people saying this match is just only chop after chop, but they got to understand, in order to make a good match or a great match, every move u pull or punch chops or kick, theres got to have a reason to behind that. The reason way people get so hype up for Kobashi's chops its because thats his signature, his chops meant to be brutal and hurt. Every chops there are fire and passion behind it. And everytime he does it, the timing is right.
I try not to watch this match often. Ever since I bought the DVD way back when it first came out, I've only seen this match in its entirety four times. And every time I do, muhfuckin' tears come to my eyes out of excitement. It's hard to explain. That match was truly one of the best matches that I'VE seen. The emotion from the fans, from Samoe Joe & Kenta Kobashi, the atmosphere as a whole. THAT'S pro wrestling. This match got me into ROH. Fuckin' amazin'.
WOW...the ROH haters actually dare to dislike a video containing KENTA KOBASHI, one of the greatest wrestling legends in the entire world?
It shows that they know nothing about professional wrestling. Zero. None. To disrespect someone like Kobashi means that those idiots have no idea what that man has done in AJPW or NOAH.
Return to your pens, WWE sheep. Don't mess with things you do not understand.
If I ever found myself in a wrestling ring facing Kenta Kobashi I imagine a wave of raw terror would wash over me as I collapsed into the fetal position crying.
@hynwa97 The DVD is called "Joe vs Kobashi" it's out of print now so your best bet is to sign up to ROH.com were you can watch all the out of print DVD's in their archive.
@hynwa97 as StephenAlexWalker already said, the DVD is "ROH Joe vs Kobashi". You could try looking on ebay for it. Sometimes it pops up there. I myself got it on ebay a few years back.
@Wurzelknecht I read about it for such a long time and when I finally watched it, it was just such a let down. All I remember was that it was just chop after chop after chop and it seemed like they were to show the crowd how tough they were opposed to putting on much of a match... just my opinion, and I'm sure it's not of the consensus. I don't know... maybe the match just got over hyped to me. No offense to either wrestler... it just didn't interest me.
@mistyflips Well maybe. Puro style is not everyone's taste after all. And you'll have to be a bit familiar with Kobashi's history to appreciate some little things they did in this match like Joe using attacks of old Kobashi opponents. The chops were sure to come since both men are famous for their stiff chops and how much they can take. Of course it was about who's tougher. That was basically the matchstory. But there also were many awesome wrestling sequences in it and the crowd was insane.
@mistyflips As I said if you're into Puro style the match WAS awesome beyond believe . One if not THE greatest japanese Legend and Samoa Joe beating the shit out of each other and going full steam ahead for at least 20minutes. Matchstory was also neat with Joe trying to prove he can hang with Kobashi, gets beaten down but keeps coming back for more, busting out Misawa- and Kawada Moves and the most beautiful submission sequence he ever did but in the end being no match for Kobashi's power.
@bruceky13 I think ROH would be better in many respects. TNA used to be so awesome, but they've definitely teetered away from that trying to be more like "sports entertainment." Don't get me wrong, I was a huge TNA fan in their early days, and I'm still a huge fan of most of a ton of their talent, I just think they get misused far too often and it saddens me haha. Also, Sting holding a world title in 2011 is just...weird.
ROH v TNA invasion, though, could be a very interesting angle.
@ChaostheClown i agree with u except for sting. i usualy hate older guys hogging the main event, but he can still preform. his matches are still better than mmost of wwe's roster and his promos are still some of the best.
@bruceky13 ROH doesn't really wanna work with TNA these days. They fucked em over in the past.
My hope is that TNA dies and all the great talent from there can end up on ROH since they'll be on TV in september, and then we'll have a true alternative to the monopoly that has become the WWE. and it'll be awesome. I really wanna see ROH rise to extraordinary heights. They've always provided me with awesome wrestling, the likes of which you rarely see [if ever] between the top 2 promotions.
@xsKiitz dude, ROH has had some spectacular crowds. but it's no surprise, they run shows in a lot of the same places ECW used to. in fact, their whole creation is directly linked to ECW in that RF Video needed a new top-of-the-line indy promotion to sell tapes and DVDs of after ECW went bankrupt, so they just funded ROH themselves and voila. It's taken off huge since then.
its such a shame that so many wrestling (well wwe) fans dont even realise what real wrestling is! Its not sports entertainment....its a entertaining sport!
You can download and watch this match at filetube.com.
I've noticed that nowadays, Puroresu wrestlers, when they travel to the United States, would almost always pick ROH as their promotion choice to wrestle in.
When's the last time a NOAH star went to WWE? Forever, I think.
Samoa Joe was involved in all 3 matches in the United States that were given a 5-Star rating since WWE's last one in 1997. He truly is a man to be respected, and TNA does not give him that.
@KenFan4life Because, they inevitably will drop the ball with all there talent, because they plan nothing. they hire old, washed up talent from WWE mainly now, and they turn home grown talent into clones of characters from the 90's. They hire guys who got big else where, run them untill they fuck up there face persona, turn them heel, they drop the ball on that, then they switch again. I think Vince Russo has a mental disorder.
Ppl expect too much out of wrestling these days its about putting on a show....And Koboshi gets old like the rest of us maybe if Misawa finished his career doing matches like this he'd still be alive. This i one of the greatest matches in ROH history cause how well it was worked. And how electric the whole thing was. Don't expect so much and maybe this wouldn't be such a let down
Hardest hitting match ever. 5 stars. The crowd was so electric that night. The atmosphere took this over the top. Easily the greatest moment in ROH history.
@EdmondSwitch Yes a great match. Now onto Edmond Switch The Marky Bitch: Why dont you give me a few examples on how you say I lie. And better yet, if you are really a man, why not confront me verbally in front of the entire listening and viewing audience. You wont because youre an internet pussy.
