October 15th is Bankrtuptcy Deadline, which means that companies/people will be filing by that date which will definitely effect this economy. More layoffs will come after Christmas as I have heard that businesses are just holding on for dear life until Chrismas and are deluded thinking that people are actually going to "spend lots of money" this holiday season.
Most of the sheeple you mention are very narcissistic. They only want to "think positive" in a selfish manner.

I don't know what the October surprise or shocker will be. But it could lead towards Martial Laws and the opening of Fema camps. However, the Rapture will occur and before the start of the 7 year Tribulation period. It could occur before or during the collapse and even with Martial Laws occuring. Yet, when it does occur and its aftermath effects will cause a worldwide global crisis and with massive shock and panic across the world.

I'm about as prepared as a guy can get in the city. I see what's coming but I'm not as concerned as a lot of people are. You see I'm sort of a geeky social outcast so I never married and never had kids. I was sad and lonely through my 20's and early 30 but now I'm glad it turned out this way. Basically the only person I have to take care of is myself. So I'm watching this whole collapse as if I were some kind of tourist. I take precautions and plan but I don't fear for my children's future.

Charlie, it's not just Americans that need to wake up - entire Europe is asleep. Here in Sweden, the most important thing right now for most people is the Swedish version of the "American Idol" (Idol 2009). I have come to the conclusion that it is absolutely pointless to try to wake these people up, they simply don't want to know what's going on. I am grateful that I have managed to wake up my parents, but my sister is still sleeping. This WILL be brutal and sadly many will panic and perish.
