Looks good! Too lazy, too easy. I like. Needs garlic and bacon. Then I like even better.
The total sodium only counts if you eat the whole thing yourself in one sitting. And even then, you can dilute the sodium by drinking a few beers with it.
Can't get much simpler than this recipe. Thanks girls....I guess it's something to make infrequently due to the high sodium content. Was that a chuck roast you used? They don't do that cut of beef over here in the UK so I'd have to substitute with another cut of beef. Yum, yum :)
This used to be an old standard of mine. I convinced myself that most of the sodium drained off into the drippings so as long as I didn't make gravy, it wasn't so bad.
This looks good! My husband doesn't like onion though. I just made pot roast yesterday. I dump a bag of baby carrots in the bottom of a dutch oven and throw the frozen beef on top sprinkle with a little bit of salt. One can of beef broth then enough water to cover or almost cover the roast. I cook it for about 5 hours then throw some potatoes in and cook for another 30 mins. I thicken the broth with corn starch for the gravy.
I love a beef pot roast! I'll have to try it this way.. I usually just stuff mine with slivered garlic and then pour aus jour gravy mix over it, mixed with the 3 cups of water and then pour a little white vinegar over the roast.. I put a whole onion in there too and sometimes some peeled and quartered potatoes and sometimes carrots too. Smells so good while roasting! My grandmother says the vinegar makes the meat tender! It always is!! LOL
omggg i remember my mom and dad making this for us when we were kids :) with a side of mashed potatoes. the onion soup mix and the soup makes a gravy.. mmmmmmm.. makes me think of the crock pot ..pork and saurkraut also mashed potatoes with it
@Gardeninggirl1107 I made fluffy potatoes.. I looked up something, trying to get the results of a Wendy's potato and it was not close, but it was okay. I filmed it and am debating airing it... Also had a veggie. I don't like a whole lot so I think it was corn or a salad..
Now that was really easy. I guess they don't make a low sodium onion soup mix, thought that they had a cream of mushroom that's low in salt though. This roast would be delicious with mashed potatoes on the side, talk about comfort food :)
Now if you really want it to give you a heart attack, use melted butter instead of the water in the soup! LOL, just kidding. I used to do an even lazier one - just put half a clove of garlic in each of several holes I poked in it and bake till done. We eat beef rare so that didn't take long. I have to say though that onions and mushrooms are always an excellent combination!
Dang that looks yummy!! James does not like Beef Roast! I know!! Impossible? Nope he don't likey! But I may slip this in on him and just cut a few pieces and see if he can tell. I be sneaky! hahaha. Hugs!
you think its good like that you should try it with golden mushroom soup and a beef mushroom & onion soup mix . it is sooo good , i serve it with Cream potatoes and pea's and carrots and dinner rolls .
@roxiexd They are comparable. But like this, we have the local dishes only occasionally as well. Example: the sweet sour spareribs I just made and reshot the video of, the last time I made that dish was about a year or more ago.. They are good but they are bad for our hypertensive family. The fried rice we probably had 4-6 months ago. I wish we could have it once a month though ;)
I make this same thing. I ONLY use dried onion flakes, and the healthy request soup. I NEVER use the onion soup in mine. WAY too salty with both. Nothing should need that much salt. I know how amazing it is with our lower salt recipe, so you can try that too :)
Never read the sodium content on the soup before. Surely there is a gravy mix or something similar that would have less sodium. When I make vegetable soup I use a packet of au jus gravy mix so now o need to rethink that as well
Dang, That looks good. But you`r right, Its a lot of sodium. I wonder if it would be as good with just dehydrated onions and the soup ? Probably not.......

@Perroquet51 You're right--I don't know how much of it cooks into the food. We didn't make a gravy... I only like gravy at Thanksgiving.

My mom taught me a trick years ago...if a dish is too salty, add a potato to the dish to absorb the salt. You don't eat the potato but it works.
