It is very disturbing that people still are ruining the purity of an OA tap out ceremony. Why do people need to show this to the public. And most of all, why ruin what younger scout have anticipated for years? My tap out was honorable, secret, and was a MILESTONE in scouting career. shame on you fellow brothers.
@GetScopedGaming mic o say is a copy of the order of the arrow formed 10 years after the O/A. It is only in St. Joseph and Kansas City Missouri. The few other lodges have switched over to O/A over the years.
DON'T join the Order of the Arrow, or attend the rites. It has pre-Christian roots based on paganism and Freemasonry. Do a search for John Salza Order of the Arrow for PDF expose online. There are no parents present at the rituals and hazings have occurred. BEWARE.
Our lodge (Abooikpaguun Lodge #399) doesn't allow flash photography during any of our ceremonies. If it happens to be bright enough during the ceremony for a proud mum or da to take a picture or video, then they are more than welcome to. As everyone else has said, we are not a "secret society". If someone uses a flash or even a flashlight during a call out, one of our Brothers in the crowd will approach and correct them... quickly. We train our ceremony teams to ignore it and keep going.
and second, people from other lodges need to shut their moths if they aren't going to say something nice and/or constructive. This is Scouting, we're supposed to be the best men this country had to offer, some of you are disgracing the program right now. You don't have to like what other lodges do, and should take pride in your own, but being an ass about it accomplishes nothing but making your lodge look bad. So if y'all could kindly start acting like scouts would be great. thanks!
I'm a Vigil Honor member and, ok time for something new, I'm ok with the fact that this is on here. Youre absolutely right, theres is absolutely nothing secret about tap outs, nearly everyone involved in Scouting has seen one at some point. As a History Education major, I find things like recordings good for reference a later times. You can document, rediscover things you may have done in the past, maybe even give other lodges ideas. Don't let the gray hairs tell ya whats what buddy, youre fine
This is one of the most shitty ones I have ever seen, the whole microphones ruined the entire thing. Also to keep the solimity like with what we do, there shouldn't be flash like you can notice barely in this one.
Because the progressive induction principles are not violated during the Call Out, these ceremonies are often performed at Camporees, and family nights at Summer Camp. It is the only time candidates will be publicly recognized for their being elected into the Order. Welilissit.
wow man thats isnt cool... my ceremony was a huge highlight for me... and JUST me. its not somehthing i would like to share with the world. even at the begining of the ceremony they ask that no video orpictures be taken
Although OA call outs are held infront a large group it still a sacred tradition and should be for those close to the Scouts involved, that is why it is not supposed to be recorded by video or still picture. Which ever one of the ceremony team is talking will, or is supposed to, stop if they see a flash or some one recording and say "Brothers, there has been a disturbance among us!" If the photographer does not stop videoing/taking pictures then the cremony team will end the call out.

@KingOfCatfish it may be like that in ur lodge but not in mine. the call out is an open ceremony for anyone to watch and pictures and video r fine. im a brotherhood member of coosa and theres never been a problem.....
@jlgm34 I am a vigil from Aina Topa Hutsi #60 as well as the Indian Heritage Chairman. This should not be on here, give the ceremony some reverence. It is open for anyone to watch, but not online. This is something that should be done in real life. This is a special ceremony and should not be given the proper respect by having it witnessed in person, not through the internet.
@KingOfCatfish whatsamatter, afraid that the truth will get out ? OA is a cult, the kids don't even know they are joining a cult, that's the problem- your reply speaks volumes
@tunnelportterror O.A. is not a cult. A cult has religious worship , there is no worship in the O.A. The O.A. is a national honor society with in the BSA, it helps to encourage Scouts and Scouters to live by the Scout Law and Outdoor Code as well to bring forth brotherhood among them.
The reason we do not do flash photography or videoing of our ceremonies (in my lodge that is) is to keep the event special to those who are there, but most of all the use of technology draws away from the setting.
@KingOfCatfish I was selected for the OA in 1982 in front of the ENTIRE summer camp !!!! Even the families of the scouts were invited. The Ordeal part was kept secret. Maybe it is something that your particular lodge does; so please don't put down other lodges and their traditions.
I agree with chiefs61647394. Just because you can do something, does not mean that you should do something. Why would you take the magic away from other boys ?
hey im the Lodge Chief for Talligewi Lodge 62 and am Meteu for all of our ceremonies. I saw your call-out and was wondering if you could give me some ideas that your lodge does for its call-out ceremonies. We are trying to improve our program and are looking for new things or ideas that will keep the attention of our candidates. Any information is helpful tks. BTW chiefs616 the call-out isnt safeguarded
@chiefs61647394 tap out ceremonies r not one of the secrets" of oa. tap outs r generally held in front of an entire group of scouts, as this one was done at summer camp on parents night. parents and all other visitors to the camp were invited to attend the tap out.
There are no secrets, only safeguards. The OA is not a secret society, as this would violate BSA Policy. Please be sure you understand the difference when in public forum. Any interested parent, scout leader, or religious leader may request to view our scripts or ceremonies.
Call outs are a great way for a ceremonies team to showcase their talents to the pubic. As a former ceremonies chairman of my lodge, I enjoyed showing off the quality of my team to the parents and other campers.
@tunnelportterror Actually if the parents are so worried they can ask the Lodge Adviser to watch the ceremonies and the different events, and can at anytime pull their kid from the event but he will not be able to join the Brotherhood. Trust me, if they were doing creepy stuff to Scouts I dont think millions of boys and adult men and women would have proceeded into the Order.
@tunnelportterror You have no idea what you are talking about. The BSA is extremly careful about youth protection - more than any other organization that I have seen.
Allowat needs bonnet work. Whomever built it didn't back stitch ( or they are loose) the feathers.
