Making a 3D Logo in 3ds Max 9 with Illustrator Files

Simple solution - save as a cad drawing in Illustrator then import as CAD drawing in Max. No error message.

I'm guessing this only works on simple designs? My import beveled into a box. I was using a transparent png, could that be the case?

How do I get the menu/selection box to appear along the right hand border of the screen? My screen is split into four quadrants wit no menu.

@verathewaitress go to the Customize tab (it's upside at very top somewhere next to the help tab/menu) there click on Show UI then click Show Command Panel, done. Or if you prefer to have more working space you could use the create and modifiers tabs from above

I am trying to open a png file in illastrator and save it and then bring it in to max, but i am getting a plane surface in max.

It makes no sense to import a pixel oriented object (png image) through an object oriented program such us Illustrator.

PNG files are bitmap so they don't contain vector coordinates.. you need eps or ai. if you've got corel draw, there's a feature that "traces" bitmaps into vector and from there you can start from the beginning of this tutorial.

also, for everyone having trouble when you are making a logo, right click the images in illustrator and select 'draw outlines', this will allow you to be able to see the logo in 3D Max

Actually disregard my last message, I figured it out. But now I have a different problem. When I tried to bevel the image, it left holes in the text where it was supposed to be closed, it was open and where it was supposed to be open, it was closed.

I've got a problem. When I import my image into 3ds Max, it says that my image has an improper file format, even though I saved it with an Illustrator 3 version. Please help!

you definately need to tell people to create outlines for the text objects otherwise they would get a blank space in 3ds max
