George didnt plan anything. Comon he fought like he always did since he had returned, otherwise why didnt he "plan" to k.o. holyfield, morrison or even a nobody axel schluz like this? Because he didnt have the luck which he had against moorer. And sure moorer made a mistake by standing in front of george but this is not a master plan at all.
@PacoZola Oh he planned it. He had 10 years to look at what he did wrong in his early career. He was outsmarted. When he returned to take that belt he realised the only thing he can do is outsmart this guy. and my god he did.
@PacoZola Foreman specifically told Lampley BEFORE the fight what was going to happen. Then it did, and you (and Moorer) say "he didn't plan it". Bullshit. Obviously he planned it or he wouldn't have predicted it.

@hershysquirts187 if you just look at the last punch I can see how'd you think that, but you have to look at the series of punches that preceded the ko punch. That last one was just the final one b/f his body said "f*ck it". I actually met Foreman once and got shake his hand, dude has large frozen christmas ham hands. Thats got to be like a sledge hammer. Look at some of the punches he hit Frazier with. SHort punches that sent Joe running in every direction at once
@hershysquirts187 Very understandable. Anything Don King touches is suspect but I don't think Don King promoted this one, but I'm not sure. Hey, a bit of respect here. Moorer was a legendry light heavy that fought the hardest hitting HEAVY weight and was well on his way to winning. So what if hes got sour grapes? Yeh,..and...? Sorry, but Moorer's right here in that Foreman saying he was "setting him up all night" is garbage. You don't plan to get your ass kicked for 10 rounds in the hope of landing one perfect shot. That's just, as Moorer said, bullshit.
@surfinaway10afly Incredibly stupid...sure, Foreman planned to get his ass kicked, his eye swollen shut, for 10 rounds. Get out of your parents' basement kid and get an ounce of brains. Lampley, an HBO employee, saying that years after the fact makes for a nice story - which is what this is. But nobody said anything like that at the time. Perhaps you aren't smart enough to understand that, but give it a good effort, k? Thanks.
@surfinaway10afly Why am I not shocked the best you could do is a 75-year-old woman? What's scary, monkey, is that I bet you couldn't even keep up with her. Now run along like a good little boy. You're out of your league here.
@surfinaway10afly How many food stamps did mom have to forfeit to get money for that computer? I'll tell you what Short Bus, go get some people, preferably someone a) literate and b) with an IQ over 50 to give you better material, because right now you're having a real hard time. You're flipping between your own gay fantasies and dreams of screwing senior citizens. You need someone to throw in the towel for you kid, because you ain't got what it takes.
@surfinaway10afly LOL!!! Trust me, son, getting your ass kicked won't help your cause. You're more than welcome to try, though. Rent out the short yellow bus for a day and come on over!
@surfinaway10afly Yes, I'm sure with all your intelligent posts here the legal system will take you very seriously. The psychiatric community, however, will LOVE to hear what you have to stutter...I mean say.
Though that you're 49 makes your lack of literacy and intellect all the more amusing. This is comedic gold! Please continue.
@surfinaway10afly Oh the boxing would be fun. I'm pretty sure I can pencil you in for the 30 seconds it would take me to knock your ass out. Gas up the short bus and come on over!
@surfinaway10afly New York, come on down, or up, or whatever you have to do. But I can't help...transporting a minor across state lines is a federal offense ya know?
@surfinaway10afly I'm outside Ithaca...they let those little yellow buses on the interstate don't they. Come on over. I'm sure mommy can show you where it is on a map.
wow a lot of people falling for George's bullshit on these boards, dont get me wrong i love George's character and humility after what he went through in Zaire, but people cmon wake up he even says it himself 'im a salesman' George had a gameplan sure but not as complex as he is making out, he did get lucky but he deserved some luck
formemans shots look like they dont have thing on them but he hit as hard as any heavyweight if ever seen i have been watching fights since late 1970s
how come teddy can see moorer got set up but he cant see it. oh you think he got lucky? well you would be lucky to get out the first round if george was 25.
That's why Freddie Roach got rid of him - working with Pacquiao - his attitude in this video. Teddy was telling him in the corner and he didn't listen.
Michael Moorer defeated himself. His trainer saw his demise before it even happened. Even now he sits there and says Foreman just got lucky. You make your own luck. George was too arrogant in Zaire but at least he learned from it. Moorer's attitude means he'll never learn anything.
people can judge foreman in the fight if they want.....,,the bottom line is,,he knocked that little punk on his ass...moorer was standing infront of foreman,,,the number one rule boxing should be NEVER STAND INFRONT OF FOREMAN! i dont know if foreman planned the knowdown,,but i do know this,, he sure as hell wasnt planning on loosing,,so what ever he (planned) he carried it out,,,nuff said!
Haha, Foreman is such a prick. It's not enough that he won the fight, he actually have to try to make people believe that he actually planned it out all along. Yeah, what plan involves getting beaten to a pulp before knocking the other guy out? Both his eyes were shut, his whole face was so swollen you couldn't see what he looked like, and he has the audacity to say he "planned it all". That win is the definition of lucky shot. He hits very hard, but that was a 1/1000 shot.
well, the key tactic of George is said pretty clear in this vid which i kinda believe in, cause he knew he could take Moorers punches without getting knocked out and then play a bit soft and saving what he got to the later rounds, and Moorer think he got him under control, but what if George simply was too tired and Moorer didn´t keep standing in front of him and so on, it was a bet and it worked, just like Ali with his rope adope tactics in Zaire.
The big punch is the last thing a heavyweight loses with age.
Other things may dissipate with time...the stamina, the handspeed, the combinations, the footwork, the reflexes, the eyesight, even his chin may crumble a little.
A lot of fighters seem to make the same mistake with George. They circle around and pick him off, winning the fight easily, then they get over confident in the later rounds and stand in front of him trying to prove something. To stand in front of Geroge is like standing in front a train.
read teddy atlas's book...lol see the clip oF ATLAS AND FOREman in the press conf? atlas actually had a roll of quarters in his hand ready to punch foreman if it came to it
It's funny, Moorer calls Foreman a liar "he didn't set this up he got lucky" yet his own trainer, one of the best trainers in the sport, sat there and told him all match long "he's setting you up!"
i think george definitely planned it...maybe not 3 months in advance (duh) but definitely towards the end of the last two rounds, when he saw that moore was getting overconfident, Geroge noticed that he was just standing right in front of him, stalkin him, and he was like, i'm gonna take a few more of his punches and lure him in for the straight right cross
Dude, you lost... live with it! Even Teddy was telling him in the corner that Foreman was setting hiim up but as usual, he didn't listen to Teddy. That's why he screwed up.
amazing how george took back everything he lost in zaire. he wore the same shorts, he came from behind and bucked the odds. he retook some of the history he lost to ali and even some of ali's charisma along the way.
bullshit it was a plan, he took a terrible beating for 9 rounds. joe cortez said he was close to stoping the fight. was that part of the plan, foreman knew that a 1/2 was the best chance to knock moorer out and he landed it perfect but it wasn't a plan. it was a plan the way rahmann knocking out lewis was a plan,. throwing your best punch and see what happens. but saying he planned to outboxed for 9 rounds, have his eye swollen shut, nearly get stop just to land a 1/2 in round 10 is bullshit
@Seattle, Teddy asked Moorer to move and box. The strange thing about that advice is that Moorer never moved and boxed his way to victory. When he fought Bert Cooper, Moorer was on the floor twice and he didn't move away. Alex Stewart had him hurt in the 3rd round of their fight, and Moorer didn't move away. When he fought and beat Holyfield, he never moved away. Teddy failed Moorer by failing to train Moorer to move and box when they were in camp.
I don't really know why Moorer is so adamant there was no 'plan' here. His own corner was telling him about it all night, and it's not like 'I'll bide my time, take it slow and try to set him up for a big fuckoff punch' is exactly rocket science, is it? It's a pretty obvious plan. Played for, and got.
I guess I can understand the bitterness from Moorer though.
He was 45 years old walking a jeep up a hill...he was ridiculously strong...he even stunned Holyfield (and he doesn't have a glass jaw)...that knock out was not luck...even his corner told him to avoid his right...I mean the guy knocked out 68 people!!!
He was 45 years old walking a jeep up a hill...he was ridiculously strong...he even stunned Holyfield (and he doesn't have a glass jaw)...that knock out was not luck...even his corner told him to avoid his right...I mean the guy knocked out 68 people!!!
He was 45 years old and walking a jeep up a hill...he was ridiculously strong..he even stunned Holyfield a couple times( and he doesn't have a glass jaw)..that knock out was not lucky...his corner even told him to avoid his right...Foreman knocked out 68 people!!!
@tapdancingtom it was a lucky shot ..moorer just got to overconfident and arrogant .look at foremans face and the beating he took for the whole fight ..LUCK
atlas blatently sez hes lookin to set u up with the right hand but big bad moorer wasnt gonna get kod by a 45 year old who is always dangerous na course not night night
If you watch the entire fight, there were no secrets throughout. Moorer's corner knew exactly what Foreman and his camp were trying to do.
You can hear Teddy Atlas telling Moorer consistently throughout the fight "Don't stand in front of him", and "Stay away from his right... He's trying to set you up dammit". In the other corner you heard "Make him go right...set him up for the right jab."
Moorer was clearly winning the fight, but he got overconfident and it cost him.
Its hard to believe that anyone would take all that abuse waiting for a shot, Moorer denies it himself. The funnie thing is Teddy watched all formans fights and had a feeling he was waiting on a shot like that. You even hear Atls scream "he's setting you up"!
it wasnt luck and anyone who thinks that is a fool. what it was, was a guy wit a glass chin tryin to mix it up wit one of the heaviest handed fighters of all times. wrong game plan costed him. it was just a matter of time before he got knocked out and it just took til the 10th round.
I don't think it was luck, but Foreman took advantage of what Moorer gave him. With the lead he had, there was no reason to stand in front of the Big Man like that. All he had to do was box. That's why it's called boxing and not brawling. If he had boxed a little more, he would've won easy. It's not Foreman's fault he took what Moorer gave him.
I'm a boxer. and i watch this fight years ago live on ppv and i can honestly say without hate. that it was luck. the man was getting his ass whoop for 9rds. me and my family was like damn. this man is really done. the whole fight foreman was trying to land something but couldn't because the much younger moore was faster and blocking foreman punches. it wasn't till the 10rd that you can see that he was tired. because foreman was landing more. and moore was moving as much, as in the earlier rounds
@tapdancingtom just cuz ur a "champion" doesn't mean you should of been prepared. if u get tired u jus get tired man. it was luck. forman was losing the whole fight until that lucky punch. why you think its so memorable and his a part of boxing history? Moorer was in his prime, forman was past his.
@Vegeta95687 you say you're a boxer, and that you thing it was "luck." despite the fact Atlas was telling Moore "he's setting you up" for the previous 3 rounds. You said it right, Moore GOT TIRED in the 9th and 10th becaue George was landing more... so how was it luck? Moore was wearing down and george was too strong in the end. It wasn't luck. I doubt you were boxer with the contradicting comment you made.
Jim Lampley's call of "It happened. IT HAPPENED!!" is one of the most underrated calls in sports history in my opinion. It perfectly captured the feelings of the audience. We just couldn't believe that IT HAPPENED!!
In boxing, there is no such thing as "luck.' As any experienced fighter or manager and they'll laugh in your face. Everything happens for a reason. If you are leading a fight for 10 rounds and you leave yourself open at the end to be knocked out, then that means the "other" fighter was the "better" fighter. It's all part of the fight. I find it absurd to take anything away from Foreman with this victory.
Exactly. Guys that haven't box keep on using words "lucky punch". Just like when Rahman ko Lewis in their 1st fight, it was an lucky punch. No that shot was timed just like Foreman's shot was timed. On Youtube you have internet warriors that have never boxed a round in their life uses words like luck. That's hilarious.
@lorenzodemedici1 exactly! that's the punch a good fighter looks to land. Plus you have to throw the right punch to knock someone out. You can land a punch but it's not always a knockout punch!
Of course Foreman planned this. What you people don't realize is just because it was a long shot his plan would become reality, doesn't mean in his mind he wasn't planning it.
BUT, remember, you saw and heard Jim Lampley (as witness) testifying to the fact that Foreman did in fact tell him days before the fight exactly what was going to happen - AND IT DID!
So, all you who have never boxed in your life, I say Foreman backed up what he said was planned. Disagreement is only speculation.
Yeah Jim Lampley is a witness that Foreman planned his strategy all along and you still have the idiots on YOutube who wants to discredit Big George. The Youtube idiots, "it was luck!", "That was a lucky punch!" "FOreman's career was luck!"
Foreman is a lot of things. Smart or prophetic certainly isn't one of them. He would make 283,938 promises in every fight and then one would come true and he'd be like, "Bitch, Nostradamus ain't got shit on me!"
He is a testomonial to how far you can go on sure power and Madison Ave. promotion. Ask yourself this: what good does Foreman get by telling the truth in saying, "I was getting beat and I caught him with a good punch." NONE. It's better to say you planned it. DUH.
i dont think foreman planned this at all. he was just looking for a big punch the whole fight and got it. he's definitely a legend but to say that he wasnt at his best against ALI is just lame.
Michael Moorer thought he didn't plan it but he must have had some kind of plan. He's knocked out 68 guys so I think he might have had a pretty good idea. I mean you don't just jump in the ring and make it up otherwise you'd be flat footed like a bum and get knocked out like Morer did.
moorer you are an asshole whats you excuse for tua knocking you pathetic ass out in 29 seconds???????you got alot of shit pouring out off your mouth your has been piece of shit you are lower than the scum of the earth, btw what did you tell your son????did you tell him your a worthless piece of shit????????????????????
yes, he did planned it Mike. because that's the ONLY chance he has. you will know when you become forty six. you're just too young to realize it. that's all.
It's a great achievement and I doubt there will ever be a heavyweight champ as old as this, but Foreman is lying! He never planned this, it was luck. Foreman can KO a man if he hits them and he hit Moorer with a beauty.
moorer is not a dick or asshole.. foreman got lucky... he didnt set shit up... if he plan it is that why FOREMAN NEVER GAVE HIM THE REMATCH??? HE PULLED OUT OF THE REMATCH 4 TIMES IN 1995
he wasnt telling lies moorer hope you just tell your son that your a worthless piese if piece of shit lowlife scum of the fucken shit, the moorer grill? for what to fry your mothre s face in it you fucken piece of shit assholl

Perhaps you aren't smart enough to understand that, but give it a good effort, k? Thanks.

I'll tell you what Short Bus, go get some people, preferably someone a) literate and b) with an IQ over 50 to give you better material, because right now you're having a real hard time. Michael Moorer defeated himself. His trainer saw his demise before it even happened. Even now he sits there and says Foreman just got lucky. You make your own luck. George was too arrogant in Zaire but at least he learned from it. Moorer's attitude means he'll never learn anything.

BIG GEORGE FOREMAN!
NHDavid 1 year ago
people can judge foreman in the fight if they want.....,,the bottom line is,,he knocked that little punk on his ass...moorer was standing infront of foreman,,,the number one rule boxing should be NEVER STAND INFRONT OF FOREMAN! i dont know if foreman planned the knowdown,,but i do know this,, he sure as hell wasnt planning on loosing,,so what ever he (planned) he carried it out,,,nuff said!
TheNightfall28 1 year ago 3
Haha, Foreman is such a prick. It's not enough that he won the fight, he actually have to try to make people believe that he actually planned it out all along. Yeah, what plan involves getting beaten to a pulp before knocking the other guy out? Both his eyes were shut, his whole face was so swollen you couldn't see what he looked like, and he has the audacity to say he "planned it all". That win is the definition of lucky shot. He hits very hard, but that was a 1/1000 shot.

surfinaway10afly 1 year ago
well, the key tactic of George is said pretty clear in this vid which i kinda believe in, cause he knew he could take Moorers punches without getting knocked out and then play a bit soft and saving what he got to the later rounds, and Moorer think he got him under control, but what if George simply was too tired and Moorer didn´t keep standing in front of him and so on, it was a bet and it worked, just like Ali with his rope adope tactics in Zaire.
SkeksisBestSongEver 1 year ago
The big punch is the last thing a heavyweight loses with age.
Other things may dissipate with time...the stamina, the handspeed, the combinations, the footwork, the reflexes, the eyesight, even his chin may crumble a little.
But he'll still have that big punch.
andxx0r 1 year ago
A lot of fighters seem to make the same mistake with George. They circle around and pick him off, winning the fight easily, then they get over confident in the later rounds and stand in front of him trying to prove something. To stand in front of Geroge is like standing in front a train.

It's funny, Moorer calls Foreman a liar "he didn't set this up he got lucky" yet his own trainer, one of the best trainers in the sport, sat there and told him all match long "he's setting you up!"
CombatSportFan 1 year ago 2
i think george definitely planned it...maybe not 3 months in advance (duh) but definitely towards the end of the last two rounds, when he saw that moore was getting overconfident, Geroge noticed that he was just standing right in front of him, stalkin him, and he was like, i'm gonna take a few more of his punches and lure him in for the straight right cross

juancho39 1 year ago
bullshit it was a plan, he took a terrible beating for 9 rounds. joe cortez said he was close to stoping the fight. was that part of the plan, foreman knew that a 1/2 was the best chance to knock moorer out and he landed it perfect but it wasn't a plan. it was a plan the way rahmann knocking out lewis was a plan,. throwing your best punch and see what happens. but saying he planned to outboxed for 9 rounds, have his eye swollen shut, nearly get stop just to land a 1/2 in round 10 is bullshit

SumKindaNice 1 year ago
@Seattle, Teddy asked Moorer to move and box. The strange thing about that advice is that Moorer never moved and boxed his way to victory. When he fought Bert Cooper, Moorer was on the floor twice and he didn't move away. Alex Stewart had him hurt in the 3rd round of their fight, and Moorer didn't move away. When he fought and beat Holyfield, he never moved away. Teddy failed Moorer by failing to train Moorer to move and box when they were in camp.
tw69hands2 1 year ago
I wonder if he thinks Tua was lucky as well :D
reav3rtm 1 year ago
I don't really know why Moorer is so adamant there was no 'plan' here. His own corner was telling him about it all night, and it's not like 'I'll bide my time, take it slow and try to set him up for a big fuckoff punch' is exactly rocket science, is it? It's a pretty obvious plan. Played for, and got.
I guess I can understand the bitterness from Moorer though.

Vegeta95687 2 years ago
Isint it ironic that Atlas screamed at Moorer "he's setting you up" between rounds?

@tapdancingtom just cuz ur a "champion" doesn't mean you should of been prepared. if u get tired u jus get tired man. it was luck. forman was losing the whole fight until that lucky punch. why you think its so memorable and his a part of boxing history? Moorer was in his prime, forman was past his.
Vegeta95687 1 year ago

Derby14 2 years ago 4
In boxing, there is no such thing as "luck.' As any experienced fighter or manager and they'll laugh in your face. Everything happens for a reason. If you are leading a fight for 10 rounds and you leave yourself open at the end to be knocked out, then that means the "other" fighter was the "better" fighter. It's all part of the fight. I find it absurd to take anything away from Foreman with this victory.
guyfroml 2 years ago 2
That's hilarious.
lorenzodemedici1 2 years ago
@lorenzodemedici1 exactly! that's the punch a good fighter looks to land. Plus you have to throw the right punch to knock someone out. You can land a punch but it's not always a knockout punch!
tapdancingtom 1 year ago
Of course Foreman planned this. What you people don't realize is just because it was a long shot his plan would become reality, doesn't mean in his mind he wasn't planning it.
BUT, remember, you saw and heard Jim Lampley (as witness) testifying to the fact that Foreman did in fact tell him days before the fight exactly what was going to happen - AND IT DID!
So, all you who have never boxed in your life, I say Foreman backed up what he said was planned. Disagreement is only speculation.
guyfroml 2 years ago
Yeah Jim Lampley is a witness that Foreman planned his strategy all along and you still have the idiots on YOutube who wants to discredit Big George. The Youtube idiots, "it was luck!", "That was a lucky punch!" "FOreman's career was luck!"
Makes me laugh.
lorenzodemedici1 2 years ago
Foreman is a lot of things. Smart or prophetic certainly isn't one of them. He would make 283,938 promises in every fight and then one would come true and he'd be like, "Bitch, Nostradamus ain't got shit on me!"
He is a testomonial to how far you can go on sure power and Madison Ave. promotion. Ask yourself this: what good does Foreman get by telling the truth in saying, "I was getting beat and I caught him with a good punch." NONE. It's better to say you planned it. DUH.
soprisrb 2 years ago
i dont think foreman planned this at all. he was just looking for a big punch the whole fight and got it. he's definitely a legend but to say that he wasnt at his best against ALI is just lame.
TrampFormer 2 years ago
Even Teddy was saying it to him in the corner, he was telling him exactly what Foreman was looking to do and he did it.
capablemachine 2 years ago
Michael Moorer thought he didn't plan it but he must have had some kind of plan. He's knocked out 68 guys so I think he might have had a pretty good idea. I mean you don't just jump in the ring and make it up otherwise you'd be flat footed like a bum and get knocked out like Morer did.
