac pro 2008 8core so i think that the MBA would be perfect for bringing places and then i have my mac pro for heavy computing and gaming. Thanks Great video!

  • Yo i have a question, Im thinking of buying the 11" Air or the 15" Pro. I've heard a lot of complaints of the fan noise of the pro, and how it gets hot when there is no hardcore GPU work going on. I still have my '07 white macbook for home use with a display.... How does the Macbook air work with video editing, just wondering because i have occasionally video projects? And what do you think i should get the high end 15" Pro or high end 11" Air? I usually use my Mac for net/media/office use.

  • I'm getting an 11" Air, after this review of yours! My problem though is, as "cute" as it is, and as easy to carry and throw around it is with one hand and all, it's just as easy it is for some ill-meaning people to get attracted to it and take it away. My heart will get crushed. I guess that means just a little extra precaution for all of us. But then again, I guess that's the same problem with smartphones and tablets (e.g. iPhones and iPads) and whatever else.

  • I can't agree more with you, it's the CUTEST Macintosh HAHA!

  • Definitely a great review. Very in depth, extremely useful.

  • You must be rich..

  • i prefer the 11inch the macbook air is about portability therefore that's why id go for the 11inch im gonna wait till updates now hopefully it will bring back lit keyboard and sandy-bridge processor

  • I love your reviews! Just ordered the 1.6 model with overnight shipping. I went from the 27" iMac (returned) to the new 15" MBP (returned) but for my needs, I believe the 11" is the best bet for me. Plus getting it refurbished for 1219 shipped doesn't hurt compared to the 1399 price tag before taxes new.

Is the slow processor the only reason you don't recommend using it as a primary? I'm coming from an 06 MBP with 1.86 C2D who's logic board died.

  • Hey dude thanks a lot for your review on the MBA 11", because of the "angle view" issue you stated on the 13" steered me away from it and I have conformably chosen to get the 11" MBA!!

  • what a GREAT review!!!

i am still going for the 13 inch tho i need a bigger screen and better battery

    thank you so much

  • Yeah, you do not understand processor specs. Cache with the processor is the key thing. The MacBook Air 13in has a processor with 6mb of cache. The MacBook pro's from two years ago have 3mb on chip cache. The higher ends have 6mb. Which is not a noticeable difference at all. Adding in the SSD, i am pretty sure the MacBook Air is way faster then most Macs from 2 years ago.

  • Fantastic review. I'm a college student who is currently using an '07 white MacBook. I've had to replace the hard drive, it's starting to get extremely slow, and I get about an hour of battery life. I'm considering buying and iMac for home use and an 11" Air to take back and forth from school for writing papers and note-taking. Do you think that's a good idea? Thanks!

  • @Bang0r Yes, I think that's the perfect scenario.

  • "Its fantastic for reading and writing"

Wow... great review man... So the macbook air is as good as a pencil and a magazine... for over a grand.

  • HEy man. First of all, keep it up ^^ Second, is this suitable for garageband? and is the keyboard, backlit?

  • I can live with this machine as a primary laptop! lol

  • im definitely getting this tomorrow, i was thinking about going with a mac book pro but i don't need something that much

  • This person is 100% correct about the screen issues when working with image based media. It's a known 'problem' in the graphics/photo world. I'm picking up an 11" MBA to use as a satellite computer to my 17" MBP. I used to have a desktop Mac Pro with Eizo monitor but the brand new 17" MBPs with the matte screen can now be a substitute. Like he said, if you have another work station for the 'real' stuff, then get the 11" MBA. With an external SSD or HDD drive, you can still prep files, too.

  • Macbook Air 11" or 13" with external monitor and hard drive will fix all the problems this guy has.

  • This is a great review. This is the straight up shit you need to hear. I still want one though. Maybe a 11 inch to complement my 15 inch MBP

  • If you wanna hold it in air well in bed buy a fecking ipad thats what there for. If you want something light weight for photography or other stuff and if you travel much buy 11inch or if you want home latop to go on desk get 13". You cant get more than 128gb on 11" so if u got loads of files to take around, plus music and images or even games, then get 13" plus u get extra 2 hours battery life. If hes finding the 13" heavy get down gym its light as hell

  • so why do you not recommend to use a macbook air as my main computer?

  • @Erik Good comment on going with 64GB HD vs 128GB on TTB yesterday. Did you go with the base processor and 2GB RAM? What is your recommendation?

  • Which one should I get for video editting?

  • To be fair this is probably the best review I have seen of the MacBook Air. I was only really browsing videos at first and stumbled across this one. I'm waiting around for the next iMac so if you do anything on that then I will be going with your recommendation. Thanks for the great video!

  • I might not have the professional background as you have. But I did own the 11 inch MacBook Air and I currently own the 13 inch. From every day usage (including photoshop and iMovie) I can't agree that there would not be a sweet spot or bad viewing angles. The screen definitely is better than on the MacBook Pro's in my opinion. (Or at least the 13 inch Pro since I have this one for comparison)

  • Would you recommend this for a Computer Science major?

  • I subbed after watching this Im going for a macbook air 11 inch base model I think as itunes doesnt really bother me ill proberly just get a extrnal 2.5 for media

  • Whoa so the 11" is a higher pixel density than the 13"?

  • 100-150 songs is only about 10 albums. Is that really all you have? At MP3 or AAC quality, they will fit easily. Essays and school notes use virtually no space. Streaming video would be fine, but storing lots of TV/movie purchases from iTunes (for instance) would require an extern
