thank you so much for putting the lyrics in english....I always like Mrs. Celia's music even though I didn't understand what saying & her energy always makes you wanna get up & dance....now I love her even more after seeing the positive message it this song.
Celia Cruz, te quiero mucho. I'd like to thank you on making this song, it's because of this song that I get through life with full positiveness and strength, it is through this song that I conquered my cancer and live good with my Diabetes, through the downs of life and through everything. It is because of this song, it has made me who I am today, an optimistic and happy young lady. I value this song more than anything. Gracias mucho a salvando mi vida entre tu cancion. <3
These are good translations... this is my favorite Celia Cruz song. yaramaca good job on this video! Don't listen to the person who said these are not translations! They don't know anything... good work!
@MadeInDC1983 interpretations? it looked like a pretty damn good translation to me! besides, no two languages translate exactly the same! great job yaramaca!
sometimes qhen i hear this song i cry because i stop and think "wow...T-T no one makes this music anymore. all the best artists like celia cruz. and selena are right now between in 2050 will be forgotten
My mistake. I do hear the clave though it is very, very subtle. The first 2+ minute is not easy to dance to. I suppose you have to find something from the horns and then just the hold the beat.
@bunsofveal , for me it's not so much an issue with finding the beat, rather the "jumpy" character that just feels wrong for salsa dancing. It's like you hear a horse gallop or something.
@Salsa3914 : that's the whole point of the song. You're supposed to do basic steps until 2:46 and then it's time for tricks...This is the best song to dance to....Your nuts if you call this Cumbia. There is no snare drum whatsoever, no ta ta sound at all. The gallop you are hearing is the timbales being hit on the side mixed with the bongos, congas, and maracas. A cowbell is just an element of Salsa music which Puerto Ricans over use. This is true Cuban Salsa done perfectly.
@BadBoriBoy "Supposed to do basics", strange view of dancing, sure if it works but don't tell others what to do. This doesn't sound salsa to me, too "jumpy". You call this "true cuban"? It's written by an argentinian, Victor Daniel, working in Venezuela. youtube.com/watch?v=wiKtXFgUT4g, and if it's salsa, why are they dancing cumbia? This song got many people into salsa, since it's simple. Salsa is too complicated for most. Who care where the gallop comes from, it's there.
@Salsa3914 : Victor wrote the lyrics but he didn't write the song. Either way, the song falls under the category of SALSA. Ruben Blades wrote the lyrics to El Cantante, but he didn't write the song. As far as the people dancing, only 1 couple expressed movements of cumbia, the rest were dancing CUBAN style salsa. For the record, Puerto Ricans didn't create the music/dance for the genre known as salsa.
@BadBoriBoy Interesting, who wrote "La Vida..", who wrote "El Cantante? Salsa is a blanket term for a wide mix of clave based music. As for "La Vida.." being a Cumbia, those who know about these things agree with me, search salsaforums (links not working) . They are not dancing Casino, it's a simple continental latino style cumbia/salsa, and cumbia, with a lot of jumping. Have you ever heard another "salsa" with this kind of strong horse gallop rhythm?
@BadBoriBoy : Periodico De Ayer, good song, not at all the same rythm or feeling. Listen to the trumpets in the beginning of "La Vida..", you don't find anything like that in "Periodico..". Not jumpy, strong emphasis on 2 and 6, obvious clave all through, strong tumbao, very different, clearly a classic salsa. Unlike "La Vida..", which is only partially a salsa. The fact that you like it doesn't make it a salsa.
Many list this as their favorite salsa, which it is not. It's a cumbia. There's a salsa influenced part at 2:46-4:16 though. The dancing in the video is cumbia.
@Salsa3914 Yeah, thought about dancing Salsa to this. It's not easy to consistently put a 1 and a 5 on this song. If you were in a club with the base turned up enough, perhaps, but there is no clave, so it's not easy.
OMG! I <3 this song! The first time i ever heard it was when I was with my family from Purto Rico when i was like only 7 years old! (Sniffle!)Brings back so many good memories!Lol!:'-)
