  • This is remarkable - at the end of her career and one can still understand why she was admired and that she was not just a pretty face (which she very much had!). The phrasing, the thought and even the production - especially at a time when she was said to be in terminal decline. Of course there are things she probably can't do but what she can she does very effectively.

  • Her forte was French Opera, or so I've been told.

  • Personality with a capital P, and complete command of her musical means. Awesome, indeed.

  • Great soprano and actress. Pity she has been forgotten! What a film her life would make! What about that other wonderful singer, the Scottish tenor, Joseph Hislop (1884-1067)? She employed him in her Chicago company in the 1920s.
