I was doing an audition and I couldn't get myself to cry to save my life. But i saw this video helped a lot! I thought about my parents divorce (which I don't think about cuz it makes me cry..but duh) and I totally cried at callbacks and got the role! thanks a bunch:)
I've always wondered about crying in acting and you put it so well Paul, I finally got around to looking it up this morning and couldn't have hoped for a better explanation of the process! Thank you so much!
@KingEdwardCullen well i dnt know if this will really help but you can try to keep your eyes open (dnt blink) u should feel the water build up in your eyes hope it kinda helped :)
thanks i usually bring out the tears wit my friends to see if it works but they start laughing which makes me laugh and i have to start again its also very useful when my eyes are dry
@ivana12340 im exactly the same as u! i was coached to bring my emotions out for a specific scene, rehearsing in my room, and to talk and shout etc to a pillow or object in my room, and its really believable but i just find it so hard to do it on stage etc, this mental block just appears and i cant act! i find it easier and helpful to act out a scene from a movie u know really well infront of a mirror, u can see ur facial expressons reflect!
Hey! Im Shannon and Im a young wannabe actress - I'm very serious about it and im constantly trying to build up my resume. So I often go out for local theater productions - one I'm currently auditioning for is the Princess & the pea.
Its something the Missoula Childens Theater is traveling with. I have the audition coming up very soon and even though they don't have things really as serious as having you cry I found this extremely helpful! thank you so much! I would love more tips from you!
Yes, exactly. I talk about the bodies orchestration and reaction to a memory-pain, sadness. I'm doing a whole section on Sense Memory, so this was more like a simplified version about recall using crying as its specific focus and pointing out the difference between the act of crying and truly connecting with a memory. When writing these tutorials I had to keep in mind a younger audience and keep things upbeat and easy to understand.I appreciate your question, Thanks -Paul
thx, paul, thats very cool. hey please please help me with something. when i act in commercials i encounter often a challenge.. you got to stand at your place on the scene mean while it takes a billion years for lighting etc to be ready... so you start to tire and then so long has passed that when they go 'action!' things want to come out robotic. lol what to do then?
Unfortunately, only highly paid actors have stand-ins for those mundane lighting periods. So practice that exact scenario at home. Pretend you are "switching" from stillness to action. Remember, every part of acting requires concentration...you have to be able to emote on cue. I call it the "dive." Dive right in as you would into a cold swimming pool. Your body automatically adjusts to the temperature. The minute you hear "action" dive right in..all senses on. Good Luck, Paul
