I just want to know, is there anything to gain of getting anylized with this. I mean like help and an "excuse" for not beeing perfect. I haven't seen my real dad in a year (even if we had calls about if we should meet up) but as in the video, i don't really like to go out that much if i don't have to. I just realised i could have this, i thought schizofrenia was pretty much paranoia. And i have conversations inside my head OFTEN, so its not limited to what i've said in the comments.
Wow, i can relate to much he is saying, i just had to pause it when he said he likes loud music cause it blocks out reality, i have the same, and headphones dont work cause im sort of afraid that a sound outside the headphones will go unoticed... i also feel this while walking outside, i can't stop thinking about if people hear me breath or if i do something too loud or if someone would try to get my attention even though the chance would be small.

This is real. I could tell by his terminology. "Word Salad" typically happens in schizophrenic patients where they say basically a jumble of words. and Agoraphobia is the fear of being in open spaces or in a social environment, the opposite of claustrophobic.

last night i woke up to myself talking to someone or something..... i was pleading with this thing saying "please no... i will go to church i promise" i know i heard more of the conversation but i couldnt remember the rest... but when i woke up to these voices it felt like i wasnt control of my own body... i felt like this thing was bad.. its very hard to explain... i dont want to tell anybody cause i might sound crazy... .can someone tell me what is happening please!

If you can't make out what he's saying among all the voices, that's the point - many schizophrenics can't make out their own voice either. @AndrewLLFrazier My brother has schizophrenia and he is perfectly fine. He had a psychosis back around December 22nd, and for about five months, he wasn't in his right state of mind. He was MAJORLY depressed and suicidal. Not to mention violent with the paranoia he was perceiving. It was a very sad time and so stressful to my family, and terrifying. With the help of medication and therapy, he is back to his normal self and better than ever.
I'm schizophrenic as well, and i can really recognize some of the symptoms - not just from myself, but also from the other patients in the ward. He seems like a nice guy, hope he does well.

i really can't stop crying, my sister is 21 and she wasn't normal before. she was hard of hearing and last summer(2010) she started seeing "ghosts" that will come after her and "kill" her. she started being scared of the dark(for week or a bit more i think)
now she thinks that the "pope" will come to our house in the 24th(may) and that she will go to heaven.. she says to my parents "it's okay, one more week and everything will be alright" meaning she will suicide..

You would accept those traits as part of her.
Yes, she will sometimes struggle with hallucinations or delusions. You must accept them. If she says something nonsensical, then try to push past it. Understand that she may not always make sense.
It doesn't mean that she does not love you. It doesn't mean that she is not still your sister.

@Sleeteye I think your response here is terrible. The girl may commit suicide but you think this is only an expression of individuality and diversity- not an actual threat that might harm someone.
If you are thinking of suicide, or you suspect your friends or family member might be going down that road- talk to them. Get them some help. Don't just sit there and say, "Well, they are different, it is OK." The next morning you wake up to find them hanging by a tree limb...not good.
I have found through my own altered mental states, that the best thing to do when feeling bad is to wait for it to pass. Like clouds, storms and sometimes hurricanes our minds become...but if you wait long enough eventually the sun comes out again.
The psychiatric folks may be totally clueless about the how, why, where, and what to do about serious mental illness, but they can buy you some time to let the storms pass through.
@mamoea right now shes at the hospital.. she's making up words that don't make sense at all. and shes making my parents and my big sister say them. if they don't say them. she'll get very angry and yell at them to get out.. a few days ago she told me mom that my sisters fiance is a "murderer" and that he has 2 kids and he has had sex with a 16 year old girl.. obviously noone of this is true but idk where she gets this from.. her doctor says its jealous but idk theres still so much to figure out
@mamoea sorry for the late response.. its been a year now.. shes actually better than before, is the least i can say. shes on some depression medicine 400mg. keeps her from seein ghosts at least, she talks to herself most of the time. she laughs at her self sometimes, and its not from TV, its out of nowhere she just bursts laughing. she doesnt talk to doctors, idk why, shhe thinks other people are criminals and bad people and that we should not hang with them.. thanks for asking mate. appreciate
@shqiperiany It sounds like things are really tough for your sister at the moment - definitely distressing. I understand that the talk of suicide is distressing for all, but talking about it is a good thing. Be sure to let her psychiatrist/psychologist know about her suicidal thoughts asap. I don't know what country you are in but if you google 'suicide helpline' you should find a number that you can call for advice. Take care.
@halloosin8 i live in the NYC, USA. the thing is i do let her doctors know what is going on but its hard to help her when the doctors ask her " do u want me to help u" she says "no" and the doctors say that it is her choice bc she is 21. doctors are stupid! they dont understand my sister was not normal before ( she is slow, deaf, and her brain is like 6-7 yrs old kid brain,, she does not know much, she doesnt understand when u try to explain her something, u got to break it down slowly)

@shqiperiany get her some cortizol blocker. endoamp works great (phosphadital syrine). won't keep her from being schizophrenic but will get rid of a lot of the negative hallucinations and greatly reduce all stress related symptoms

How do i talk to a person a person with schizophrenia, about anything? how do i keep a person with schizophrenia busy so that she won't think of images or talk to an imaginary friend. my sister has schizophrenia. she keeps smiling a lot of times at herself. when i ask her what is it, she says "nothing, nothing" she's at the hospital right now. it hit me really really bad when my big sister told me that my sister has schizophrenia.
There is a direct link between marijuana and the onset of schizophrenia. Marijuana increases a neurotransmitter known as dopamine, which is essentially the "feel good" neurotransmitter that is released in our brain which is why when people are high they feel good. Schizophrenia is beleived to be caused by an increase of dopamine for a prolonged period of time. Excessive marijuana use in adolescent and adulthood has scientifically been proved to cause some cases of schizophrenia.
@valigurl09 This description seems to be missing something. A lot of the times I have smoked, it does not make me feel good. It is more psychedelic and seems to be a self observing trip. You are correct. i shouldn't go on public forum and blurt out facts that can be proven either way, touche. Pot does not link to schizophrenia or any other psychosis. Where did you get that info? I only refute that part because i have studied the plant before. I have seen studies show that it does but, those studies can usually be traced back to groups that are working for somewhere down the line, MSM. Some studies as i have found, need to be taken with a grain of salt. just like textbooks.
@Sailor231 I've seen a lot of studies that suggest that there is a link between cannabis use and the onset of schizophrenia. Whether it directly caused it, exacerbated a pre-existing condition, or is coincidence, is subjective. There needs to be more research into it.

Cannabis *MAY* mimic or exacerbate *SOME SYMPTOMS* of schizophrenia in high doses because it releases dopamine and inhibits NMDA activity, but only in ridicously high doses, but that's all.

there are opposing views on this topic. You can make the results point anyway you want to. Pot only helps schizo's whos use has been long term. Those who use pot for the first time on the other hand, do poorly. Cognitive skills are much better in those who have long term use. Life is stranger than fiction. You wouldn't think pot could help. So, tolerance is key. Higher toleranced users don't get paranoia and some may be kosher to drive. Body chemistry is also a determining factor.

I'm not denying that it would help them cope with problems, as they would become relaxed and docile while under the influence, but the side-effects would surely cause more problems in the long term?
@Sleeteye I have read many different articles on this study. Pot does not cause hallucinations first off. Meaning, it takes a split second for your vision to catch up with your eyes. Hallucinations are seeing something that isn't actually there. LSD for example.. Also, i highly doubt your study to be 100% accurate. You have to look at long term vs. short term users. Pot is said to make you paranoid for example. I don't get paranoid anymore b/c i'm used to it from over the years.
I'm curious to see why you say that cannabis doesn't cause hallucinations. I've looked in a few places to support your theory, and have found that it's classified as a hallucinogen in pretty much every encyclopaedia I can find. I think I understand your reasoning, but it does cause hallucinations in some subjects therefore it can cause hallucinations. True, some people might not, but chemicals react differently dependant on the person. Your rationale seems illogical.

My psychiatrist said to let people know about your problem, but everyone thinks I'm weird and my family cannot understand or take me seriously. Yes, your sister will perceive this world in a different way to you, but that doesn't alter her sense of humour, her intelligence, or her personality. She may jump from topic to topic, or do strange things that don't make sense to you.
Ignore them.
If she does something strange, then accept it. She is still there, it is still her.

@TheLegoMaster456 it is true. she does strange things like hides her underwear and when my mom tries to take it away, she says " my underwear is "history" and that God wants me to have this underwear" the underwear are dirty and she hides them under her bad.. its a strange thing to do that.. shes now on 400mg which helps her a litte but she still talks to herself like someones talking to her... she slow and she thinks other people(other than family) are criminals and we should not hang with them

@AndrewLLFrazier My brother has schizophrenia and he is perfectly fine. He had a psychosis back around December 22nd, and for about five months, he wasn't in his right state of mind. He was MAJORLY depressed and suicidal. Not to mention violent with the paranoia he was perceiving. It was a very sad time and so stressful to my family, and terrifying. With the help of medication and therapy, he is back to his normal self and better than ever.

i really can't stop crying, my sister is 21 and she wasn't normal before. she was hard of hearing and last summer(2010) she started seeing "ghosts" that will come after her and "kill" her. she started being scared of the dark(for week or a bit more i think)
now she thinks that the "pope" will come to our house in the 24th(may) and that she will go to heaven.. she says to my parents "it's okay, one more week and everything will be alright" meaning she will suicide..

You would accept those traits as part of her.
Yes, she will sometimes struggle with hallucinations or delusions. You must accept them. If she says something nonsensical, then try to push past it. Understand that she may not always make sense.
It doesn't mean that she does not love you. It doesn't mean that she is not still your sister.
She sees the world differently, that is all.

@Sleeteye I think your response here is terrible. The girl may commit suicide but you think this is only an expression of individuality and diversity- not an actual threat that might harm someone.
If you are thinking of suicide, or you suspect your friends or family member might be going down that road- talk to them. Get them some help. Don't just sit there and say, "Well, they are different, it is OK." The next morning you wake up to find them hanging by a tree limb...not good.

I have found through my own altered mental states, that the best thing to do when feeling bad is to wait for it to pass. Like clouds, storms and sometimes hurricanes our minds become...but if you wait long enough eventually the sun comes out again.
The psychiatric folks may be totally clueless about the how, why, where, and what to do about serious mental illness, but they can buy you some time to let the storms pass through.

@mamoea right now shes at the hospital.. she's making up words that don't make sense at all. and shes making my parents and my big sister say them. if they don't say them. she'll get very angry and yell at them to get out.. a few days ago she told me mom that my sisters fiance is a "murderer" and that he has 2 kids and he has had sex with a 16 year old girl.. obviously noone of this is true but idk where she gets this from.. her doctor says its jealous but idk theres still so much to figure out

@mamoea sorry for the late response.. its been a year now.. shes actually better than before, is the least i can say. shes on some depression medicine 400mg. keeps her from seein ghosts at least, she talks to herself most of the time. she laughs at her self sometimes, and its not from TV, its out of nowhere she just bursts laughing. she doesnt talk to doctors, idk why, shhe thinks other people are criminals and bad people and that we should not hang with them.. thanks for asking mate. appreciate

@shqiperiany It sounds like things are really tough for your sister at the moment - definitely distressing. I understand that the talk of suicide is distressing for all, but talking about it is a good thing. Be sure to let her psychiatrist/psychologist know about her suicidal thoughts asap. I don't know what country you are in but if you google 'suicide helpline' you should find a number that you can call for advice. Take care.

@halloosin8 i live in the NYC, USA. the thing is i do let her doctors know what is going on but its hard to help her when the doctors ask her " do u want me to help u" she says "no" and the doctors say that it is her choice bc she is 21. doctors are stupid! they dont understand my sister was not normal before ( she is slow, deaf, and her brain is like 6-7 yrs old kid brain,, she does not know much, she doesnt understand when u try to explain her something, u got to break it down slowly)

@shqiperiany get her some cortizol blocker. endoamp works great (phosphadital syrine). won't keep her from being schizophrenic but will get rid of a lot of the negative hallucinations and greatly reduce all stress related symptoms

@Menddraeda well now shes a little better. she "stopped" seeing ghosts. shes on pills i think like 400mg. she feels like people other than us(family) are criminals and bad people and that we shouldn't hang out with them. honestly i have no idea what she has, as she does not like to speak with the doctor at all.. we been trying but noones wants to take her cause of her past.. (she is deaf without hearin aids, idk how to say this but shes "slow" like her brain is like a 7-8 yr old. shes 21..)

How do i talk to a person a person with schizophrenia, about anything? how do i keep a person with schizophrenia busy so that she won't think of images or talk to an imaginary friend. my sister has schizophrenia. she keeps smiling a lot of times at herself. when i ask her what is it, she says "nothing, nothing" she's at the hospital right now. it hit me really really bad when my big sister told me that my sister has schizophrenia.

There is a direct link between marijuana and the onset of schizophrenia. Marijuana increases a neurotransmitter known as dopamine, which is essentially the "feel good" neurotransmitter that is released in our brain which is why when people are high they feel good. Schizophrenia is beleived to be caused by an increase of dopamine for a prolonged period of time. Excessive marijuana use in adolescent and adulthood has scientifically been proved to cause some cases of schizophrenia.

You are correct. i shouldn't go on public forum and blurt out facts that can be proven either way, touche. Pot does not link to schizophrenia or any other psychosis. Where did you get that info? I only refute that part because i have studied the plant before. I have seen studies show that it does but, those studies can usually be traced back to groups that are working for somewhere down the line, MSM. Some studies as i have found, need to be taken with a grain of salt. just like textbooks.

@Sailor231 I've seen a lot of studies that suggest that there is a link between cannabis use and the onset of schizophrenia. Whether it directly caused it, exacerbated a pre-existing condition, or is coincidence, is subjective. There needs to be more research into it.

@Sleeteye I don't think so. The use of cannabis has grown and grown every year since 1929 and the incidence of schizophrenia is lowered, now we're around 1%. I hope this is enough.
Cannabis *MAY* mimic or exacerbate *SOME SYMPTOMS* of schizophrenia in high doses because it releases dopamine and inhibits NMDA activity, but only in ridicously high doses, but that's all.

there are opposing views on this topic. You can make the results point anyway you want to. Pot only helps schizo's whos use has been long term. Those who use pot for the first time on the other hand, do poorly. Cognitive skills are much better in those who have long term use. Life is stranger than fiction. You wouldn't think pot could help. So, tolerance is key. Higher toleranced users don't get paranoia and some may be kosher to drive. Body chemistry is also a determining factor.

I gave a specific study for one reason: You said that 'pot helps schizophrenics' as though it was fact. I believe this is a dangerous piece of advice to give in a public forum. Yes, it may be true. But people should also be aware that cannabis has been linked to causing schizophrenia.
Personally, I wouldn't risk it.

So, considering Hambrecht's conclusions, using cannabis would not help suppress 'Positive' symptoms, such as hallucinations and delusions. Considering cannabis use causes hallucinations in high doses, why would that help their condition?
I'm not denying that it would help them cope with problems, as they would become relaxed and docile while under the influence, but the side-effects would surely cause more problems in the long term?

@Sleeteye I have read many different articles on this study. Pot does not cause hallucinations first off. Meaning, it takes a split second for your vision to catch up with your eyes. Hallucinations are seeing something that isn't actually there. LSD for example.. Also, i highly doubt your study to be 100% accurate. You have to look at long term vs. short term users. Pot is said to make you paranoid for example. I don't get paranoid anymore b/c i'm used to it from over the years.

I'm curious to see why you say that cannabis doesn't cause hallucinations. I've looked in a few places to support your theory, and have found that it's classified as a hallucinogen in pretty much every encyclopaedia I can find. I think I understand your reasoning, but it does cause hallucinations in some subjects therefore it can cause hallucinations. True, some people might not, but chemicals react differently dependant on the person. Your rationale seems illogical.

emo/special....skitz= an actual mental disorder not a need to be special. I would love to be observed as special. What I can't disagree with is that the percieved norm is unrealistic and so I can hrvest a more real aproach to life basd in true observation. peace
