@ronquila Well the song doesn't actually appear in the movie at all. All the lines, music and so forth in this video aren't in the movie. It's more then likely this is either from the possible "Lost Cut/First Cut" of Robotech: The Movie or is a little preview that was quickly put together to reveal that a Robotech movie was coming.
Carl Macek has a nickname of "The Godfather of Anime" according to IMDB. But a more appropriate nickname for purists to him is "The Godfather of Butchered Anime." I'm not necessarily the purist type, but does anyone here think so?
nooo....Osamu Tezuka was carries that moniker or something similar. However Macek does have a name that suits him. MACEKRE pronounced as MASSACRE.seeing as how he cut up anime like Macross and Captain Harlock and mash them together as a "new creation" Then he gets his cronies to get the nessecary rights so the companies who produced the anime don't get reconginiton.
WTF is this? this is'nt robotech it's just clips of Megazone 23 and southern cross spliced together horribly butchered X_X...this has to be one of the most butchered dubbed animes i've seen next to 4kids's bastardrization of onepiece.XD
Well, think of it this way. If Carl Macek hadn't convinced so many local station to carry his "Butchered up collection" and made them see that dubbing Japanese anime was a viable option, nobody in the US would have known that anime even existed, and you'd be stuck watching the the 45th season of "The Scooby and Scrappy Comedy Hour".
That is the stupidest argument ever. What about STAR BLAZERS (which, by the way, was very popular and less edited and fucked up than Robotech). And Carl Macek started the whole trend of fucking with series just to fuck with them. Why was it necessary to make so many little changes that don't contribute anything? Take your nostalgia glasses off and ask yourself how you'd feel if this happened to series you currently enjoy
I don't have any nostalgia for Robotech, since I wasn't alive when it was new. This means that I can enjoy it for what it is, and I certainly am doing just that.
i have'nt seen the full version of this yet....people keep saying this sucks but if you really want to watch an anime movie that's really buthered go watch Clash of the Bionoids or any of the English dubbed Animeigo releases lol....
Well if you've seen MEGAZONE 23 you should know that when we get to see the Garland for the first time, it is yellow and then later gets painted in the more familar red.
Yeah, on VHS from the UK, although you'll have trouble finding it since the movie only made it's way to rental and is now over 20 years old. Plus, the footage here is different to that of the actual movie.
Again, good luck finding a copy that someone is either willing to part with or put up on an auction site. The VHS doesn't appear all too often on the likes of eBay, and if you find a copy, you'll need a TV and VCR that can play PAL signals.
Reading comprehension. The *Movie* (from which this clip originates) is based on MegaZone 23. The *TV Show* was based on Macross/Southern Cross/Mospeada(Mospeeder.. whatever)
For those that are curious, you can download the movie via bittorrent.
Harmony Gold released this movie in theaters limited to the Austin, Texas area to bankroll their planned original series "Robotech: The Sentinels". However, a ratings error led to the film being given a G rating instead of PG-13. Outraged parents groups boycotted the movie, generating tons of bad publicity. As a result, any hopes for a national release were squashed, and Harmony Gold ended up filing for bankruptcy.
Yeah, they ended up filing for bankruptcy, despite still being in business. And Robotech II: The Sentinels was canned due to Matchbox dropping out on co-producing and the dollar/yen ratio drastically changing.
I did not know that. The version I heard came from "Robotech: Art Book 3". I just recalled them mentioning the Sentinels project rested on the success of the movie.
There was a connection between the movie and Robotech II: The Sentinels. The original planned version of the movie which would have been set during the MACROSS saga would have had it's characters go over to The Sentinels. But when problems arose and setting the movie in the MACROSS timeline had to be dropped, so was the character idea, so names and designs were changed. And example is Mark Landry was Rick Baker and B.D. Andrews being T.R. Edwards.
this has nothing to do with robotech. this is another movie (a b anime movie that starred the voice of rick hunter). it was a rather "forgetable movie". that's why i don't even remember his name
Fuck this, give me Megazone 23 over this, Give me the Macross univerese over the freak universe of Robotech, give me Southern Cross and Mospeada over Robotech...simply Robotech is a joke!
It had it's test run in 1986, and other then a few releases in some european countries and a VHS release in the UK around 1987, this movie has been more or less forgotten about.
I'm surprised nobody else has realised that all the dialogue spoken in this clip doesn't match up to the released version of 'Robotech:The Untold Story' at all. Perhaps this footage comes from an early cut that Cannon rejected.
if you read the comments, it is believed that this is from the original dubbing session[which is rumoured to have been completed]. the film was re-edited and re-dubbed at the last minute because of studio pressure. it is believed that this version of the film was destroyed in a flood at the offices of harmony central a few years ago. they still have a copy of the script which a few fans have tried to get them to publish online. it cant be any worse then the shadow chronicles.
i remember a tv serie like 15 years ago they had the vikes an fought the invids but i do not remember if it was before or afther rick hunter`s histori or the full name i only remember a a green haired guy that sings inn a dress gay?

When Robotech was hot in the mid 1980s, they wanted to produced a film in addition to the TV series already in syndication. Harmony Gold bought the rights to a Original Video Animation (OVA) called MegaZone 23 and re-edited and re-dubbed the footage into Robotech: The Untold Story. This story has very little to do with the TV series.

Megazone 23 was japans first Original Animated Video in the early 1980's...when HG got the rights to use the footage for their Robotech movie, they actually had the original studio create an Alternate ending which can be found in MZ23Part2 DVD's in Japan Only.
BTW I also remember seeing a version of robotech when I was a kid. Where a zentradi bashes through a window and abducts minmei while she is naked. It was a movie BTW has anyone seen this version!?
yes... origianally the plot was going to be about Mark during the Macross era on earth uncovering the govermant conspiricy to keep Robotech and the Zentradie a secret. the film studio "cannon" didn't think it had enough action so Macek spliced in footage from southren cross and made it about the Masters coming to take the data aboard the SDF-1's computer which had been relocated, and was used ot create the EVE personae, which would be latter dumped into the Android JANICE.
The scenes shown here might be for the robotech the movie, but the movie was two different anime's, Southern Cross, and Megazone 23 part 1. the scenes above are from Megazone 23
Can someone explain me how can Yellow Lancer be singing in this show? He was not even born when this "adventure" of Robotech supposedly happen!
