with tail a dog and smack it into something when happy and crack it open, getting an injury it could bleed to death from unless you take it to the vet/doctor, or it could just get a bruse that hurts a lot.

Plus it leaves the cat completely defenseless, and more prone to biting. As for docking, it's a purely cosmetic procedure, often performed without any anesthesia at all. Can you honestly say it's not painful?

@peteristehbest Don't forget the small hunting dogs like Jack Russells got their docked so that they didn't get them caught in roots while chasing an animal to ground. And there is one breed of small dog that they bred to have a tougher tail so that when they got stuck the hunter could pull them out by their tail or they could use their own tail to pull themselves backwards.

@radeakins They have a bad rep because they are the second deadliest dog after pitbulls only, because their bite can become lethal. I just found out that even though they are second to pits in kills, they have a stronger bite force then them! I own a rotti myself and have bred them. They are amazingly loyal dogs and will go to great lengths (seen it) to protect their family. They do however have to be trained to be social with strangers. Mine isnt for protective reasons. They are kind animals :)

May not help now but, that nipping he was doing at the camera to show he wants to play could be a problem. Hopefully now that he's full grown he grew out of that "Nip with teeth for attention" habbit. Cause rots don't always know how powerful there bite is, and a nip can do some serious damage from them.

Very nice dog! I cant wait to get mine in two months! Ok to kind of settle the score of the tail situation. The reason tails were ever docked on rottweilers is because they pulled carts and their tail would get caught in the cart. The breed mostly doesn't do this anymore therefor that is why it is illegal to dock the tail of the rottweiler in every other country but here in the states. My two previous Rottweilers had tails and so will the one I'm getting in two weeks.

The tails are docked because, for working dogs, they could get caught in barbed wire and opened up like a banana skin! I've seen this happen and it's a lot more painful than a quick snip when they are born.

Between birth and 3 days, docking is still allowed because the nerves haven't formed all the way down to the end of the tail. It's just like getting your ear pierced.

My dad is a breeder of working cocker spaniels and all the puppies have docked tails.
