Phineas and Ferb and Fish Hooks are family programming, as is Good Luck Charlie (at least that's what Disney says). All Disney shows are rated TV-G, save for My Babysitter's A Vampire (which is TV-PG), and all Disney Junior shows are rated TV-Y.
The good ole' days. I wish the Disney Channel was still like this. They need to bring back all their old stuff and do away with all the new crap that's on it today.
Imagine if Walt Disney were still alive (but now retired from his company) during the launch of the Disney Channel. I could see it now.
"Just the thought of launching a premium TV channel with my last name on it seems fairly odd. Even though I've been doing some television work, I never planned to launch a full-blown network. All I can do is wish them the best of luck."
If you ask me, anyone who complains about the state of the media today or whatever in favor of the media of yesteryear is an idiot. Sure, Disney Channel could afford to make a few improvements, but that's no excuse to say it's ALL crap.
@Kirbyfan87827 It's easy to disregard nowdays cartoons, which animation looks weak and same in every cartoon they airing now in Disney Channel and also camparing to the 80s and 90s cartoons which animation were usually producted in Japan and have more quality, details and life. Yeah, for example well known Koreanese and Japanese animation studios such , made animation of DuckTales. And when I accidentally saw Kim Possible, I saw that characters doesn't have much credibility and attitude.
@MarioSonic3 and those animation studios such taiwanese Cuckoo's Nest Studio, Wang Film Productions and well known japanese studio Tokyo Movie Shinsha were animating during a production.
@fullflavormenthol back when you were mad for not having it b/c it was subcription only...now your more than likely mad for having it for free on cable
It's human nature to lament the new in favor of the old.
I hate the new Disney, but then again, I'm 26 and most likely would not watch it now anyway. What matters now is we have the memories. We can't cling to what was forever. I find similar complaints on the old nickolodian channel vids. It's a bummer, but we enjoyed. Best to make room for the new guard. It's dosen't matter if we don't like it. It's not ours to like anymore
From when you had to pay extra for it b/c it was a "premium channel" a la HBO and Showtime....guess when the extra fees left, the network went downhill :(
The same thing has happened to all family-oriented channels, slowly and progressively!! They all started wickedly well, and then their program lineups went to shit with value-less shows. Case in point: Nickelodeon, Cartoon Network, Disney Channel,...
*goes to Disney Channel studios (i know where they are. i used to live in North Hollywood and i was young and wanted to go there so i went there. in burbank) with a protest sign that shows the First DC logo and mickey and "remember this?WE WANT CLASSIC DISNEY"*
It seems the output of Warner Brothers and Hanna Barbera was more accessible than Disney's. I mean, classic WB cartoons were available on Nickelodeon, ABC and Cartoon Network.
The cable company in my neighborhood back in the 80s was like that too. We had TMC back then, and the converters toggled between A and B. You'd flip it to B to descramble those channels. It's amazing how primitive the technology was only 20 or so years ago.
I can only imagine what the setup looked like if you subscribed to ALL the premium channels. You'd need an entire shelf on your entertainment center just for all those boxes.
I tend to agree with you chabba77 and if they have a new station called Vault Dinsey channel that is decad to all Disney classics i will subscribe to the channle
They really should. It's a no-brainer. They have all that classic material just sitting in their archives, begging to be put to use. They should have at least enough of it at their disposal to start a new channel.
but there's no CARTOONSnow! no IMAGINATION! it's just "hey who can look like hanna montanna?" for pete's sake, they're selling her WIG in stores!!! where are the super heroes? the monsters? the adventures? replaced by forcing children to grow up and face really too fast, conditioning them to think that the only way to succeed is to buy what's already out there, instead of being an individual.
@lucyinthesky16 Well lot me compare and contrast your top-rated comment to Phineas & Ferb. First, P&F is a cartoon. Second, I can't even start how imaginative the show is, I'll just say they have a platypus as a secret agent. Third P&F has had plenty of super heroes monsters and adventures; the damn theme song has the lyrics "fighting a mummy"! Finally, the main message of P&F is that kids should seize the moment every day, and try to achieve the impossible!
@bluenowait well, i've never seen the show so i'll take your word for it. the problem is is that's ONE show out of many. back in the day, MOST of the shows were like that. it still heavily relies on selling an image instead of creating imagination.
You are right and you are wrong. What was different about Disney Channel then was that they aired all of the classics, many of which were around way before any of us were born. Second, was that these people had class and they actually gave a damn on what was put on the air.
I despise this decade with a passion, there is no innocence left in our country and many old classics are largely left forgotten. At least with Aladdin and the Lion King, I appreciated the hard work Disney put into them.
@KratostheThird Fuck this culture!! I agree it went to something great to something a bunch of shit I don't want to have anything to do with. I've stopped watching t.v all together unless it's the science channel
PDS1990, come on. America's Family Network left from Disney ever since Roy Disney stepped down from CEO. Once Roy gets back on top all the old classic stuff will come back and stay and will over ride all the stuff from 2000 and on.
It's pretty funny that a bunch of adults, that watched the Disney Channel years ago, think that it's not good now. It's pretty obvious that adults aren't going to be attracted to the kids' programming on tv today! They're not going for our demographic anymore. I miss these days too, but young kids today enjoy Hannah Montana and the other programs that Disney shows, and there's nothing wrong with that. When they grow up, they're going to miss those shows the way we miss all of our old ones.
ekkostar, you need to get a grip. Not everyone hates Miley. Her shows are just plain stupid. Jonas Brothers should have been banned because they have no class at all. The classics from the late 90's and back should have their own Disney Channel so everyone would be happy.
Kid today want to be Hanna Montana and the Jonas Brothers and shit. That is why they watch it. My little brother is only 8 and he likes those shows but he is not obsessed by them. He likes the classic stuff too.
Ditto. All the new-school shows, like Hannah Montana, Sonny With A Chance, and the new shows on the new Disney XD channel won't replace the old shows on The Disney Channel.
I disdain the new Disney Channel. Especially all this Hannah Montana/Jonas Brothers crap. They should have a channel showing these cartoons called "Classic Disney" or something. I would be glued to the TV screen if they had that.

My dad had to exchange our cable box for another one in order to unscramble the channel. I used to have a Disney Channel watch with this exact logo on it. I think we got it free when we subscribed. LOL! What memories! Thanks for post!!
I had one of those watches too. They actually came to one of the malls in my area, selling Disney Channel subscriptions. They had a guy dressed as Mickey for the kids to meet. As a little tyke I thought it was the coolest thing.
I'm only 19, and didn't get to see this. I have been browsing YouTube, and looking at idents, and promos, and intros, and stuff from the eighties and nineties, and I really think they are SO COOL! Not like the crap you see these days. I never realized how bad it is now, with these f*cking reality shows, and how better it was all those years ago. Thank God I grew up in the nineties, and remember a lot of great programming.
I never grew up with this ( the age on my channel is fake) all I have is youtube andvery little (almost nothing) memories. I remember seeing about a minute of the jersey questioning what is this show. I wish I knew that someday that would all be gone
This whas when Disney Channel was ACTUALLY good from April 1983 to 1997. From 1998 to now, Disney Channel literally went straight to HELL. We, the fans of the classic Disney Channel from 1983 to 1997 should storm up to their building on Almeda Avenue in Burbank CA, to force them to bring back the old stuff from Disney Channel!!
The description on this says it's a computer animation, but if you watch closely, it looks like hand drawn animation made to look like the computer graphics of the day. Remember...Disney's whole schtick up till then was hand drawn animated shows.
The world is so decayed now, there is less of a market for the older, more innocent charming entertainment of the old Disney days. Let's face it, the company started to go down when Disney passed away.
you know what would be a great idea?! if we all petioned (sp?) fir disney to have a channel for the older fans and have (MMC,good morning mickey, the wonderful world of walt) etc. and everything else up to the early 90's they could make extra money.
WOW! It's amazing how memories come flooding back. The Disney Channel was our first pay cable network, and it was a BIG deal. (for us anyway) Disney's original cartoons and movies were, and still are, the best! Today the network is nothing but garbage. For a time the networks only saving grace was the late night "Vault Disney", and even thats gone!
What I don't get is why they scrapped Vault Disney, only to fill those time slots with more of the same crap that's on in the daytime. Hello! Most of the target audience for THAT programming is in bed during those hours. I think Vault Disney should get its own channel, all classic Disney, all the time.
It's such a shame that a channel like this is no longer showing the classic Mickey Mouse cartoons or the classic Disney movies and specials. Instead, they are shoving "teen" and "tween" junk down our throats. If they want a channel for this stuff, put it on ABC Family and turn the Disney Channel BACK into the Disney Channel, not the High School Musical channel.
Feel free to correct me on this, anyone; My understanding about the 700 Club still airing on ABC Family was that it had something to do with a contract agreement they have with Pat Robertson requiring them to still air "700" + a few assorted CBN shows.
I agree with you. Good thing there's other Disney channels like Toon Disney that shows Disney cartoons from the 80's onward, as well as shows that weren't made by Disney but which the company acquired from other studios. Plus, they show a lot of disney movies too!!!
Haha...that sounds like me. I was afraid of the Disney Night Time bumper when I was little, as well as one of the eyecatches w/ Mickey Mouse having a nightmare.
You ain't kidding. I was so scared of that logo it gives me alot of nightmares too much, but, since I'm all grown up. That logo isn't scary anymore. Mickey Mouse is awesome.
I remember that ID for years since the Disney Channel started. Thanks for posting it. I missed the good old Disney Channel, but now they're showing that piece of garbage like "Hannah Montana", "Zack & Cody" and others.
I somewhere have the bars and tone and startup cycle for the Disney Channel somewhere. The Bars and tone state 'Good Morning From The Disney Channel' I will look around and see if I can locate it.
You mean mid 80's

We, the fans of the classic Disney Channel from 1983 to 1997 should storm up to their building on Almeda Avenue in Burbank CA, to force them to bring back the old stuff from Disney Channel!!

The description on this says it's a computer animation, but if you watch closely, it looks like hand drawn animation made to look like the computer graphics of the day. Remember...Disney's whole schtick up till then was hand drawn animated shows.

The world is so decayed now, there is less of a market for the older, more innocent charming entertainment of the old Disney days. Let's face it, the company started to go down when Disney passed away.
patriciaoday 4 years ago
I think it really started to go down back when people like Hilary Duff invaded the channel... I miss the old Disney Channel days!

you know what would be a great idea?! if we all petioned (sp?) fir disney to have a channel for the older fans and have (MMC,good morning mickey, the wonderful world of walt) etc. and everything else up to the early 90's they could make extra money.
ciandraj 4 years ago
No. MMC was in the 1990s too.

Sure, Disney Channel today isn't the cable network it used to be, but hey, couldn't they at LEAST bring Jerry Bishop back as staff announcer?
cosmowanda868 4 years ago 2
We had Disney channel when I was younger.Used to be A pay channel, now it's free on my cable system.

How I envy you! I always dreamed with a Disney Channel here in México T_T but... Now we have a DC since 1999 but, I'm not more a kid :(

The font seems somewhat similar to the original 'EPCOT Center' font.

WOW! It's amazing how memories come flooding back. The Disney Channel was our first pay cable network, and it was a BIG deal. (for us anyway) Disney's original cartoons and movies were, and still are, the best! Today the network is nothing but garbage. For a time the networks only saving grace was the late night "Vault Disney", and even thats gone!
dgwaters 4 years ago 3

I agree wholeheartedly! It's not The Disney Channel anymore! It's The Dismal Channel!
disneyfan81 4 years ago 2
LOL the Dismal Channel, that's a good one. Yeah I agree, they should bring the Disney channel to what it's mean't to be.

Given that scenario, what they show currently on ABC Family might have to be spun off on a new cable network.
BTW, in that scenario, what would happen to the 700 Club that ABC Family (originally CBN) has been airing for over 30 years?
cosmowanda868 4 years ago

MGJR9108 4 years ago
You ain't kidding. I was so scared of that logo it gives me alot of nightmares too much, but, since I'm all grown up. That logo isn't scary anymore. Mickey Mouse is awesome.

I want to live in the 80's sooooo badly! ;_; It makes me cry that I wasn't even born in the 80's!

Same thing, I was born 2 years and 15 days after.

I remember the logo, but not that partiular bumper. I'm 20 and started watching when I was around 3, so I didn't see anything before 1990.
moccalou 4 years ago
I remember that ID for years since the Disney Channel started. Thanks for posting it. I missed the good old Disney Channel, but now they're showing that piece of garbage like "Hannah Montana", "Zack & Cody" and others.

I somewhere have the bars and tone and startup cycle for the Disney Channel somewhere. The Bars and tone state 'Good Morning From The Disney Channel' I will look around and see if I can locate it.

Oooh...do you happen to have some more Disney Channel stuff from the early 80s? Mostly like the sign-on and sign-off?
