  • I love nVidia! They're the best! I have a question hoping you can answer me! at my office I have 2 mac pros with stock graphics card! we didnt select the 2 graphcis card option! now I only use one of them and one screen! I though of taking the graphics from the one i dnt use and add it to the one i do! first is that possible and if so does it add up the graphic memory! and speed! or it;s just to add more screens! thax a lot

  • Hi!I wish you can help me.

I have Mac pro early 2008(feb/2008).I have a card VL 7100 ati.Is possible upgrade my Mac Pro with this card? What black cable was that?Thank you.

  • can you put any gpu inside that is pci-e 2.0x16?

  • Any thoughts on what I should do?

  • I have this same Mac, early 2008 model. Do you think its getting a bit old now and I should get a new Mac Pro when the next version cones out?

I have the ATI 2600 video card but cannot run the latest Final Cut Pro X with that video card.

So I'm thinking of upgrading the video card to the ATI 5770 but don't want to spend the $250. if I'm just going to get a new Mac pro some time soon. I can wait and don't absolutely have to run Final Cut right now since iMovie is actually suiting me ok for no

  • Does anyone knows if it is PCIe 2.0 capable?

  • Great info video, however in last minute I change mind and got my self Radeon ATI 5870 Mac upgrade kit and I snap it in to 2008 Mac Pro ... works fantastic !

  • help

    thanks

  • Does any card work with the mac pro cause i really want the ATI 6970 on my 12 core !!!

  • Hey I am a gamer and I have a late 2008 mac pro and want to change out the graphics card for gaming what would work with the 2008? Thanks for your help.

  • getting that cable in is so hard. i already have one in there so im not sure if i can get it in. my hands seem to be to big without removing the fan if it can be removed

  • As long as there a EFI ROM on card and OS X Supports it or drivers are added. But many cards can be flashed. As far as the Nvidia 8800 in this video XFX is who made the card for Apple as many nvidia cards are

  • Can you use any graphics card with the mac pro?

  • How in the hell did you get an 8800 GT with that design on it? Did you get it straight from Nvidia?

  • Its an OEM

  • I was trying to find out how to get them aswell, the only way is to buy an OEM computer

  • @ViennaMoose

I know the card looks strange to many but nVida made all the cards for Apple up until the GTX 285 Mac made by EVGA or the 4500 Quattro Made by PNY.

I just updated my old 8800 GT for Mac Pro 32Bit EFI to a ATI Radeon HD 5870 Graphics Upgrade Kit for Mac Pro in my 2007 2,1 Mac Pro 8 Core. So we all are clear CUDA will not help with this card in 10.6 or 10.7 I like nVida ATI but 32 only or 64 only EFI found in 100% of nVida GPU's made for Mac 2010 12 core's ATI 5870 just now does 32

  • Question!

Can those cards work together? Like if I use Radeon for Final Cut and Nvidia for Crysis?

  • nope

  • @ProtonFilms Nuh.

  • Why I want to do it to mine is I want to have twice the VRAM it currently had :P

  • Do you have to install any drivers for the video card?

  • When u do updates it installs all drivers for that mac - so when u do a upgrade the driver is already installed

  • Hey I have an early 2008 Mac Pro with an Nvidia 8800 GT. How can I upgrade by installing an extra card identical to this one in the available 16x slot? Where should I plug in the extra card's power cord?

Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

  • Ok, I have a 2008 Mac Pro and was wondering if I can get full opencl capability under the ATI Radeon 4870?

  • i wish iMac's were upgradeable :(

  • @Tbone00095 They are. It's called a Mac Pro!! :)

  • I have an early 2008 Mac Pro with a 2600XT and have ordered Snow Leopard. Will Snow Leopard work with my current graphics card?

I'm considering getting a new graphics card but Apple has removed the 8800GT upgrade kit from their website. I have a friend who has two spare but they came from a Windows machine and so I believe I have to flash them... but I don't really know what this means or how to do it. Is it simple to accomplish?

  • wtf???

why didn't you just upgrade to the latest video card like the GTX 285 or at least the ATI 4870.

8800 GT very old card bad choice

  • Indeed it is an older generation card but all I am looking for is full OpenCL support in Snow Leopard so the 8800GT was perfect at half the price of even the 4870. Now if I was a gamer the story would be much different.

  • i think he should upgrade to a windows and stop with the expensive slow mac shit

  • lol

    you no mate do you?

my 2009 8 Core mac pro will make you quad core i7 or what ever you have look like a toy

    Geekbench score 17000!!!

what do you get!!! HA!!! Slow my arse!!

  • cool what r u gonna do with all that power open the dashboard render a movie lawl

  • 2600 HD PRO (in the older iMac's) is just underclocked 2600XT.

  • Great video the 8800gt is awesome

  • I'm also upgrading my GPU in my Mac Pro i'm getting rid of my 512MB Geforce 8800GT and upgrading to a EVGA Mac Edition Nvidia Geforce 1GB 285 GTX that was just release this month

  • Thanks to everyone so far for the nice comments. Skyline, that is an awesome upgrade. I was able to get this card for a good price off of someone who upgraded to a 285 GTX :-) Enjoy!

  • great video Chris very informative

  • Cool video. If I ever get a Mac Pro I am going to get 2 graphics cards so I can run more than two monitors.

    5/5
