The main progression is C-7 / Bb-7, Eb7/9 / Abmaj7 / D-7b5, G7 /

C-7 Aeolian (ish) then a 2-5-1 in Ab then a 2-5 pulling back to C-7

You can play it modal (use just Eb maj scale/ C min pent) or play the changes.

This is outstanding playing, although it must be said the chord sequence from 'Sunny' is a gift for any half-decent guitarist. Anything, from simple pentatonic and blues scales, to more advanced modes and jazz scales, works over it. It's sequences like this that allowed Grover Washington to make his career....a really lovely performance.

matt is playing this in C minor instead of A minor so just learn the melody by ear here and transpose it to A (it's easy enough, all pentatonic).
