  • My 4 year old (44", 45 lbs)started swinging* a 4kg but seems to have outgrown it. Where short of Russia can I find guidelines as a parent (who only started lifting myself recently) on pediatric sports medicine to know how far to let her go and still be safe. She has great form in deadlift and swing and also does a lot of yoga and bodyweight exercise. The next size KB I have is 12kg and I don't let her use that one. *She discovered KBs during my rehab from injury.

  • admirable effort, but serious strength training for anyone under the age of 16 is ridiculous

  • JOnmelb, You hit the nail on the head - serious strength training. My little one is capable of deadlifting well over 100kgs. I know this because of what she can do with other physical feats; yet I won't let her actively pull more than 70kgs. She could also likely jerk well over 50kgs, but I won't let her approach that weight until she's at least 14. For now, she's keeping it light and fun. But she will continue to compete in Weightlifting meets within her capacity.

  • Very nice job. It's possible that her form is as good as mine, especially on the 10th and 11th work set. ;)

  • thank you very much. I'm very proud of her. She's a hard worker and has made fitness a part of her daily life. It's only a matter of time for her.

    all the best, arden
