No, it wasn't acoustic, there were electric guitars, and its difference from this version was subtle, but real: I know because I've listened to it many times from my audiotape. I think the station, or whoever remixed it, wanted to give it a more rock, less folk, feel. A similar thing was done to Loreena McKennitt's "The Mummer's Dance," though in the case of that song the rockish version was used in the official music video, not just on the radio stations.
