I remember going to a flea-pit cinema in London to see this movie back in the 70's.
I have somewhere an old bootleg record of the sound check of the Experience for this Maui concert(s) where he does another version of Hey Baby (Land of the Rising Sun), very poor recording, but Jimi Hendrix never-the-less.
1:35 The essence of Jimi hendrix... he didn't use to play his guitar to express music... he used to play to express his soul and his life... pure magic...
ah, beautiful chords...thats Jimi. Sounds like embryo of the Jimi's song - "Drifting"
What a songwritter... it's not only about burning guitar, playing behind the neck, etc. He is like the Beatles or Pink Floyd or Led Zepp. Every song he made is good , original
JIMI HENDRIX CONNECTTION TO CHEMTRAILS-PURPLE SKIES-PURPLE HAZE

Here is the proof thatbrings this subject to the realm of ‘ Fact’ They are spraying Barium & Aluminum into our skies to controlthe weather & our health! ‘Weather Modification Bills passed toCongress in order try and make this Orwellian population control
yeah i have read and heard of that shit and it really really depressed me one night and i almost stopped thinking positive. but somehow i stopped worrying about it (not that i dont care about it!!!) if its true, its made of some very poor and primitive souls on this earth. it would be a lack for everyones health.. i believe in rebirth, and that all souls are immortal, we are all here to learn, but we dont have to worry, even after death. jimi believes that too..
one day were all gonna die here. and it doesnt really matter for the rest of the universe if our planet and species is gonna make it or not. AND: the innocent has nothing to worry. i think if you are a good and pure soul, full of love, you will be able to move on. Everyone will move on after this level.. Jimis Music is so timeless, it brought me thoughts about the love of life, independent of the lyrics in it. I think hes still around ;) sorry for talking so much.. LOVE!!!
JImi brought the guitar into a new realm which inspired the effect boards we use today. The use of the Univibe on this tune is just one of those magical inspiring tones that has always brought me back to the spontaneous genius of Jimi the improvisor. His feel and touch and ability to just play music spontaneously is what younger players should be trying to pick up not just copy, copy, copy. A unique magical musician that only comes around once in time. Drugs, are means to an end, a quick end.
@CarvinTone Well said. Although he was always under control with his drug-use, strictly only used hallucinogenics to open his mind. The music business killed him
@slipstream18 Have you ever actually seen the movie? It's the biggest piece of crap ever produced. It's only redeeming quality is the Hendrix concert footage.
@slipstream18 that's what happened to the Romans. Their great and civilized world conquering empire eventually fell in large part to decadence and a false sense of security.
I love that guy at 1:08. He's just groovin with his umbrella. The footage from 1:00 to 1:06 looks out of synch because it's from a different part of the concert but the rest of the footage is in synch. The whole movie is poorly edited.
The master at his craft. Man those people were lucky. I got to visit the house near that concert, you know the meditation center a few years back. The caretaker said the field were the stage was is overgrown with pines now. Jimi really ripped this concert out. The Hawaiian vibe definitely assisted his mood and playing. There really is a glorious power and trascendence to his playing as if peeking into a higher dimension. There will never be another Jimi Hendrix. His music still mesmerizes...
i also don't like bands that try to sound like the old days :P thats a failure, just do what comes natural and do not dress or act like the 60s thats so fuckin stupid
this was when music was made to give pleasure, spread happiness,,just have a good time... no bullshit like todays mess.. and this is why Jimi Hendrix will go on forever. music with a simple message.

@CHUCKLOVES1969 Well there where good and bad things back than, now we can't complain :P people complain to much , back than hendrix wasnt even that populair .
@xSnoweyexp Well i always heard he wasnt as famous as he is right now maybe in the US but definately not outside the US. I know a writer from the Netherlands , i know him personally actually and he also told me that Hendrix once slept at his place because he had no place to stay :P
As a collector, I've always heard the rumor of a third set that was played, yet all we have" are tapes of two sets. Was there a third?
Melinda Merryweather(directly associated with the making of Rainbow Bridge and shared some time with Jimi while he stayed on the island of Maui in 1970) - Yes, he played three 45-minute sets. In between sets we all played in this sacred Hopi tent we had next to the stage. I wish I knew where a lot of that footage was today. Somebody else asked me that.
It could have been so much better, (for his fans today I mean). The footage and sound were rubbish, and thats why Rainbow Bridge album was mostly studio. Zodiac signs were far out but like Jeffreys footage of Berkley in May, Chuck Weins footage was disappointing. Jimi loved Maui but as usual when he had no input others took control. Mitch had to do all the drums in the studio after this.
There was only one concert, but as I remember it there were three sets. I don't know if you can see on the current video tape, but everyone Om'd before Jimi went on stage. Jimi then played a note for each zodiac sign and then he merged them altogether. People were literarily crying when the concert started. It sounded like cellos, then it sounded like violins, and then it sounded like a harp. It rose and then it fell like a full orchestra.
Then out of nowhere comes Billy with this slow funky bass. Jimi then walked up to the mike and started signing "Hey gypsy baby ... " The power of the music was incredible! He was in unbelievable form that day. He loved the whole thing. The concert was a full-blown, three-dimensional, no-one-gets-out-without -being-touched performance. Jimi was and still is the master without a doubt.
i could start an epic rant about how awesome jimmi is but ill safe me the time typing it and possible readers the time reading it so im going to say 'awesome song L'
look at this, no security guards no unnecessary barriers separating Jimi from the audience, no ones getting harassed and nothings being damaged. Just a group of well behaved individuals who are solely their for the music.
oh shit, broke out the flyin V. trust me, he just playin around this is nothing compared to what he can and wanted to really do. Praise Jimi. This was a beautiful masterpiece. Punk bitch Michael Jeffrey you lucky you ate it in a plane crash before i got to you.
@atl2maryland I think Jimi would be the first to tell you he was not from this galaxy! He was well aware of it all, and that he had only a short time with us.
How can this kind of drug induced happiness be illegal? I mean it's one thing to not be harming ones self but to be in love with everyone and everything around you like these people seem to be should be a basic human right, drug induced or not.
@buskerbuoy in a historical the movie is good. the bus trip the chick took was interesting. the hippies and surfers doing there thing in a big mansion in hawaii. its cool. not the best but wtf
@FREDDY81FUNES maaaan, tell me about it!! im 17, but its like im 50 or 60 cus i hate todays music, back then is where its at!!!!! orr, where it was :/
The good ol' days before the "Pepsi stage" or the "Budweiser tent" or any other corporate bullshit. I bet nobody got hassled or had to look over their shoulder if they snuck some party favors into the show.
The best music takes you into another world, another space. That's what this song does for me. Search out the boolegs, he played it often in 1970 with some very amazing, jazz and flamenco inflected solos. Mitch Mitchell has said this is one of his favorite Hendrix songs and when you think about what he is comparing it to, that says a lot.
Watch 'the Dick Cavette show' performance, I think he does Purple Haze with an SG with two humbuckers.......sounds like him to me :D I agree though jimi was stratocaster. Peace!!!
actually it was his closest bodyguard or roadie person of some sort saw a flying saucer that came out of the volcano whilst Jimi was performing..maybe he was on acid.
The drums were recorded, but improperly. The entire thing WAS filmed but has been lost for years and sadly may never turn up. This footage is from the crappy Rainbow Bridge movie. It's a mess of a film, but worth getting for the Hendrix footage, even though it was terribley butchered in editing.
The Audio and video in this are not synced up with each other. Also Jimi only used the flying v for his second set at maui and he only played hey baby during the first set
Oh shit how GREAT!!!!!This scene, this music,this........ -JIMI HENDRIX - my hero!!!!!!!

Listen to his performance of Hey Baby in Sweden on the 1st of September 1970. You can find it on Youtube. It is astounding.

Mitch Mitchell has said this is one of his favorite Hendrix songs and when you think about what he is comparing it to, that says a lot.

actually it was his closest bodyguard or roadie person of some sort saw a flying saucer that came out of the volcano whilst Jimi was performing..maybe he was on acid.

The drums were recorded, but improperly. The entire thing WAS filmed but has been lost for years and sadly may never turn up. This footage is from the crappy Rainbow Bridge movie. It's a mess of a film, but worth getting for the Hendrix footage, even though it was terribley butchered in editing.

this sounds like a great version of the song too. that's too bad. hopefully it will be found!

IF we're lucky, Experience Hendrix has gotten a hold of it...And will release it within the next 200 years.
Alas, at least we have the audio....We're used to audio-only by now.
SteadyHaze 2 years ago
I don't think Experience Hendrix will ever release the CD of the concert unless Janie is desperately for money.

The Audio and video in this are not synced up with each other. Also Jimi only used the flying v for his second set at maui and he only played hey baby during the first set
