Knicks org.should b ashamed of themselves for not getn this man no help smfh!If he had a 2nd star with a Pippen like caliber,he'd definately have a couple rings
compared to Hakeem (imagine that duel...he would make Howard jump like a dumbass with his dreamshakes...)
compared to David Robinson
compared to Kareem
compared to Shaq
compared to Mourning
the list goes on
These were finesse centers (except for Shaq). They had this thing called TECHNIQUE and footwork. Just watch the video showing Hakeem teaching Howard...it tells you all !!
@PaulJuliusSokoloff If you watch Rodman closely on that play he has stuck his tongue out just a lil' bit trying to lick on Ewing's left ball which pokes his eye. He was homo officialy ANYWAY!!

I'm sorry but I feel it's ridiculous that people say Patrick was overrated but say Jordan was the greatest player ever. As big an impact as Jordan made he didn't average 90 points a game. Basketball is a team sport and great teams win Championships, ask the Heat if you don't believe that. If It was Pippen and Ewing and not Pippen and Jordan we might be talking about the Knicks winning multiple championships. People forget Pippens team that lost to the Knicks in 94 had a better record than Jorda
What an era in the middle. Ewing, Olajuwon, Zo, Robinson, Shaq, Mutumbo. These were real big men. I am a Bulls fan and loved their run but I always liked Ewing - the best soft tough of all the monsters.
@wizboy211 Sure, GANG raped! Rudy T's philosophy was to double whoever had the ball, which was especially the case with Ewing. Ewing would get doubled, sometimes tripled when he got the ball. What can I say? It worked. Although had Game 7 been played at MSG, we'd be talking about how Ewing defense won the NBA Championship...he did outrebound and out block Hakeem in the series, after all.
@Cainefan Yeah, but Hakeem won it. Haha, dont get me wrong, i wish ewing got a title, he deserveed it. But Hakeem wanted it more, and just played better. I persoonally think Hakeem was a better player than ewing, but everyone has their own opinions. and i really dont wana get in another youtube fight cus im arguing with this dude right now who thinks bill russell was better than Mj and another who thinks Wilt Chamberlain was better than Bill Russell. HA!
@wizboy211 Well, I respect your response, but the fact Ewing had more guys defending him is no opinion. It's the truth. It was up to his teammates to take advantage and they didn't. Hakeem certainly didn't play better than Ewing defensively.
@wizboy211 Well Ewing did outrebound and outblock Hakeem in that series, even setting a record with 30 blocks. And while I'll agree Hakeem was better after 93......Ewing was generally considered the best center in the land during the early 90's(89,90, 91,92, 93). Its hard to compare them, because when Hakeem was hitting his peak in 94, Ewing's peak was ending........largely because of his knee problems.
Unfortunately, not every great player will win a ring. Between Michael Jordan eliminating the Knicks 3 straight years, Starks' 2 for 18, and the fight in 1997, Ewing simply had a lot of bad luck.
He's neither overrated, nor were both teams similar, as I have already pointed out. Remember, this was the same Houston team that played pretty well when Hakeem was out due to injury a couple of years before. The Knicks would never have won as many games without Ewing. As I said the before. If game 7 was in NY, Knicks win. The math is simple. Case closed. Otherwise, I could make the case that Hakeem didn't have what it takes to win an NCAA Championship...right?
Ewing was a warrior , a true franchise player. He could shoot, rebound and block shots. True knick fans remember that sweet fadeway. He was deadly from 17 feet. His heart was a big as his physiacl stature and he was the ultimate team player. His teammates loved him even Barkley(even though you wouldnt know it on the court). They became real close friends.
Who cares, if he traveled or not...the refs didn't call it...so what! I think, Pat is the most passionate Center ever played...besides Zo Mourning. I miss the guys...true fighters.
@mickeyjordan, meh...if game 7 had been at Madison Square Garden instead of Houston, the Knicks would have won and everyone would be talking about how Ewing was able to break the shot blocking record for an NBA Finals (at the time), out-rebound Hakeem and score enough points dispite constantly being double and triple teamed. But, alas, was not to be.
@mickeyjordan One man can never "deliver" a championship by himself...my friend. He still ended up with an NCAA Championship and 2 Olympic gold medals. So he was no slouch.
@Cainefan Houston and New York were very similar in 94. And in other situation, he just didn´t had the stuff to win it. I am not saying he was a bad player, but he was overrated.
He and Starks were the reason why, instead I'm Spanish, my heart belongs to New York. My life was incomplete 'til the day I step on Madison Square Garden.
Yeah, some of them were travels, but you have MJ to thank for them. When he was playing, traveling calls were pretty much suspended. Would be too obvious they were only not calling them for MJ if they didn't stop calling them on everyone else.
Yeah he did. Of all the great plays the guy had in his career they picked a play in which he traveled and didn't get called for it for their list of the top plays of his career.
Its widely accepted tht Ewing was underapprecited in NYC. If any player busted his azz and played on balmy knees his entire career. Deserves a ring is him.

Great clips. The dunk over rodman. Ill never forget that game, they blew out the 72-10 bulls on national television by 30 some odd points.
this guy was made for playing basketball, one of the best players in the history of the nba, and from far the best pivot in nba, which pivot can score a 3point like him, or dunk like him...LEGEND!
They gotta bring these short shorts back! Looks like the game was better back then. No wonder Stockton kept wearing them. I bet he is still wearing them lol.
@jbbushon what shocks me is how you replied to my comment that was 8 months ago and 7 pages back. and i'm sorry, i don't memorize the NBA rulebook, so i apologize.
@LATINOTE22 I'm a Pacers fan if you couldn't tell from the two plays that I commented on. Please explain how you disagree with either of my comments. Ewing was a great player and these were great plays, just not legal under basketball rules. I'm not trying to blame him; trust me Jordan got away with a lot more.
@jbbushon HEY, YOU SAID IT, JORDAN GOT AWAY WITH A LOT MORE AND SO DO ALOT OF OTHER PLAYERS, CHECK UOT GRIFFINS DUNK ON GALLINARI LAST SATURDAY, SAME EXACT SPIN MOVE BUT THEY DON'T CALL IT BECAUSE IT WAS A NICE PLAY. THATS WHY I SAY STOP HATING. NO HARD FEELINGS THOUGH.
@LATINOTE22 Blake's didn't look like a travel to me. He is a highly skilled player with great footwork. These two plays are similar, but not the same at all. One was travel, one was not. I wasn't "hating" at all, just pointing out bad calls that went down as great plays. I'm a Pacers fan. How do you expect me to look at those plays and consider them great when they weren't legal?
Was #9 a travel?

this guy was made for playing basketball, one of the best players in the history of the nba, and from far the best pivot in nba, which pivot can score a 3point like him, or dunk like him...LEGEND!

They gotta bring these short shorts back! Looks like the game was better back then. No wonder Stockton kept wearing them. I bet he is still wearing them lol.

#9 Travel
#3 Goaltending

@jbbushon #9 was a travel, but #3 wasn't goaltending, it was on it's way out of the area of the hoop

@alithegreatest34 out of the hoop isn't the rule. Check it. Section I-A Player Shall Not:
b. Touch the ball when it is above the basket ring and within the imaginary cylinder.
I'm not against changing the rule, but this clearly would be legal in the Euro Leagues and not in the NBA.

@jbbushon what shocks me is how you replied to my comment that was 8 months ago and 7 pages back. and i'm sorry, i don't memorize the NBA rulebook, so i apologize.

@alithegreatest34 Haha, I only saw it because LATINOTE22 made the comment a couple spots below you.

@jbbushon oh haha. makes sense.

you're right on the travel. It was close to a goaltend, but the refs got it right, it was barely coming off the rim before he got it.
Lots of knicks fans remember his inability to hit the big shot, but Ewing was an amazing player and loved by the most fickle fans on the planet.

@LATINOTE22 I'm a Pacers fan if you couldn't tell from the two plays that I commented on. Please explain how you disagree with either of my comments. Ewing was a great player and these were great plays, just not legal under basketball rules. I'm not trying to blame him; trust me Jordan got away with a lot more.
jbbushon 1 year ago
