  • I didn't think I would ever see this again,.. Polka !!,..

    3;30 is classic !!

    Thanks for sharing

  • This predates the Shmenge brothers by many years, does it not?

  • @ferociousgumby

probably taught the Shmenges everything they knew

  • I took drum lessons at Sodja's.

  • All hail; those of us that put up with the Sunday programming of Big Valley, Gene Carroll and Polka Varieties. I dreaded Sundays for we only had three channels to choose from. I suffered so and developed a good scence of humor watching.

  • somewhere John Paul II is roaring with laughter...

  • polka varieties was one of those weekend shows us kids dreaded watching.... others were gene carroll show, hee haw, and lawrence welk show.

  • @swimmerB0B

trouble is, those shows will linger in our memories, even as we watch the sludge on post 2000-TV.

  • classic

  • I just laughed so hard at this! Thank you so much for putting it up. :D

Incidentally, they needed more old ladies dancing with each other. That's what I remember most about Polka Varieties.

  • Yes..RIP, Mr. Wilcox..I heard from a family friend in the last few days that Wilcox really enjoyed this, and was good sport about it..

  • Paul Wilcox just passed away. see: clevelanddotcom/obituaries/index.ssf/2010/06/paul_wilcox_85_hosted_wews_cha.html#incart_rh

  • i have about 10 hours of skits on vhs that i used to tape. What classics they are now

  • I was the drummer in that skit.

  • Thanks for posting this. This is one of my all time favorite skits. Without question Hoolihan and Big Chuck are Cleveland icons.

  • Also, although I am not Polish...I find it ironic that I have been working at a Polish business for ten years where very little English is spoken...thanks Big C and H for preparing me!

Mrs Kapusta rocks! They need a Pani Ponchki!

  • Did this inspire the 'Schmenge Brothers' at SCTV and don't you guys think that the female dancer in the blue dress and scarf is the inspiration for Andrea Martin's Polish character on SCTV?

Anyone think the same as me??

  • @AuntieMary50 I agree.

  • I remember being at my grandma and grandpa's house on Sunday's, watching Polka Varieties. Talk about nostalgia!

  • OMG! I remember this! Not just this, but the original! To this very day I still muse on how Sunday is the day for all those fat old people to dance the polka (and I know I'm getting to be one of them, oh well).

This stuff still holds its own against the junk on Sunday afternoon TV these days.

Poor kid at 3:25! They sure don't make 'em like they used to.

  • @PandaMishima I know what you mean. My gramdmother used to have this show every sunday after church...

  • @groundhog713

Hope your grandmother is well, whether she's in Cleveland, Florida, or gone to a worthy rest.

Bet you a box of fresh Krispy Kremes you still dance to this.

(still the Panda, name changed due to a screwup)

  • This is just SO classic Hoolihan, SO classic Cleveland TV, SO Parma...such good good memories!!!!
