  • Nice vid Gary ,just one question do you recheck the area after digging your targets as often things get missed this way

  • Well done Gary still searching for my first gold

  • Another great viewing Gary .....you lucky boy haha

  • Great video. buying my first detector this month and have been watching videos such as this for some tips. I'm aware of the crown foreshaw permit but did you need permission from anyone else (local authority etc) for beach detecting? Thanks

  • Cod you possibly recommend a metal detector that' within a teenagers budget? Theres a huge beach in Devon and I want a detector to find stuff under the sand.

  • @Rocktecho id recommend a garret ace 250, they cost about $230 new, i love mine

  • @damiano16ful agreed i field tested one the other week and they are a great model

  • @Rocktecho There are different metal detectors for different purposes. Ones for gold prospectors don't work well for looking for coins, and vice versa. You would want one with a smaller coil most likely that is good at detecting through sand and finding jewelry and coins.

  • great video Gary, you should put more videos on when you can find the time, a lot of us armchair detectorists get our kicks out of videos like this.

  • Hi Gary,

Great detecting technique and very interesting to watch but please please please slow down your camera panning/jerking to give viewers the time to look at what's going on when dealing with close-ups. It's very uncomfortable watching the close-ups and just a few seconds of 'hold' on the subject would make your videos even better.

All the best from a fellow detector user.

  • I'm a noob in metal detecting but a good place to detect is under recently demolished houses. You can find some very interesting stuff.

  • i live near there

  • :D

  • Nice vid i cant help but laugh every time i hear the metal detector. Exscuse my chilidishness xD

  • i found a sinker about have a metre down when i was digging at the beach for fun

  • nice finds, do you keep your gold or sell it.....

  • you can wash these coins with viniger and salt they will be in a good condition please reply after doing this good luck!

  • hey, just a question, do you have scratches on your metal detector, i am not so good in english. but i mean do you have those scratches on the circle, how you call that?

  • ney where do you get one of those blue strainers

  • very true, u will find tons of garbage untill u find something good

  • Ewwwwwwwwwwwwwww exmouth western australia or exmouth uk , you decide .

  • erm.. hello i'm thinking of metal detecting myself...but i live in Bastogne (Battle of the Bulge place) and there was a huge war here back in WW2 so i'm kinda affraid for mines... do i have to worry about that?

  • Those rings you found may be gold plated, seeing as gold is a non-magnetic metal.

  • @AdamTheGuitarHero a metal detecter works off radio waves not magnet. So gold shows up.

  • @zekehooper Stupid me making a Mistack again :D

  • Comment removed

  • i wiil be investing in the most expensive detactor possible look out GOLD RINGS here i come looking forward to early retirement.

  • Hi I live in sussex and just got in to this hobby anys tips for the hobby ?

  • DENNIS, THERE IS SOME LOVELY FILTH OVER HERE...OH HOW DO YOU DO....I AM ARTHUR KING OF THE BRITTONS.

  • So what do you do with all the coins you find? Do you ever find any valuable things?

  • Did you get your Crown Estates permit from Wardell-Armstrong to detect on the beach? You must have one even if they are free issue!

  • What was the brand detector you are using? I listed three times and all I can get is 'nappy trick' detector.

  • People threw coins for luck .. and my uncle came and stole happiness :))))

  • Have you ever sold anything you have found.

  • man, a lot of coins on the beaches of the uk :)

  • hmm can't wait till summer

  • Nice video, you sure picked a good spot for coins! Congrats on the ring, seems you had an excellent day :)

  • gosh.. I wish one in ten of the rings I've found were gold.. I've got, what , about 60 rings but only two gold ones.... maybe I should buy an etrac.

  • R2D2 is there lol

  • Nice ring :) and great video.

  • Great video - thanks......

  • Nicely produced video, very interesting. Just wondering, do the quality and quantity of finds vary on different types of beaches, i.e. sand, shingle, rocky shore?

  • Thank's ! Great Video!

  • another great day at the beach love the finds

  • how much did ur metal detecter cost cuz im getting a 350 pound 1 but i have to put 100 towards it :)

  • great stuff! I just added your video to my site. Looking for my insight on this ocean or water detecting. See my video on my first detecting at the ocean in Oak Island!

  • Lovely video mate, nicely put together and amazing picture clarity.Nice ring, and good to see you took the rubbish home with you.5 stars mate.

  • im 13 and new at metal detecting, i have the bounty hunter quick draw 2 i have not yet found much but i dont no were to metal detect any tips.

    jason

  • @bluehock24 Go to the park. Try soccer, football and baseball fields. You'll find lots of loonies and toonies very near the surface. When you search the field, go slowly back and forth and go slowly to make sure you don't miss a spot. You'll also find a lot of pennies, but when you hit loonies and toonies it makes it worth it. You might also find some gold and silver rings. Try to find old fairgrounds in your area. You'll get silver coins there. Check the woods in parks (for old coins)

  • Hi gary can you please give me some on advice on settings for the beach for coin hunting for the etrac i have done 4 outings so far about 3 hours at a time on different beaches all i have come across is beer cans, ring pulls etc

  • Did you find enough to buy a bear?

  • That's a really good coinhunting site you were hunting---coins everywhere

  • EXCELLENT VIDEO, I AM IN BRAZIL AND JUST STARTING, ANY IDEAS ON BUYING A GOOD METAL DETECTOR IN THE US

  • Great video...I guess you'll never know what you can find. That's what makes it exciting.

  • Hi,good video, thanks for posting this ! Im thinking of getting a Metal Detector.I know that to use a metal detector on land (e.g. a field) you need the landowners permission, what about the beaches in the UK ?,...are most of them public beaches where anyone can just turn up?Hope to hear from you soon, happy hunting !

  • i thought on a beach you would fing lots of ring pulls lucky thing them coins are in nearly perfect condition

  • i thought on a beach you would fing lots of ring pulls

  • wow this is cool! exmouth must be a great place to find metal cuz i have lost £8 on the beach onece

  • i was starting to get bored of so many coins, until i saw that ring, great job!

  • i like the way you just drop a £1000 pound detector on the floor

  • Could you please recomend a good started detector for less than £200 please. Really liked this video. Thanks.

  • @CelticReject

for inland get a cscope cs3mx at £215 from subtech "dot" co "dot" uk

or for the beach get a cscope cs4pi around same price

    both are excellent beginner/proffesional machines

  • nice ,,, i just ordered my e trac,,, cant wait,,,

  • Nice!!

  • Thanks for the video. Really nicely done. Regards. Paul.

  • @hotpoint34 Cheers Paul, thanks a lot. Gary

  • Thank you for sharing your good time at the beach

  • @Gutentag888 I'm very happy you enjoyed it, thanks for letting me know. Gary

  • @garylq i love your ring collection :D

  • could i find my mobile phone with a metal detector?

  • @Posthuman7 Yes you can! I have found several mobile phones on the beach, but none of them will ever work again after they've come into contact with seawater. Gary

  • @garylq wow thats really cool! Could you help me with a starter metal detector?

  • nice finds :)

  • Nice hunt. Looks like you have some tumbling to do.

  • Very nice ring. Your vids are nicely filmed.

  • @joesphx19 Hi. Thank-you very much. I'm very happy to know you enjoyed my video. Gary

  • hi only been detecting for few weeks, had loads of coins and two gold rings. so just like to say thank you as watching your videos gave me loads of tips.....

  • @100lizardman That's great to know, I'm very happy to have been of help. Good luck. Gary

  • and to reply to 1ukjunglednbraver "i thought it was illegal to do in spain" well it depends of comunity. There are seventeen autonomous communities of Spain, each one with his laws about metal detecting, but in general as long as you do it in public places, beaches or in lands with the permision of the owner it is ok. You can't do it into lands that are of history interest, archeological sites you should be member of your comunity asociation of metal detecting to know where you can do it.

  • hi ... again ... my reply is a little late (only 8 months)... but here i am ... again :)... i did that family metal detecting day me and my son and we got 2 coins and 2 Rifle Cartridges from ww2 also a button from that period from a spanish army coat.... a day to remember. Anyway.. since then my son got a big jar full of coins and a chest of antiques... and his stay-on tab easy-open ends just passed 1000 hehehe ....unlike me ...i only got 6 gold rings and 3 silver rings & 2 gold nicenuggets

  • I search through piles of Roman coins looking for sand.

  • Another interesting video, great watching again.

  • OK thanks for answering i mean search on the beach

  • @Heliman96 For all you need to know about getting permission to search UK beaches google "crown estates metal detecting" and open the top result. Gary

  • Hello i'm live in the UK and i purchased a metal detector and my question is can i detect anywhere in the UK? reply pls thanks good vid :D

  • @Heliman96 Hi, thanks. You can search in most places, but every piece of land has an owner and you must always have that owners permission. Among the places you cannot search are scheduled ancient monuments and sites of special scientific interest.

  • nice vid cheers for it. im thinking about buying a metal detector but have no idea what to go for or anything about them. it looks like a good hobby. any tips?

  • @polmac7 Hi, google 'ukdetectornet' to find a website with plenty of tips about metal detecting and a good forum. Gary

  • @garylq NICE ONE MATE, THANKS

  • There's a beach 20 miles south of Lisbon in Portugal, d'you think you could have a look for my dads wedding ring? Nice vid :)

  • @DocRoe92 I'd on the next plane, but I'm afraid beach detecting is forbidden in Portugal. Spoilsports! Gary

  • @garylq Wow, i didn't know that!!! Ah well, it's my dads fault for losing wait and having thinner fingers!!! :P

  • i want more video !! Maybe the third years metal detecting finds ? :)

  • I will bet that if you go up to the buisy area of the beach instead of hiding out in the rocks, that you will fing a shit ton more gold jewelry

  • @LakeHighiii It doesnt always work out like that, the sands shift with each tide and finds often accumulate far from where they were lost, there are very strong currents here (14 knots between high/low tide) as this beach is at the mouth of a large river estuary. Gary

  • Gorgeus looking video mate :) Every MD:ing video should be in HD!

  • @MrPulltab Thank-you very much, I'm glad you enjoyed it. Gary

  • arite gary ive just got meself a detector and taken it up. only found 1 coin so far still getting used to it ! i live in torquay and havnt had as good finf on our beeches as in your video!! are you in a club? do you ever go detecting with anybody else ?

  • @MrWalliswallis Hi, No I'm not in a club, the meeting times and weekend club outings are inconvenient for me. The key to success on the beach is finding the hot-spots where the shifting sands deposit the coins and rings, there must be loads to find at Torquay somewhere. Good luck. Gary

  • Great video Gary. I've only just got into the world of metal detecting and bought an X-Terra 305 and after finding a handful of coins on the beach I'm totally hooked! Looking forward to finding my first elusive gold ring!!

  • @hammerhead8370 Good luck, it took me several months to find my first one, yours is waiting for you under there somewhere. Gary

  • Loved this video. Unfortunatelly in my country, Portugal, metal detecting is forbiden

    on the beach.

  • @mnlpsvsapo Thank-you very much. That is a crazy law, how can it harm anybody searching on a beach? Gary

  • Very good film seeing as you did all the work. Are you from Devon Gary, and do you detect inland? cheers Nick

  • @helmetbasher Thanks Nick. Yes, I live in Exmouth, I split my detecting time about 50/50 between beach and inland. Gary

  • Hi mate i have a metal detector but i have lost the charger and the battry pack needs to be replaced do you no of a place in devon i can buy these to ? any help would be fab. Thanks, MR RABBIT EYE.......

  • @mrrabbiteye Hi, no I don't know of any detector shops in Devon, I buy all my stuff online by mail order. Use a search engine to find the online detector specialists, they're very reliable, or try eBay. Good luck. Gary

  • really really enjoyed this.. i was stuck to my lcd watching it.. thks gary

  • @larrythelookout Hi, thanks very much! I'm glad you enjoyed it. Gary

  • Hi Gary great vids really enjoyed them .just a quick question I was about to buy the E trac but nigel at regton said they where not good in wet sand but you dont seem to have a problem . trouble is there seems to be information overload regarding detectors now so confusing would appreciate a shove in the right direction Ed

  • @5050zulu1 Hi, thanks Ed, in my experience the E-Trac is excellent in all challenging conditions including wet sand and I've never heard anybody say anything to the contrary, so I have no idea why Nigel would be telling you that that (maybe he has a better profit margin on other detectors). Good luck, Gary

  • Brilliant - thanks!

    Bruce - USA

  • @BlackhawkWindEnergy Cheers for that Bruce! Gary

  • awesome! i live in a very old house so my land has lots of treasures. i would love to find any type of ring, i just need to find the right area. i love metal detecting! great vids!:)

  • @AudreyisGsVlogHA Thank-you very much. Seek and you will find! Gary

  • hi gary got the etrac used your recomended setting working great thanks just one thing how do you set to minimal iron mask thats the only bit got stuck on cheers

  • @suityousir2006 Press the QuickMask button, then use the down arrow to slide the black bar down low near the bottom of the screen, use the left button to remove the black bar on the left, then press the Detect button to go back to the main screen. See the instruction manual page 32. Good luck. Gary

  • @nevalus Thank-you very much. Gary

  • gnarly finds dude

  • how much was that metal detector is u.s. dollars?

  • @tricia9902 Hi, the US RRP for the E-Trac is $1895, you can probably get it for $1400 or less if you shop around. Gary

  • Hi Gary - excellent video and thanks for posting. You have inspired me to finally trade in my clapped out XLT and go out and buy an E-trac. First dig with the new baby this weekend - wish me luck! HH

  • Hi Ady, thanks a lot, best of luck to you, like any machine it will take a few sessions to get used to the E-Trac. You'll find the E-Trac is brilliant in high trash areas, one part of this vid that ended up 'on the cutting room floor' was me showing the huge iron girders and stuff submerged under this beach, but I still had no trouble picking up the good targets. HH, Gary

  • hi there think your video is a real inspiration and has now made me want to buy minelab etrac but could you please let me know the settings what you personally use for land and beach many thanks happy hunting

  • Me and my son really enjoyed it. Thanks :)

  • That's great, thanks for letting me know. Gary

  • I wish I was at your place !!!! we don't have much old stuff here since coins don't date that far. I will make a video to share what I can do , do to your video !! I feel more confident because you !

  • I had soooo much fun watching this. amazed and willing to keep searching for stuff like his !

  • Thanks very much, I'm glad you enjoyed my video, it was great fun recording it. Gary

  • hi gary, whats the e - trac like at picking up different metals? i.e coins, silver, gold? i am interested in buying one as this seems very good but metal detector reviews vary from every site, a personal experience is best i think. thanks

  • Hi, the E-Trac is very good, very sensitive. It's particularly good at finding good targets next to large junk and in high trash areas, it would easily spot a buried coin next to an iron bar. It gets a very strong recommendation from me, the E-Trac's not cheap, but as is often the case you get what you pay for. Gary

  • check out your shakes when u dig up that ring.....thats gold fever right there baby....

  • Hi, yep, I know exactly what you mean, finding gold gives you an amazing rush. Thanks for the comments. Gary

  • sounds like ur taking advice from the moomins...love that sound...good vid......

  • Haha, yep, a cross between the Moomins and R2D2. I usually use it with headphones, it sounds very different through them. Thanks for commenting, Gary

  • luv the sound of ur tecter wat kind is it?

  • Hi, it's a Minelab E-Trac.

  • Nice quality film Gary. What camcorder are you using.

  • Hi. Thanks, It's a Sony SR10 40gb HDD camcorder. I bought it from Argos clearance bargains on eBay about a year ago. Edited and rendered with Sony Vegas. Gary

  • Nice video Gary. I'm just up the road from you around the Slapton Sands area.

Just waiting to get a camcorder so I can post my own. Happy hunting. Regards Dogman

  • @GlennLane1 Hi Dogman, thank-you very much. That's one of the best beaches in Devon you have there, best of luck to you, Gary.

  • Hello Gary,

Thoroughly enjoyed the video!,.......given me some ideas where to try on my local foreshore.

Please can you tell me if you have ever found hammered coins from your beaches as I have yet to find one,I use the Explorer II in All metal using ferrous tones,I often wonder the reason I don't find any is because they have been eaten away by electrolysis as some of the pre decimal coins I have found are wafer thin.

    Best regards

    ORDOVIC

  • @ORDOVIC Hi, I'm very pleased you enjoyed it. I've never found hammered on Exmouth Beach, the oldest identifiable coin I've had from the beach is a late 1600's farthing. Conditions are similar here, silvers found on the beach are in a very poor state compared to those from fields. I use a small amount of iron mask, no other discrimination, there's big iron everywhere under that bit of beach, my personal preference is for conductive sounds. Good luck. Gary

  • Nothing like finding your first ring/piece of gold, i was very lucky and found about 4 clumped together a few years back.

One of them was a mens signet ring the others were mourning victorian rings with jet stone, 2 of them were broken, but the thing with gold is it comes out of the soil like the day it went in, great feeling and good finds there sir :)

  • @Ganbareg Wow, 4 together! Very well found. I agree, it's an amazing feeling when you pull out gold, still looking as good as new, and on the beach you're usually thinking 'he we go, just another ring-pull' at the time.

  • Your videos are awesome, I love them.

  • @frankvenn Thanks a lot. Gary

  • Yer got me thinking though, were they stashed by thieves/robbers back in the day, i mean finding one ring is hard enough but 4, never to be repeated i think :)

  • @Protojoe912 Hi, to be honest it was pretty easy that day, the hardest job is identifying the hot-spot, once you're on it the finds are plentiful.

  • Congrats on the 18KT Gold Ring! WOW! I never saw such a ring!

  • Thanks very much, that ring's a real beauty, the poor loser must have been devastated. Gary

  • Love the vid, nice to see something from Devon, sounded like R2D2 on crack so I'll stick with the Garrett Ace 250! Awesome, thanks for posting, all the best.

  • Hi, thanks, I'm glad you liked it. Best of luck to you, may the force be with you. Gary ;-)

  • I enjoyed your vids nice finds too...

  • Hi, Thanks very much for your comments, I'm glad you enjoyed my videos, watch out for a new recording due to be uploaded in the next couple of days. Gary
