How ironic is it to hear this crowd's complete lack of reaction when "the fine young song writer, Bruce Springsteen" is called to the stage...DO YOU NOT REALIZE YOU ARE IN THE PRESENCE OF GREATNESS?!
This is Roselita dressed in pre-producer naivete. You are very young here Bruce. A little nervous, and obviously cute (sorry but I'm a guy) You are easy to like. Even the bridge is the rosey bridge. I love you man. Good work over a lifetime. Now, stop voting for any candidates that you see on TV commercials. Vote only for no names.
I never noticed this, but is his eyes closed the whole time he's going through this song? It seems like he has stage fright! If anyone knows, lemme know!
i was at this show and met bruce right after he walked offstage. i was having a smoke, telling bruce i had to quit. when he asked me why i replied because it was bad for my lungs, that i was born to run. when i said that he got quiet and then said, "born to run?" i said "yeah, why?" he said "oh, nothin'..."
he asked me if i had a pen. i gave him my bic red fine-point and he said goodbye.
I've recently become obsessed with Van Morrison, who I'm convinced was a major influence on Bruce. When I listened to Van's song Backstreets from his first album "Astral Weeks", I always think man, Bruce got two or three songs out of that one. He knew inspiration when he saw it.
@greerlovesgovert : Yeah, it did. Then, later, he saw me and came over and we chatted for a few minutes, but I had to leave. He asked me where I was going and I told him that I had a meeting across the river.
As for Van's influence on Bruce, it's unmistakable.
@BaronM : very funny, baron. the pleasure is mine. oddly enough, it was after the party with the black panthers, i got the guys together, arranged to get us to china, and we played doubles ping pong there. how did you know?
For what I've read, that's not actually band, it was Viny Boom but no Max W. and i think there was another guitar man and no Steve, but I have to have a look to the book again.
Taped at Max's Kansas City in NY in August 1972 -- the song most resembles the now-legendary "Rosalita," which would be released on his second LP a year later.
I was minus 6 years old - who'd have guessed this would shape my musical taste for the future? Thanks Bruce, its been an epic journey.

I'm embarrassed I never heard the 'Rosalita' connection. It's so obvious now that you mention it.
