All hail; those of us that put up with the Sunday programming of Big Valley, Gene Carroll and Polka Varieties. I dreaded Sundays for we only had three channels to choose from. I suffered so and developed a good scence of humor watching.
My Dad was on this show performing 2 songs he recorded in Nashville. It was 1972, I called WEWS to find out if I can obtain a copy of the footage, and was told all the films were destroyed. Is this true? Do you think it is possible it's still out there? If you have any info, please email me at nonrev@gmail.com
Also, although I am not Polish...I find it ironic that I have been working at a Polish business for ten years where very little English is spoken...thanks Big C and H for preparing me!
Did this inspire the 'Schmenge Brothers' at SCTV and don't you guys think that the female dancer in the blue dress and scarf is the inspiration for Andrea Martin's Polish character on SCTV?
OMG! I remember this! Not just this, but the original! To this very day I still muse on how Sunday is the day for all those fat old people to dance the polka (and I know I'm getting to be one of them, oh well).
This stuff still holds its own against the junk on Sunday afternoon TV these days.
Poor kid at 3:25! They sure don't make 'em like they used to.
I didn't think I would ever see this again,.. Polka !!,..
3;30 is classic !!
Thanks for sharing

trouble is, those shows will linger in our memories, even as we watch the sludge on post 2000-TV.

I just laughed so hard at this! Thank you so much for putting it up. :D
Incidentally, they needed more old ladies dancing with each other. That's what I remember most about Polka Varieties.

Hope your grandmother is well, whether she's in Cleveland, Florida, or gone to a worthy rest.
Bet you a box of fresh Krispy Kremes you still dance to this.
(still the Panda, name changed due to a screwup)
