  • Good acceleration. Does this 200hp grand prix accelerate better from a stop or from a roll? What is it's strong point that is.

  • @373axle I think from a stop, not really sure. I traded this car in a while back, have a 2008 Cadillac CTS now.

  • @KatsukiLennox The CTS is a nice step up from the Grand Prix. I recently drove the STS V6. I loved it's handling. It was so flat in corners. The acceleration was quick too.

  • @373axle I've driven the STS V8 AWD and I do wish I had bought that car, but honestly, I think the CTS V6 is faster ;3

  • are these quicker than the 97-03 models?

  • @imserious2187 I believe so.

  • @KatsukiLennox no way

  • @KatsukiLennox actually there is no difference in speed. just styling

  • Very nice gotta love ur 3.8s

  • Base 200hp is more than enough to get in trouble with. As long as you have the remote start option and the dual exhaust so you know when it starts up you're all set. Happy with my 2005 GT2 with heated leather also. Do I wish for a supercharger or the v8 sometimes? Sure, but once that passes I'm glad I got the base engine.

  • hey whats the difference between a GT and a GTP wich one is better?? ima get a GTP but i just want to knw wich one is better...

  • @pps91 GT (or GT2) is a step up from the Base (or GT1, the name depends on the year). GTP is a step up from GT(2), which adds a supercharger good for an additional 60HP, and I think standard TAPShift (paddle shifters). The GXP is a step up from the GTP, gaining a 5.3L 303HP V8 engine. If you have the option, I'd suggest the GXP. Especially since it has an LS4 engine and not the Series III V6.

  • @KatsukiLennox alright thanks !!

  • @KatsukiLennox the gxp is a step up from the gt when the gxp came out the gtp became the gt

  • @KillaPontiac Yes, but for the 2005 model year (like this one) there were four trims: Base, GT, GTP, and GXP. Then in 2006 they basically removed the GT and made it Base, GT (formerly GTP) and GXP, then again in 2008 they dropped the GT and had Base and GXP.

  • @KatsukiLennox In 2006, they popped a supercharger in the GT, so instead of it being GT1, GT2, GTP, and later GXP, the GT became equilvalent to the GTP so they stopped the GTP production. In 2006, the order went Grand Prix (Base, not quite as cool and the 2004-2005 GT1 because of no dual exhaust, but it is the same deal), GT, and GXP.

  • @KatsukiLennox only thing that's kind of a downer bout the GXP is the FWD. Same with the newer generation impala and monte carlo SS's

  • @anteeboy I totally agree.

  • @anteeboy it is but its good for the winter too bad they didnt have both

  • @pizzaisgood14 I'm not convinced that FWD is any better in winter. I've had three RWD cars and two FWD ones and had about the same experiences every winter. RWD is better for performance, since it gives you more grip when taking off, and also, if you spin your tires with RWD, you don't always lose your steering. ;)

  • @pps91 gtp if ur planning to do lil racing, it will hold its own

  • i dont understand all i have on my 01 is a hi flow cat and no mufflers and its quite a bit faster than this one

  • that was a really slow take off my base model 06 does it in 7.5

  • 3800 series is bulletproof, great engines.

  • @MoAoX As much as I'd hate to, I have to disagree to an extent. This one had a TON of problems for me, and my boss owned TWO vehicles in the past year with GM 3800 engines and BOTH engines died on him. I'm hoping I just had one instance of bad luck with this, and that it's not the engine itself.

  • You can disagree, I don't mind, but there's 3800s that run well past 200k, so it could go either way I suppose.

  • @KatsukiLennox yeah no effence either but uh 3800 series 3 blow balls lol series 2 is the series that rapes and got the reputation of being bulletproof

  • @5secret Then explain my manager's TWO different Series II-based cars dying on him lol

  • @KatsukiLennox well im taking it he got the second one from the same place or same area meaning maybe when produced had a faulty line that failed eventually or maybe the jackass used wrong viscosity of oil idk and idc mine should of done blown up by now and hasn't so im throwing it the bulletproof badge. But do elaborate on what went wrong with your bosses engine.

  • @5secret I have a 99 GTP and 2004 GTP CompG. They are both great cars and have combined miles of 300k without any issues. Why is the Series 2 better than Series 3?

  • @VivaLaBamEpisodes or more about abuse man series 2 will take it all day long for years and i watched a series 3 blow up after a week with 400 miles on it xD lol but it just depends what you want speed wise series 2 wins everytime durability they are the same unless you are abusive in which series 2 will last longer

  • @5secret friends series 2 misfires like no tommorow had 150 000km when it started to fuck up never abused

  • I love mine!

  • Gotta Love that 3800 V6. Best engine around.

  • @wildman00sax Yeah, until it starts misfiring on ya like mine has been ^^; It's been in the shop for 3 weeks =(

  • @KatsukiLennox

Why is it misfiring? Spark plugs maybe?

Mine was misfiring... then it started leaking coolant and burning it too. I'm going to fix it up (modify it) soon to get it running right.

  • @wildman00sax It turned out to be a broken valve spring.

  • @KatsukiLennox

Was there any damage? (other than the valve spring)

  • @wildman00sax ya there crappy motors...my friends impala motor blew up and my mom's monte carlo started to knock and she drives like a grandma so...those V6 have a very bad history and there slow...lol

  • @TPena92

Not necessarily a bad history, but a spotty one. It's the most common of the GM engines.

There is a 3800 V6 Grand Prix that pumps out over 700 HP and runs an 8.65 in the quarter mile. They're only slow if they aren't modded.

  • I got my base 06 Grand prix to do 0-60 in 7.5 seconds but the 30 degree weather outside might have helped. love that car man.

  • @Iwasbored76 Yeah I do love my car, just sucks it's having all sorts of engine issues =( (and no I don't floor it all the time, just mostly when i'm taking videos, so hardly at all. Spark plug wire shorted out, opening a fucking pandora's box.)

  • bout 9.1 seconds thats kinda slow...

  • What, is your stopwatch broken? it's 8.3 seconds...

    Also it's a full-size car with a V6, that's actually pretty good given that.

  • Hahaha yeah okay. You go try and race a GTO with a 6.0L LS2 Corvette engine and tell me Pontiac is fail. The GXP trim level of the Grand Prix receives a 5.3L V8 engine with 303HP and can propel the car to 60 MPH in 5.5 seconds.

Also, 8.3 seconds is not closer to 9, it's closer to 8. Get a better stopwatch, or learn to time shit better. Also this car generally does it in 8.0 seconds, I've used video software to count it to the millisecond.

  • I agree. I know someone with a gtp. He put an intake, exhaust, and a different pulley on it. The thing pulls like a beast considering how heavy it is. And considering you can get a good one for around 15k used. I would say its very fast for what you pay for it

  • OHHHHH hes a ricer, no wonder hes hatin on pontiac...lol go look at his vid...that slow as fuckin car cant even beat ur grand prix stock and he wants to talk shit HAHAHAAHAHAHA

  • obviously u dont know shit about pontiac or youd know they make some beastly cars, and the 3800 v6 has been rated as one of the best engines in the world PERIOD for its durability and its ability to make massive gains in power cheaply. also the lt and ls series v8's are extremely strong engines stock let alone when modified properly.

  • um its a midsize car.

  • @2000V6 Actually, going by exterior dimensions, it qualifies as a full-size car, having a wheelbase greater than 110 inches and a length greater than 197 inches. I am pretty sure it's classified as a mid-size due to its interior volume, which is borderline at best.

  • The bonneville isnt all that much bigger now that I look at it.

  • haha mine was my mom's also. i agree with you on pretty much all of that. ive heard it gets problems just glad mine hasnt yet

  • The thing I love about the 3800 is that they're a lot faster than people tend to give them credit for.

  • Yeah, and this is the 3800 NA. There's still the 3800 Supercharged, and this car is also available with a 5.3L LS4 V8 @ 303HP. I'd like to see people try and take on one of THOSE in their '95 Civic with loud exhaust and overly-tinted windows and lights. XD

  • yeah your right I only heard one upshift and that was at 50mph. Your 0-60 was actually pretty good. I counted under 7 seconds.

I found that in my car when I did a 0-60 run and left it in D the run was quite slow 9+ seconds. Doing the same run in 2nd I do a better 0-60 of 6-7 seconds. But funny I find the weather, mainly air density and atmospheric pressure are a huge factor because more oxygen means more power. I've actually done a few runs that were 5 seconds.

  • Thank you for your opinion but I wasn't talking to you.

  • It's not an opinion it's an fact!

  • nah its obviously not the fastest car ever, but its better than you think. by putting it in the right gear with the right conditions it will get 5 or 6 second.... ill record it hopefully this weekend and show you.

  • Well please do post a video, my neighbor is bout to be on their 3rd transmission in a 5 years old car, pathetic aint it. We raced a our friend in a 4 cyl Colorado and the Colorado outran a Grand Prix GT until the Colorado hit his govoner. No wonder Pontiac no longer makes cars!

  • yea woops i meant to say my GXP i thot thats wat we were talkin about haha. either way ill post a video. it went to 138 before hittin its govoner

  • I'm not dissing your car or anything , but Pontiac are crap, i know from experience. I had a 03 GTP, it was an somewhat alright car (hand down from my mother), other than the awful interior quality, and was rather on the slow side for a supercharged V6, i loved the exterior designed, especially on the color blue. I was kinda glad it burnt to the ground, even after the fixed recall, cause i was starting to have more problems with it.

  • The **GT** won't. But the Grand Prix GXP has 303 HP 5.3L V8 and can *officially* do 0-60 in 5.5 seconds, faster depending on conditions and mods.

  • My brother hasnt had any problems out of his 2005...your neighbor must have a lemon.

  • I have an 08 and I find you will get a faster 0-60 time if you keep it in 2nd or 3rd. If you're in D it just wants to up shift into overdrive too soon.

  • What would the difference be? I'm curious~

In this run, I'm pretty sure I kept it in 1. I'm not sure if that made any difference though.
