  • Riker pulled a Anthony wiener: 24th century style! lol

  • I had no idea that this episode could apply to homosexuality...

  • @MightyKuuga Calling me a bigot proves nothing. If you fail to try to engage with any of the arguments I am willing to make, and instead call me a bigot, it shows how empty your thinking is. Not everyone that disagrees on an issue is a bigot, and I certainly wouldn't call you names due to your differences with me.

  • @MightyKuuga Not supporting every iota of the gay agenda is not homophobia.

  • every time i see this episode her speech brings a tear to my eye.

  • That's one downer of an ending.

  • *Whoots* great way to explain your point /thumb up

  • This episode is not about Homosexuality, but rather transgenderism and gender theory.

  • @KimberleyLynneM

The episode is about being different and having compassion for those who are... I do not think it is really necessary (or wise) to try and connect this lesson to any specific issue.

  • @donfolstar my sociology teacher is making my class compare it to one specific issue-Homosexuality. Or the idea of Transgenderism and gender theory. Either way, he gave the assignment to compare it to one specific social issue in today's society.

  • This episode really explained a lot to me. This and science. Many species change sexes and homosexuality is a natural part of nature. Not all of us are breeders. Be it be straight or gay.

    Great episode.

  • You know, I've often considered star trek to be too nerdy, even for my tastes, and only ended up here by mistake. If there's more stuff like this, and your "Lessons in Humanity: Habeas Corpus" video, I'm pretty sure I'll be adding Trek to my To-Watch list.

  • Great use of rhetoric in this episode, but they could've been more balanced about it. There are good arguments on both sides of this situation. They should've had an alien counselor/interrogator respond to Soren's arguments, and put forward the other side's beliefs in a decent light too.

  • @shadow3772 star trek was(is) more "religious" than would ever admit. Preachy was one of terms used here and it fits. It's not interested in being balanced or contradicted, just making desciples.

  • Why exactally in all of the Star Treks, there were no jews, hispanics, or gays in the 24th century?

  • First of all I don't like your question, second of all Gene Roddenberry thought that ALL religon was bullshit so their is little or none of it in Star Treks humanity, theyre were Hispanics in Star Trek, and their are gay's in Star Trek's it's just that that coward Rick Berman was to much of an asshole to give the fans what Roddenberry had promised before he died which was a real episode about gay rights.

  • @HouseofAtreus01 Hispanics and gays are in the series. It's Religion that isn't because Roddenberry felt Religion was a delusion humans would leave behind...

  • You could make naother onje of these vidoes with "The Measure of a Man" in season two perhaps.

  • There are absolutely countless candidates for making more videos like this just from TNG alone, to say nothing for a few rare gems among the shows that came after.

  • That's why I love star trek. So many episodes have a message to it; a level of sophistication which modern day shows are increasingly losing.

  • @ussmwm

Then there's the other side, these messages and stuff being overdone and over obvious, preaching, talking down to us, as if we've never heard them before.

    It's like Avatar.

Technology bad, we bad, we evil, should be ashamed for all the Native Americans and pollution and stuff.

  • @Usul573 I agree that any message overdone becomes annoying and counterproductive, but it's not always quite that extreme. That aren't all about us being evil. Some are mild, simply emphasizing our flaws, and others show the good in times of extreme stress.

I will grant you that Avatar has a message down over and over again, so in that respect it was ruined, but if you take a moment to look that various elements within different episodes, you see all kinds of messages across the spectrum.

  • Kinda how we are with the gay issues

  • Well that was the point and the wonderful thing about Star Trek it show's us as a race at our best and worst under a curtain that avoids scrutiny from those who would make things worse but not so much as for people to not be able to see the messages hidden in it.
