Your'e having trouble understanding what I'm saying but I guess I can try and spoon feed it to you in more lay terms (lay means simple) universal health care = everyone has to pay whether they want to or not. Our current system = you have a choice. more choice = more freedom.
The real complete equations are: universal health care financing = eveyone contributes = everyone, regardless of income, is covered. Our current system = some don't chose to contribute, but when they end up in the emergency ward we have to pay for them. More choice = no choice if you can't afford ridiculously high premiums and whatever choice the insurance co's give you when they deny your claim.

My parents might be Republican, but as a Democrat, I believe a lower middle-class family like ours would need this insurance coverage. As a student starting college, I know money will be a little harder to come by. My dad takes several prescriptions, I'm on a prescription drug for epilepsy, and I've become concerned something is wrong with my digestive system. Sorry for talking about what affects my family, but if you think about it, there's something you could use that insurance for.

Healthcare without a government option is to healthcare with a government option as a block sliding down an inclined plane in a vacumn is to a block sliding down an inclined plane in water. With a government option an extra force is added and the equations have to be re-written and the solutions re-evaluated. So why not re-write the equations so that private insurance companies can compete with a government plan instead of the whole system collapsing into a socialist regime.
Remember that doctors and surgeons make money by charging for their services. They have an inherent conflict of interest. It is your responsibility to educate yourself about whether you want to spend the money - whether it is yours or your insurance company's.

If you get, say, a mammogram and they tell you you need a biopsy to determine the cancer type, they will schedule for a biopsy in 6-12 months. If the cancer has progressed in 6-12 months they may deem it untreatable and not cost effective to treat.Get it?

Canada does not have a higher NUMBER of cancer deaths because they have a smaller population and much less pollution than us (less carcinogens in the air and water). But they have a higher percentage of preventable cancer deaths because of the wait for treatment or diagnostic procedures.

In this woman's case she never said they made her wait for months to get the tests. They did it fast and began treatment. It just cost a lot. I think we should first revamp medicare/medicaid through amending the HMO Act of 1973 very heavily (the start of the decline of US health care) and remove state mandates on base premiums (on my old plan, I paid 1% of my premium in case I need breast reduction, I am male).

Yes.. State mandates on base coverage account for 40 - 50% of most health insurance premiums. On the policy I used to have I paid in 1% of my premium in case I needed breast reduction surgery.. I am a man, so that is stupid. I also had 1.5% of my premium for cosmetic surgery including breast enlargement.. Again I am a man don't need it, but had to pay anyway.
If people understood why it costs so much, and work toward reducing the cost due to flaws in the current system that would be reform.

Those who believe it is free coverage are misinformed or have been on medicare for most of their lives for one reason or another. Hell, with the $400/mo (20%)premiums (less coverage than prior yrs) I pay currently thru work, if I had a cheaper option I would be thrilled. The savings would go into the economy, don't you think?

Most Americans buy the illusion of great health care, and quickly learn how horrible their health care is, once they get sick and need to actually use their insurance. Big health care companies shouldn't be allowing people with no medical education or degree to control what surgeries, and drugs you're allowed to have. Healthcare companies care more about money, and would rather let you go die in a ditch. You'd be surprised how many loopholes they have to deny you. It's either all or none.

The real complete equations are: universal health care financing = eveyone contributes = everyone, regardless of income, is covered. Our current system = some don't chose to contribute, but when they end up in the emergency ward we have to pay for them. More choice = no choice if you can't afford ridiculously high premiums and whatever choice the insurance co's give you when they deny your claim.

A provision was inserted into Obama's plan that would force private insurers out of business by making it illegal for them to not only take new customers, but offering a cheaper government run alternative they would not be allowed to compete against.
And funny enough, the Democrats told us healthcare reform was about competition...
Feel free to tell me how a business can compete when it cant get new customers or get back ones they lost, in the end it funnels everyone into one single system.

I've talked to many people (Americans) who have lived in Europe for several years and they describe their health care as unbelievably good.. and very cost effective.. My parents might be Republican, but as a Democrat, I believe a lower middle-class family like ours would need this insurance coverage. As a student starting college, I know money will be a little harder to come by. My dad takes several prescriptions, I'm on a prescription drug for epilepsy, and I've become concerned something is wrong with my digestive system. Sorry for talking about what affects my family, but if you think about it, there's something you could use that insurance for.

Just adding one more thing, I don't have health insurance either right now nor a job and not by choice. But the thing is things do change and when you and me arent in desperate times we dont want or need desperate measures to persist by waiting 4 years in line for an operation on us or a loved one when we now could afford it if we had the old system which we gave away.
Sometimes its good to be picky, and no better example than now, just wait a bit and be patient for something better.

In Britain, where I come from, the NHS will care or anyone and everyone. The NHS may not be perfect, and it is the press's favourite issue, but it has improved dramatically. The picture given of of state healthcare in the USA is out of date. State healtcare is a far more viable solution than elitist public healthcare.

Healthcare without a government option is to healthcare with a government option as a block sliding down an inclined plane in a vacumn is to a block sliding down an inclined plane in water. With a government option an extra force is added and the equations have to be re-written and the solutions re-evaluated. So why not re-write the equations so that private insurance companies can compete with a government plan instead of the whole system collapsing into a socialist regime.

Sadly you are correct. However the blame can not go strictly towards Obama. He isn't the one voting on the bills, which are also written by those same people. The people who have changed are the ones bought out by the health insurance companies. If I were President Obama, and felt strongly about the public option (as he proclaims) I would veto any bill without it included. Unfortunately it sounds as if this woman just wasn't very smart. She should have first gotten an individual plan. Secondly, if she would have qualified but couldn't because she had insurance that means she should qualify for medicaid if she dropped the insurance.
Aside from that, at least she lived. If this was Canada they would have scheduled her mammogram about 8 months after she was referred, the sonagram about 6 months later, by that time she would have been terminal and not worth the cost

As far as people dying in the Canadian system, from 5 nurses who immigrated from Canada to here and worked in both systems I will tell you this. If you get, say, a mammogram and they tell you you need a biopsy to determine the cancer type, they will schedule for a biopsy in 6-12 months. If the cancer has progressed in 6-12 months they may deem it untreatable and not cost effective to treat.Get it?

The HR3200 bill was written by big pharma, big insurance (trying to make us buy off their derivatives debt before that market implodes), the rockefeller foundation, and bill and melinda gates foundation in 2007. If that tells you anything.
I think there is definitely a better way for everyone man. We just need to identify what is wrong and what is right and go from there.

In this woman's case she never said they made her wait for months to get the tests. They did it fast and began treatment. It just cost a lot. My point is she should have gotten an individual plan (cheaper w/more coverage) or dropped her insurance and signed onto medicaid. Also, she never said she spoke to a lawyer to sue the company to pay (something i would have done immediately).
I don't think the fringe occurrence of things like this should dictate a change for everyone.

Yes, i agree lawyers are expensive and it is a long process, but under this government plan we have no option to even sue for treatment like this.
I agree we need some stuff to change, I just think this is the wrong direction. I think we should first revamp medicare/medicaid through amending the HMO Act of 1973 very heavily (the start of the decline of US health care) and remove state mandates on base premiums (on my old plan, I paid 1% of my premium in case I need breast reduction, I am male).

The 50 million came from an "estimated" 47 of uninsured and UNDERinsured, so saying 50 million have no insurance is misleading.
We need to fix the HMO Act of 1973 and reduce state mandates on premiums, that would drastically bring down the price of insurance and cost of care.

Yes.. State mandates on base coverage account for 40 - 50% of most health insurance premiums. On the policy I used to have I paid in 1% of my premium in case I needed breast reduction surgery.. I am a man, so that is stupid. I also had 1.5% of my premium for cosmetic surgery including breast enlargement.. Again I am a man don't need it, but had to pay anyway.
If people understood why it costs so much, and work toward reducing the cost due to flaws in the current system that would be reform.

Some people believe a government insurance like medicare is free coverage. Most realize that they have paid into the system, and all working taxpayers pay into medicare. Those who believe it is free coverage are misinformed or have been on medicare for most of their lives for one reason or another. Hell, with the $400/mo (20%)premiums (less coverage than prior yrs) I pay currently thru work, if I had a cheaper option I would be thrilled. The savings would go into the economy, don't you think?
