Thanks for p;osting this. I had wondered about making a free standing version of one of these with it's own engine mounted on my logging trailer, but watching this vid, it seems that with gloves on (which might get caught) it looks like an accident wating to happpen. I'm not so sure now. It is also a lot slower in operation than I thought, but I guess if it was too fast it maybe would not bite into the wood? But it is a nice simple way of doing things if time is not an issue.
By the time I got eight cord split up with this I be in the hospital with a broken back and it would be spring..Gives new meaning to the term "painfully slow"
so this guy could be getting exercise and save some money but instead he is going to run his diesel and sit on his ass. Not too mention what happens when you get a glove caught in that thing?
I know these things work well, I have one. that is not the problem now. the cap and tax bill is the problem that will ban or reduce all wood stoves in the good ol usa. good luck people!
Hello, I see that this works well. I am wondering about if it from the end of log? I have a miniskidsteer and a auger attachment for a perfect screw splitter all while seated drive over to log an split it. I see alot of times log pulls on to screw with out hitting ground. I will u tube it if i do it. Or when i do it better said. People who gripe about it just have their hyd split an are happy. The fastest processor i seen used a screw with constant feed system.
Sure, go spend 1000-2000$ on a hydraulic splitter, so you can split rounds smaller than 24", and possibly get stuck on them. I have personally split 48" rounds from a maple, no problems. It may look slow on the video but it aint, I`ve done almost a full cord in a day, with only my wife moving logs out of my way. And while sitting down 75% of the time, not hunched over. And the dood with the maul... HA, pound your brains out man, good luck.
you are right. this doesnt look slow at all. it looks dangerous, but no more so than any other. ever forgotten to pay attention to the torque direction and had one spin on you, or fly off at you? i am considering returning my hyd. splitter and getting one of these.
i`ve never forgotten to pay attention to the direction, it only goes one way. I have had a log spin, yes, but thats what the yellow safety cutoff is for, it kills the engine. Never had one fly off. You need a vehicle with an open or locking diff, lsd will not work, or fwd either. Other than that, this thing is badass. I have 2more cord to split with it, gonna set up again once i make room to stack it
Speaking of the locking diff., seems like you could mount this thing to a pully reduced 18 or 10 hp Vanguard engine or the like, and run it that way too. with dual or triple belts, that would slip if there was a problem. with a kill switch to the motor too. As for the truck, you could have an assistant sit in the drivers seat and be ready to stomp the brake if you yelled... it would make using it on the truck safer.
yea a pulley system could work, but you`d need something very heavy, as the stickler dumps all the torque to the ground. If you had a 20hp motor with a 5x reducer, you could possibly have to dump 100hp, thats a lotta power. The brake idea i thought of, but the wife didnt like the idea of sitting there waiting to hit the brake.. for hours... lol. the pull cord works just as well, and kills the rotation almost instantly
I guess monitoring the brakes in the truck would be a great job for an older kid, say at about $5 an hour! I agree with you, my wife wouldnt do it either, just sitting there waiting for an accident to happen.
stickler-the best, the cheapest power splitter! I use one on a 93 nissan pickup. Ive split many a cord with it. All types of logs, nothing I cant split.
Did you hear about this guy?he is In Poland and he died from the exhaust fumes

This is one machine that is probably more dangerous to operate while wearing gloves.

I've had one for over twenty years but mount it on driver's side. You must have this rig in reverse, eh?

I've used one of these for years. Cheap, efficient. they are only as dangerous as you let them be.

be careful that the wood does not get free of the ground and spin! then you have a couple of broken hands. I would lower the truck a little.

I think your referring to the wood stoves used outside and some people burn their own garbage in them....Smoke house style or non-housed...
I have heard of idiots burning everything in them and yes they admit a high level of smoke when you do this (pollution)...
It only takes a few idiots to spoil it for the rest of us whom respect the environment...
I have a small indoor wood stove not an exterior set up like you have in your videos...Is that women in your videos an illegal from Mexico?
