not a favorite of mine but you cant argue with a 37 year run and a peak viewing audience of 18.8 million 295 episodes a record that will never be beaten,
Thank you so much for posting all 3 parts of the pilot episode, it isn't included in the dvd set. We must have seen every episode a hundred times over the years and had tea in Sid's cafe when we visited Yorkshire. We are originally from Lancashire and have lived in Canada for 37 years and always stay in Yorkshire when we visit. We're looking forward to seeing "The First of the Summer Wine " when it is released in June. Sad to have lost so many wonderful actors from this series.
They just started showing this on my local PBS, but they're episodes from the late 90's. The weird thing is, I think they look better now. Something about the way it was filmed or something, but everyone looks so ragged and old. It's almost as if they're getting younger as the show goes on. LOL
There is also, I think, a series pilot "First ofthe Summer Wine", and I have seen it listed on here, but have never watched it. I love THIS series so much, I don't know if I could stand seeing other actors in the roles played by my faves, Sallis, Owen and Bates/Aldridge/Wilde!
I thank you for uploading these decent comedy programs.I only get to see on PBS.And sometimes they dont show it.I find myself in Youtube quite often watching LOTSW.I love the beautiful rolling hills. And it's like theraphy.Helps me to relax.Wouldn't it be nice to retire and spend your golden years with friends like these? No violence nor graphic sex scenes.Just good clean fun.Good TV viewing has gone to chit.Even with cable there's no enjoyment. Thanks and take care.
THANKS, KYLEROB19! I've been wanting to see this pilot episode since I stumbled up on this wonderful program nearly a decade ago. I have missed it the few times Public Television has aired it. Also, I was unsuccessful in my attempts to purchase the episode. I wanted to see how it all began and how the characters looked in the beginning of the series. Thank you for posting it! I an saddened to hear of Kathi Staff's death five days ago. It was she who uttered the first words in the series.
I grow up wacthing this and I still love it but since Bill Owen and Brian wilde and the others past away its gone down hill but when Peter Sallis come on I rush to the TV... the last of the horsemen for a man in his 80's lets hope he stays on for abit longer.
man i love this show so much i cant beleve this show is still going its been on sines 1973-2008 and it started from this pilot from 1973 man this is good thanks for the uplound
I comes on Mon - Fri (save maybe Tuesday's or Thursday's when they show Frontline, or something 'till late) from 10:00 - 10:30 p.m. Central Standard Time!!! I watch it EVERY night it's on! BEST SHOW EVER!!!
Which episode was the one where Clegg warns his friends never to synchronize their watches before venturing out into a field because, from what he's seen from war movies, they'd never return?
Ordered Series boxsets 1 - 20 of last of the summer wine should be arriving in the next few days :)

Great stuff. Its fitting that Nora Batty and Compo were in the first scene. I love seeing streets without any cars!

Its sad to think that the next series will be the last, but 37 years is an excellent innings for a great comedy.

Dies 'Pilot' mead it was the first show ever. I found out in Holmefirth where the show is filmed that it started with a 'one off', Is this it?

yeah a pilot is a trial show, see whether the public take to it before investing in a whole series.

I must say that my favourite trio was Bill, Peter, and Frank. I was sorry when Bill died. All of them really....

With the death of the woman who played Nora Batty, I think the best thing to do would just to be have one last special episode and then end it.
ArticElephant 3 years ago 5
They can't do that!It is still funny. When Bill Owen died, they didn't end it.
