I don't know what friends you keep talking to or see, cos it's not me I told you so. So who ever it tis finally said something wrong. But ok, I am still upset, but I'll manage through all of it. Oh and btw. Happy birthday! Enjoy the day.
She didn't like his acting until many years later she saw Liz and Essex at Burt Reynolds house and she said she had been completely wrong about him, she thought he was just great.
They had such great chemistry in this movie- maybe they should base casting on the lead actors hating each other. the tension makes things sexy. well errol flyn was hot anyway. but WEIRD.
I just finished watching this movie last night. The performances of both leads were excellent except that it was kind of overwhelmed by all the gorgeous technicolor and costumes. I wondered if I would've been more into the acting and the story if it were filmed in black and white.
Supposedly, Bettie Davis hated Errol Flynn , and when there was this one scene where Queen Elizabeth (Davis) had to slap Lord Essex (Flynn) she had a ring on her hand and when she slapped Flynn, Flynn started seeing stars and was about to slap her back! But, then years later, when she re-watched the film, she remarked on how good Flynn was at acting, or so Oliva De Havilland says.
I saw that on Turner Classic movies...cause Bette Davis really disliked Errol Flynn and slapped him as hard as she could...he had to control his temper and when she watched it back she said he was good cause he didn't react out of character...
This film looks great in colour, as it was originally filmed (somebody find a colour trailer, please). Errol looks as dashing as ever and E.W. Korngold provides another great film score. If only Flora Robson had played Queen Elizabeth (as she did a year later, opposite Flynn), this could have been a better movie. C'est la vie.
This movie stands up even today as a pretty powerful film. The performances were incredible, especially considering that Davis publically declared disliking Flynn. It was only after his death that after watching their two films together declared that he was excellent. I think unintentionally he was a scene stealer and Bette would have loathed that!
It really is a powerful movie and I'm glad I bought it. I admired all involved for years but never saw this till a year or so ago---I give it as a gift now whenever I can buy another copy. They are all charismatic and wonderful in this unusually fine and intelligent movie.
Vincent Price is also in this movie.

Great, monumental, historical movie. Marvellous Olivia de Havilland and Bette Davis, movie legend Errol Flynn. Fantastic!

The statement "Filmed in Technicolor" appears in the trailer which is in black and white. That's a hoot!
