In the Netherlands, high school students still have to learn Die Stem as part of the course "Dutch poetry"... God seën Langenhoven. (Some Dutch schools also teach Afrikaans within the Dutch-language courses.) Soos my skool gedoen het.

I just wanted to say that the most amazing thing at this song is when people sing those parts of it which are not in their first language. Its so great to see whites sing a bantu-language and blacks afrikaans, its so funny :-) Thats far more better than having a separate text for the whole anthem in each language. And the whole song is very melodious and the words sound so good :-) One highlight is when it starts: "Uit die blou van onse HEMEL" by the way :-) Best wishes from Hamburg ;-)

Well I'm Dutch and a lot of my family has lived in South Africa since WWII and I speak English, Dutch, Afrikaans, and German. I can tell you, Afrikaans does not sound like a language of oppressors to me. It's basically dumb old Dutch. It's not like every word involves killing Kaffirs. It'd be the same as German. Just because Germans killed people from all races in WWII and were the oppressors, should German as a language be removed from Europe? No.
