  • Both great artists with one of Fats signature tunes. Looks like a great concert.

  • I still remember watching this as a kid and we were told it was live with Ricky Nelson and Fats Domino..then half way local news anchors came on and admitted that the concert was recordeded and announce that Ricky Nelson had died in a plane crash a few hours ago in Texas.

On another note I love all the saxes from this concert and that is what made me want to start playing.

  • "Rick was the headliner???" really? at that point??? He can thank his Mom and Dad for his status.... Fats on the other hand was a legend THEN due to his own talent

  • The great Herb Hardesty on sax~

  • Wow, nice video. Anyone know who did the sax on this? No slouch, obviously.

  • 8.6>

  • Love that sax!

  • Now that's music my friends

  • Um, reality check: Nelson isn't being "humble" or "a gentleman" by giving Fats Domino the spotlight here. Domino *wrote* the *song* and was one of the people who started rock and roll. What Nelson is doing is simply common decency; he's giving Domino his due.

Remember, Nelson may have sold more copies, but he paid Domino a royalty on every one he sold.

  • Nagyon jóóóó!

  • Each one of them had a hit with this song.

  • Rick was the headliner, but he was so humble he let Fats have the spotlight.

  • Let's not forget to mention the great Herb Hardesty on tenor sax!

  • @postatility Thanks, man, I only knew people like Dave Newman and Don Wilkerson.

  • Truly an Imperial performance(ha,ha)

  • hello again james. i like the youtube comment thing. search for the lyric in that 3 kings day song i put on mionize for a lyric that wouldn't exist 'without you' <---CLUE BOI.

  • They both made each other better with this song!!!!!!

  • come....and hear!

  • Fats Domino did a song way back in '49! wow, maybe the First rock n roll hit.

  • Ricky was just in awe of his idol. He did the song on Ozzie and Hariett when he was about 8 years old. Give him a break!

  • Oh hell yeah! this is as good as it gets! thank tiy for posting this

  • I really liked this. Didn't think I would. Looking for 50's songs to sing harmony and this is a winner! Key was a little low for Ricky, but I know that feeling. I think he did great, considering.

  • no offense to Rick Nelson but he 1.) looks out of place . 2.) doesn't know the words although his harmony is good. 3.) he is "fluff" to this performance yet his name gets top billing.

Flam if you'd like but its true. still a great performance....by Fats

  • @Blyss

I was never a big Ricky Nelson fan but he was a lot better than the Pat Boone's of his time. But your comment is a bit haughty I think: How does he look out of place; everyone on stage is dressed with jackets and he was guesting. But "doesn't know the words" can't be right, as "I'm Walkin'" was a smash hit for Ricky Nelson that launched his singing career. Nelson had a huge following also.

  • @trumpsahead - "huaghty" might be a bit extreme. Not going to rebut or defend my statements any further than that.

  • @Blyss

Yeah, maybe it was. Forget I said that. Sorry.

In any case, the times they are achanging . . . for the worse, er, worst.

  • @trumpsahead lol. All good and, I agree.

  • Rick Nelson harmonizes with Fats absolutely perfectly; blends in with a nice tight harmony, and then otherwise let's Fats' voice come right out in front in the mix, just the way it should. This is perhaps the best version of this song I've heard.

  • R.I.P. - Ricky !

  • Rick Nelson looked out of place there.

  • grande lee allen

  • Honey for the soul. This music can save the world, not the new styles!

  • Just remember Ricky Nelson came from the same era as elvis and TV was not allowed to show anything below the waist. So all you young people know this is the reason you don't see "Dances" by some of these stars.

  • Fats Domino - a true king!

  • he should've done that little dance he did when he was 16!

  • @omarskats3000

hey !! how fabulous !! can u post tyhe "little dance" u r referring to ??

  • @ceaserdd it's already on here. you can find him singing I'm Walkin', and the episode of Ozzie and Harriet "Ricky the Drummer" it's a verry cute episode.

  • What a great clip, one I have never seen before!! Thank you for allowing me to seeit !! Great songs & great singers!

  • Aw!! Even though Ricky's version sold more copies, because he was such a gentleman, he totally gives Fats the spotlight!

  • @Goldilocks417 sold more copies because he was a cute white boy

  • @hah13 I didn't say Ricky sold more copies because he was a gentleman, I was saying he was a gentlemen for giving Fats the spotlight in this performance.

  • @hah13 By that time, people were buying more records than before.

  • I'm trying to kill two birds with one stone . If you click on either one you win! let's all appreciate nostalgia thanks to facebook.

  • This needs cliff richard.

  • R.I.P Ricky Nelson...... Really a true treat to see. So sad to have dies so soon.....

  • What year is this?

  • @TheDicamillo Rockin' With Rick & Fats captures an August 22, 1985 concert that teamed these two legends. Nelson delivers over a half-dozen songs including "Travelin' Man," "Garden Party," "Hello Mary Lou," and "That's All Right." Fats serves up rollicking versions of "Blueberry Hill," "Ain't That a Shame," "I'm Ready," and more. The two join forces on "I'm Walkin'

You can find it on amazon.com

  • AWESOME! Great harmony! Thanks for sharing!

  • Ricky The only white boy on stage!! LOL Gotta love it GREAT STUFF!!

  • I am a youngster being a child of the late 1960's but can tell I got addicted to Ricky Nelson's music in the past 2 days...and boy oh boy listening to this video with Fats Domino was just AWESOME!!

  • As a wee London boy......Fats blew me away....back in 1958....and still does.

    God bless the MAN !

  • @bobbybyxby He hit me around 1960 with 'When The Saints Go Mochin In', in that Louisiana accent. I never fully recovered.

  • You the Man Fats!!

  • Brilliant!!!!!!!

  • Love it ! Great duo

  • I was born on Ricky Nelson's second birthday, and my name is Rickie. The world lost another great talent, far too soon, with his passing.

  • I love everything about this version. The song, the artists, the movements, the facial expressions, the harmony, the music, the solos, the balance, the audience, the tempo, the key...It all comes together to form the absolute "perfect" performance. Beats the hell out of "music" today.

  • This is just a major treat. Thanks!

  • Love Fats Domino brilliant musican

  • Dabi Tibor Im Walking!!!!!!

  • What Fats have maked realy big are his simple lyrics. He used never complicated lyrics.Everybody can always empathize in his songs. He is such and nice and wonderful person. "I'm walking" was actualy one of the first records that have an "fade out" on the end....

  • @miguellahous . Where are you from?I can teach you proper English.

  • @kingboi4756 hey hello I am from Belgium,here Dutch.Is so bad?

  • The vastly underrated Rick Nelson. Bob Dylan devotes several paragraphs in appreciation of his east style.

  • Fats Domino, really did make the best Rock 'n' Roll, "ain't that a shame', 'blue monday', 'blue berry hill' it defines the genre, best songs ever for rock at least... and many more.

  • LT1HILLINGHOE you are showing your age....or lack there of. Ricky was Rockabilly before the teen idle thing and went pop. You just haven't heard enough of his stuff. And good it is. He didn't have a very strong voice but it was very good.

  • @pilotdon50

Ok, name a Rick Nelson Song before the Teen Idol phase then where Rick is Rockabilly, what are we saying? Travelin' Man? Hello Marilu? What???

  • geil

  • Gr8 tune & video! King$.

  • What a great, great band. Both Fats and Ricky had big hits with this song. It's so great to see them singing it together. Young Americans in the 50's seeing this kind of thing is what helped get integration moving - Both cultures digging the same sounds.

  • nice

  • geez ricky really phoned that performance in wow....... Fats rules forever

  • I watched the Ozzie and Harriet show from it's inception on tv. On one episode, Ricky signed up for a high school talent show. He sang "I'm Walkin" and was a big hit. That started his career. I didn't know that he did the song with Fats til I saw this. I'm glad he did.

  • Don't forget the Man with the Golden Horn: Herb Hardesty!

  • happy bday fats I luv you

  • Happy Birthday Fat from Los Angeles California

  • You can't defend Ricky Nelson with record sales figures. There is absolutely no correlation between talent and how many records an artist sells. The best example of that is 50's teen idol Fabian. He couldn't carry a tune if it had handles but he had two things going for him: he's white and good looking. Singers like Ricky Nelson and Pat Boone stole from Fats Domino's and Chuck Berry's music and had hits just because they were white and got radio airplay...which black artists couldn't get.

  • Those you call thieves, on the basis of not writing the songs they sing or not having purely original styles, come in come in all colors: Most recording artists. Fats is one of a select handful. It's no insult to say Fats is a level above Rick, but Rick's music lives on, long after Fabian, Pat, Bobby. His records are good, R&B sung w/a low-key cowboy-crooner style more like Gene Autry than rock 'n roll. There's no arguing taste. If you honestly don't like Rick's records, fine.

  • Yes - and let's face it, if Fats was singing w/him - he was good, since Fats was TOPS!

  • Loved them both so much. Got to see Fats (and shake his hand) at the Hilton in Vegas, and Ricky at Magic Mountain in southern California. We danced to Fats' music when I was a kid, but I was "in love" with Ricky (LOL)....Big time fan with his photos all over my bulletin board...

  • never heard of em untill i saw a vid telling me about him hes a good singer

  • This is timeless music

  • for you guys who don't like ricky nelson, shame on you. you don't know too much about music. Nelson was the 2nd biggest rock n roll act of the 50's. according to record sales. 3rd being the Everly bros. He Must Have Some Talent! Give credit where credit is do.

  • Of course he got the short end of the stick. He had no business on the same stage as the great Fats. He was a teen idol only because his father had a TV show and because he was so good looking. Very little talent.

  • I agree 100 per cent.

  • @tortolafan When it comes to performing with Fats, I bet Ricky would have been the first one to agree with you. He was so obviously out of his league here. As far as Ricky goes, he was really a talented musician. But his overbearing, controlling father directed every aspect of his career. Without Ozzy Nelson's intrusion, Ricky could have been really great.

  • Comment removed

  • Seems like Ricky kinda got the short end of the stick in this video

  • Does anyone know where or when this concert was recorded? Was it maybe on tv's "Solid Gold" program?? Is a tape available of the entire show? Thanks, Kenny C.

  • OH, my! What I wouldn't have given to be in the audience on this one! Amazing..shivers down my spine!

  • The sax player is the bomb!!!

  • two greats

  • Just great..who is that on the sax?

  • FATS WASN'T IN MY TIME BUT HE IS GREAT

  • The King of Swamp Pop and the King of Rockabilly together... what a combo!

  • @GumboRon Ricky Nelson was defintely not Rockabilly. Rockabilly was Elvis during the Sun Days. Nelson was teen idol pop. Nelson was great but not Rockabilly.

  • @LT1HILLINGHOE

I'd even say rockablilly is more precisely people like Johnny Burnette, Jerry Lee Lewis, more precise than calling Elvis rockabilly, some of his stuff might be..

The guy who sang Be Bop Lula , Gene Vincent I think, that is real rockabilly, even some early Johnny Cash could be called Rockabilly I think.

  • @raleighgranprix

Sam Phillips, Carl Perkins, Jerry Lee Lewis, Roy Orbison, Johnny Cash, John Fogerty and others wouldn't agree with your youngster not based in fact ideas.

  • @GumboRon Haven't heard that saying before but yes, you're right.

  • No Taximan55, I'LL take the blonde at 2:50. That "look" was very, very popular (especially among guys) back in the early to late 70's. Alas, times--and styles--change!

  • great combination love the music

  • Thanx !! That's wonderful!! Fats always brings good mood, even on grey autumn days !!

very special ; this performance with Ricky !!

    May God bless him !!

    Thanx again+Best Regards !!

  • Only seen clips of this in the past. Thanks for posting! Great stuff.

  • I'm Walkin' in an Aids walk and ride Saturday October 10 in Indianapolis. This is our theme song -- donate if you can !

  • Wear a raincoat.

  • Ricky's first hit was Be Bop Baby on Imperial.

  • Ill Take the Blonde at 2;50 NICE!!!!

  • I agree Ricky got dissed on this version. All he does is harmonize with Fats. The sax man is

    even more important.

In an odd way this is Ricky's second hit, because the other side "A Teenager's Romance" charted first and reached a

    higher position (#2) than I'm Walking (#4).

The record company considered 'I'm Walking'

    the B side

  • Man, ricky got dissed in this song

  • Ricky's 1957 cover version of Fats' hit I'M WALKIN' was his first hit.

  • Maybe cause they were on the same label.

  • WONDERFUL SONG!!! Ive grown up to it and thats right here in Sweden :) You must love this song. It Makes you feel happy.

  • Muy buén Video, con mucha performance, buéna musica y y buenas voces, buéna continuacion!!Saludos desde Frància

  • Really a great song!

  • Great Song! Great Performance!

  • It still saddens me to see Rick Nelson, knowing that he is no longer with us. I was devastated when he was killed. Truly one of the icons of early rock. I had the pleasure of seeing Rick in concert and he was a true gentleman with his many fans. We have lost a great talent with his passing.

  • I remember that when he died the newspapers accross America "reported" that an explosion due to drug use caused the plane to crash. This was front page stuff. Then when it was discovered that a malfuntioning heater was the cause and that no drugs were found on the plane they buried the story in the back pages. Bob Dylan and John Lennon were two of his biggest fans.

  • where can I get a dvd of this whole show?

  • i got one from sears on line store. it's not the whole show, though.

  • AWESOME!!!! :)

    -Amanda

    :)

  • when i see this im missing louis armstrong

  • Two of my very favorites, I like the way way Rick defers to Fats and sings harmony.

  • I have to keep coming back to this video; it's better than oxygen!! The young girl pictured at the end of the second sax solo sums it all up! There's something " about "Fats " Dominoe! grandmasterflash, thank you for posting this; We all owe you one!

  • Ricky must be in cloud nine performing w/one of his idol
