As far as being a soldier, the Waffen SS were the best in WWII. They sometimes were greatly ounumbered in combat and would win with minor casualties. In the German Rheinauen the Americans let over one million German prisoners of war starve and freeze to death in American concentration camps. The biggest real difference was that these guys had smart little uniforms and a different status because they best fit into some arbitrary racist archetype that Hitler fixated on. Being Hitler's favourites meant they received many of the best weapons and assignments, but despite all this they were just a unit like any other.

part of that is true, the quality of the SS division varied. But 7 were top class fighting formations and were used mostly on the eastern front as hitler's elite army. You shouldn't mix some parts of Waffen SS which was formed from non germans, some russians, scandinacians, croats even albanians formed its own ss division. If you ever served, you must know, not everything depends on equipment. Motivation, morale, training. That what makes your enemy strong.
