and Nirvana wasn't grunge, they were pop-punk.

Nirvana sounded nothing like Pearl Jam, or Soundgarden, or Stone Temple Pilots, or Temple of the Dog or any other popular grunge bands that defined the grunge sound.

They were a self defined punk rock band, who mixed pop into their music because they thought that it would open more people up to punk rock.

They were the first Pop-Punk band.

Their sound was way too poppy to be called grunge

Nirvana was pop punk. The Pop-punk label didnt come till later, but Nirvana was the catalyst to what became pop-punk.

Nirvanas Lyrics were depressing, and they had a few really depressing songs, but their sound was for the most part really bouncy and poppy. They themselves said that they purposely tried to make their songs sound like happy childrens songs.

Nirvanas Entire Formula seems to be the formula used in pop punk. All pop punk is lyrically depressing and musically happy and bouncy.
