  • I think Tyrone cracked his leg on an earlier play, if you can find the game.

Tyrone is the type of player that plays over his abilities, gives 110%, and was prone to the catastrophic injury.

When he made his ESPY catch, the announcer after admitting it was the best catch he had seen in 17 years of college and NFL, was surprised that he didn't break his neck. That was how Tyrone played and blaming the coach would not have prevented this type of injury down the road.

  • No he didn't unfortunately

  • did he ever make it to the nfl

  • poor guy woulda been something special if it wasnt for his injury

  • I love watching this video...I think I've watched it 50 times already.

  • Whenever a guy that small lays a hit like that, you know he's NFL caliber.

  • The block is really what impresses me.

  • The block is really what impresses me.

  • @bentleyizbeast they have a gatorade on ebay called t-bow tears cuz when he cried lol

  • best player to suit up for the Tide ever!!! His injury conjures up the Bo Jackson career ending injury leaving you to wonder what could have been...

  • TYRONE PROTHRO WAS GOING TO BE DRAFTED BY THE NFL AND HAVE A LONG SUCESSFUL CAREER AS A SLOT RECEIVER AND KICK RETURNER HE WAS A PLAYMAKER IT'S A SHAME HE COULD'NT COME BACK FROM THAT INJURY.

  • @ATLVET haha imagine him and percy on the same team wow just amazes me to think about it....i really wish that alabama coach took him out of the game cuz they were up huge....

  • @SKOLLVIKINGS28 wow I didn't know the score of the game in which he got injured. I didn't know what happened to him until I saw Real Sports HBO Wednesday night. Now he is a bank teller down the street from the stadium? And has to deal with a bad leg for the rest of his life? College Football really is a sausage factory. You love the end product but you hate to see how it is made.

  • such a shame

  • Gosh he was amazing,

if he wouldn't have broken his ankle he would have definitely gone to the NFL

  • Horrible injury, and it was one that could've been saved if our coach had known what to do when he was ahead in a game like this. He was one of our best wide receivers we've ever had, even in the short time he played for us. I'll never forget the catch he had against Southern Miss, it was the best catch I've ever seen and will likely remain that way. Nobody but Prothro could've done that.

  • This is just a sad story. I couldn't wait to watch Sportscenter, just to see what he did. I watched him handle my Gamecocks, single-handedly. I'll talk about him til the day I die.

  • would of been the WR in the NFL

  • One of my favorit receivers ever.

  • Wes Welker= Tyrone Prothro

  • PROTHRO!!! too bad he fricken SNapped his leg in half...

  • 4 years later, this bonehead decision still makes me furious. What idiot coach not only leaves his starters in the game late in the 4th quarter of a 31-3 game when you have one of the most dominant defenses of this decade, and have the stupidity to go for it on 4th and 5 with a long pass play? Tyrone Prothro would have been a star in the NFL, but Shula took that away from him. Besides, Alabama probably would have went undefeated that season and who knows maybe won a national title.

  • well actually it was a dumb decision on shulas part but he didnt intend for tyrone to snap his leg. He cant help wat happened. God jus had other plans for tyrone but i can see exactly why u would be angry.

  • Still though, he still represents the pinnacle of the Alabama Crimson Tide football tradition. His charisma and will to play ball will always be remembered. He was and still is my all-time favorite player...

  • i second this RTR

  • i think its kinda sad tht he could be making millions doing wat he luvs the most but he cant

  • I met him one time at my dad's friends house. He was signing footballs and selling them kind of as a benefit after he lost his scholarship. He's only like 5'10. He was saying when he caught that ball behind the guys head he couldn't see the ball, he just held his hands out and caught it. He was a really good receiver and really cool guy.

  • Prothro is a coach for the Birmingham Wildfire (semi pro) He will never play again but will be a BAMA legend forever. He will always have a job because people in Alabama will pay $10 to stand in line for three hours just to shake his hand. He had more sheer will and heart in that 5'6" frame than any player I've saw........PERIOD! ROLL TIDE ROLL!!

  • ik his like left ankle bent like completely to the right i think and the shin bone musta broke and i no this says tribute but is it possible for him to come back after an injury like that?

  • It's possible. He still has 2 years eligibilty at Alabama. So if he comes back he could play for alabama for 2 more seasons! Roll Tide!

  • rly ? imean its been 4 years since that happened and idk if he can get better from that

  • I think if he works hard he can get it. I'm a Julio Jones fan too! Roll Tide!

  • yea he may still have eligibility but hes done he suffered like a staph infection n his leg after he broke it

  • idk if u been to tuscaloosa lately but he is fat now. seen em at the game. tyrones got a gut

  • He might could get back in shape though. Poor guy.

  • When you snap your tibia and fibula, you don't come back.

  • he is my favorite player

  • It was a career ending injury for Prothro, but he has a good future ahead of him. He recently graduated from the U of A and wants to some day get into coaching.

  • T1berwolve he is done

  • One of my all-time favorite players. I hate it that Mike Schula didn't have a brain during the Florida game that finished tyrone's promising career. I got to meet Tyrone last year during a signing, He was a joy to talk to.

  • what a player

  • and there was a flag on that play too. on him and they called it

  • WDC73 he will never play again

  • is there no chance for him? =(

  • IS HE IN THE NFL TODAY?

  • It is so sad how he broke his leg. He had more potential then anybody.

  • wow imagine how much of a legend tyrone coulve been if he never had gotten injured. ppl would prolly say, chad who? terrell who? he couldve been the best

  • LSU has 3

    o yea

  • Gee, i can't remember who was their coach at the time...hmm? Nick Saban, Alabama's coach right now

  • how many titles have you won anywhere? NONE.

  • @MRDx37 id like to see you try to run past 11 people that weigh 250 pounds and catch a ball behind someones head anyways just keep your mouth shut unless you have something nice to say so you wont have to worry about someone talking down upon your home team

  • @MRDx37 and what about you? do people remember your name? did you play football at alabama? no, because you"re a loser who sits on the internet all day. People don't care about a title as much as they care about the person himself.

  • the University of Florida has 2 National Titles

  • he was good but now bama has julio jones...

    GO FOLEY LIONS!!!

  • I was at the game in which he was hurt

  • prothro was new and already became biggest superstar to bama fans because he was unbelievable talented player.. he has speed and long arm with big hands make himself as perfect WR.. he has helped alabama a lot and made bama a national champion team until his injury took national champion away from alabama.. he deserves $500,000 from alabama fans who donated to help him out.. i feel bad for him bec NFL watched him but shula ruined it bec he made gators mad and wanted to fuck prothro up,it worked.

  • what the hell are you talking about? that was prothro's first year. and he could have went to the nfl withought coach permission. he wanted to stay true to bama. then go to nfl, he landed bad. it wasn't brodie's fault. he jumped sideways. thats a bad way to jump to catch a ball, because you come down sideways. and your ankles arent made for going sideways

  • no, what the fuck are you talking about? i dont understand what the fuck your point is because i was talking about how talented he is and he will be one of NFL's most valued players then you talked non sense shit like i care about NFL than alabama.. i know he is loyal to alabama and you need to shut the fuck up!! you need to stop sniff glue or something shit that is frying your brain..

  • you are the dumbest mother fucker i have ever seen.

i'm surprised your parents can afford the internet.

  • yeah, he is dumbass

  • ChompTrax wears jorts and his father also happens to be his uncle at the same time!

  • i'm rubber, you're glue. bounces off of me because i'm white, and sticks to you because you're a jew. shut the fuck up san fran faggot!

  • I am actualy a UT fan but i give this guy aton of respect. my second favorite team is bama

  • Im not a bama fan, but this guy played with a lot of intensity and was Bama's biggest weapon during that year. He showed no signs of pain when he got hurt, he took it like a warrior and i got mad respect for that.

  • Dude was a beast. He def. would have been NFL..

  • gators QUEER auburn GAY QUEER FAGS bama OWNS ALL FAGS

    ROLL TIDE!!!!

  • Thats funny. A Gator fan who calls a player "a skinny nigger" is calling someone else trailer trash. Thats hilarious! What's next? You talkin trash at someone for wearing jorts?

  • Funny, you've lost two straight to em.

  • Ok when Florida won there "national champ" they were versing Ohio State (aka an over rated team that has never won against any SEC team) so thats not saying much. and we still have a winning record over u racist assholes and yall just got jealous that we had the world's greatest player on our team and yall had hit him with a cheap shot. ROLL TIDE!!!!!!

  • a cheap shot, don't be an idiot. It was a freak injury.

  • listen here you worthless pile of crap your just mad because bama DESTROYED the gators that year!next time keep your racist stupidity to yourself prothro was one of the best receivers ever, and oh yeah is bama the same trailer trash that beat you 31 to 3? if so what does that make florida?

  • And that skinner nigger and his team whooped your white honkey's team 31 to 3. FUCK THE GATORS!!! ROLL TIDE!!!

  • actually it's 6.. and it happens to be in the six worst years in the history of our football program.. not to mention we were on probation for the majority of thos years..

  • You're a smart one aren't you?? HAHA We know who has more of that crystal don't we?? It seems to me that we have about 10 more than you do...

  • yeah but he will be remembered for making the Florida gators his bitch

  • go gators????? seriuosly?? do you remember the score of the alabama florida game that year??? Hm.. i seem to recall it was maybe 31 to 3???? yea.. that's right.. RTR

  • Yeah but his story+famous catch is probably more well known than the whole gators association. I take that back, The Gators are known everywhere as the biggest bitch ass pussy team in the nation. BAMA babyyyyyyyy!!!

  • so sad. he would've been one hell of a pro.

    T.P.4.

  • SURE WOULD HAVE

  • Dumbass Mike Shula.

  • great video. thanks for posting it. he is awesome.

  • One of the most memorable catches ever. What's happened to him since his injury?

  • he got hired at bama doing somethin with recruiting no sure

  • he is no longer able to play football and was put on a medical scholarship.

  • he is a god if he recovers he will live forever

  • In 05' we prob woulda finished off much stronger he brought a lot to the field but o well lets jus look forward to Juilio

  • i say that #4 should be retired permanently... no matter how good the up and coming receiver may be, give that honor to prothro

  • We reserve #12 for our best and most promising QBs, its almost semi-reserved. Lets do the same for #4, only to the most promising and talented WRs get it. For starters, Give it to Julio Jones in Honor of Prothro.

By the way, this was injury was crime against all of Football, he would have served well in the NFL and maybe even been enshrined in Canton.

  • I hope this video is never taken down. This guy represents heart and determination.

  • awsome player but dumb coach y was he in, the game is done. well he has an education get a job keep rollin

  • you are so right mike shulu was the biggest piece of crap of a coach the NCAA has ever had

  • at :46 - :49 is a great block

  • Yes, that was one excellent block.

  • Very disappointing to see that he's never going to play ball again. If you look on the replay where he gets injured, you can see the defender pulling him down in while he is up in middair.

  • if tyrone wouldnt have gotton hurt alabama would have went all the way in 05 cause he was the go to guy.......ROLL TIDE now we got:::::::JULIO JONES

  • i think the coach owes him millions up huge in the 4th and breaks his leg on a hail mary play? wtf

  • He had everything going for him at alabama...then the injury happened. Imagine what a bigger impact he could've had in the football industry after college. #4 forever

  • great catches

  • I will never forget Prothro.

I have always been an Alabama fan, but I didn't start watching all the games until I saw Prothro back in '05. He was the best! Roll Tide!

  • unlucky tyrone prothro its always sad when a young guy has 2 end his career before he's reached his full potential im sure if he went into da nfl he would've torn it up dis comin from an english man. i had 2 end my career at arsenal because of injury so i know how your feelin jus keep your head up and everythin will b alright inshallah

  • where is he now

  • he hurt...hell never play football again because of his injury

  • yea...his career is over

  • We've got you in our hearts and on our sleeves, Pro!

  • three words says it all!... rrrroooooolllllll ttttiiiiiddddeeeee baby!!!!!!!! get well soon tyrone, my hero

  • This guy was one of the most intense players to ever play at Alabama. If he had the chance, he would have broken all kinds of records. I saw him play at Heflin and he is unreal.

  • LOOK OUT ITS SUPER THRO!!!

  • good ball player.

    Why was he in?

Shula is a dumbass for keeping him in i feel bad for the kid.

  • Way to go Mike Shula. You ruined the kids career, ruined the rest of the season, and lost your job on a 4th down and 3 in the fourth quarter up 31-3. I feel so bad for Prothro. This coming from a Gator fan

  • Although it did suck for him, it wasnt exactly shula's fault

  • I HAVE TO GIVE IT 2 U GATOR. THATS SO SAD

  • alabama could have been undefeated if it wasn't shula who put all risk on prothro just to slaughter florida and now, prothro is gone from pissed gators defensive.. it's all on shula!!

  • Prothro is the greatest football player ever! Prothro, we will remember thee.

  • terrible injury. i don't even know how shula sleeps at night.

you kick the field goal there. plain and simple.

i still contest to this day, that if prothro doesn't get hurt that alabama would have gone undefeated that year. their defense was unbelievable and after prothro went down their offense turned to complete shit.

i'm a gator fan and i get sick to my stomach when i watch that play, because it never should've happened.

  • instig8tor,

You are 100% right about all of that. Most people don't realize how great that defense was, and how shitty the offense became after Prothro's injury. That injury was as devastating as probation.

Prothro came verrry close to having is leg amputated below the knee as a result of the injury, so I am just thankful that he's got his leg in tact.

Good luck in your life after football, Pro. You rock.

  • is he not able to run or anything....cause i figured after he got well he could do rehab and play again unless he dont want to

  • he had a limp last year when he took out the game ball he'll probaly never play again

  • no he broke it so bad that he can not play any more. ROLL TIDE!

  • God bless this Alabama Legend

  • would have been a great receiver not to mention one of the most prolific return men of all time. I feel terrible for him and hope that he knows that my generation will remember him for what he was to the Alabama team and fans... ROLL TIDE Tyrone!!!

  • ROLL TIDE ROLL!!!

  • its a shame they were trying to run the score up, he'd be makin catches on sunday now

  • They were NOT running the score up. It was supposed to be a short pass (fourth and 5) and Florida busted the play. Croyle threw to his only open receiver - Prothro. The injury was horrible but it was not an attempt to run up the score.

  • one of the best players alabama ever had, damn shame what happend

  • what i find awesome about him was that he was tiny receiver

  • sad he can never play football again :'(

  • That is my cusin

  • how can i get this on my mp3 player??????

  • I made the video, visit my profile page and go to my website. You can contact me there. I have the original format. RTR!

  • I was there at that game where he broke his leg... i was going for the Gators cause there my number one team (bama 2nd) and yeah i hated seeing that happen (what i hated more is how bad bama kicked florida's ass that game)

  • That was beautifully done. Roll Tide.

  • As much as I HATE Alabama, I really hate to see him go. Alabama's season was never the same again because of his absence.

  • these guys cant tackle for shit, he'd be crap at rugby

  • haha your so stupid a rugby player wouldnt be able to even touch that kind of speed

  • search brian habana, 100m in 10.1 seconds! says it all

  • I'm sick and tired of you rugby players and you guys talking about how were pansies because we use pads and such and Ive seen rugby's "worst hits" and there about as bad as me and my friends playing in a yard i take that back not even that. me and my friends tackle harder

  • yea ok id like to see one of them tackle ur bitch ass

  • rugby is crap. who cares? a bunch of buff guys out there running around for nothing because its clear they aren't the athletes that even my sister is.

  • hey talliman search for rocket ismail. 4.2 40 bitch

  • damn i never heard of this guy until i seen his injury on here and he looks like one of the best college players i have ever seen

  • n 2007 a bunch of youtubers got together to kill your dumbass, retype this message for the hell of it!

  • Its so sad seein this video.. Pray to god that he will be able to play again.

  • thank you for this beautiful tribute. God Bless Tyrone Prothro.

  • i'm glad we had him when we did

  • Tyrone will never play football again. Its really goo having him on the sideline for motivation though.

  • Prothro,D.J. hall, keith brown, nikita stover, jimmy johns, glen coffee, and john parker wilson next year thats a pretty good offense if he comes back

  • what's the song called?

  • It's called CHASE(demo)by composer by Bill Brown. A lot of his videogame and movie music is available on his site.

  • wow ive never seen that block prothro did on that SC game what a player he is

  • Great video...I'm glad it didn't actually show the leg break. I still can't stand to see it.

  • Glad you liked the video :)

    Jim

    BamaPride-com

    ROLLTIDE!

  • Alabama football and especially when Tyrone Prothro is playin....just gives me cold chills...i know, weird

  • I want Prothro back again too....he is the greatest...too bad he cant play this year though....its fine though i get to see him dominate Georgia...ROLL TIDE!!!!

  • This is beautiful, just beautiful! I remember when BEAR coached. He would be so proud!!! Prothro is still in our prayers!

  • I'm poking around the rumor mill as well looking for updates on Prothro. At this stage of the game, it would be best for him to redshirt the upcoming year - in the process, saving another year of eligibility and giving him more recovery time. Which is good because I want him in top shape when your boys go up against my boys in '07. GO NOLES!
