A lot easier project (maybe more expensive) would be two get a good size 2 by 4, by a piezoelectric buzzer from RadioShack (10 bucks for a good one) and a clothespin and popsicle stick. You also need 2 small screws and 4 washers. Just figure it out from there :PP. It's pretty simple. And if you want to you can by some adhesive circles to put on the back so it'll stick to walls. great trigger device :) simple and direct. I would just cut the beeper out of the detector and hook it directly to the battery through the trigger device. simpler and smaller. good vid kid :) the delay was probably because of poor contact in your trigger device. make sure the wires go at angles to each other and are clean and shiney
