About how much did you end up paying for this whole project? I want to do this do while I'm on winter break (I'm 13) and it would be great if you could reply! Thanks!
@JakekaJ14 LOL......Just because I don't play metal-doesn't mean I can't rock out to it....LOL I'm a metal head, but when I play it's more blues then anything....Thanks keep em coming..
Congratulations on the completion of your Gibson Explorer project. It sounds really good with the Seymour Duncan pickups! Great playing by the way. I like your blues style of playing on clean output, very cool.
Great!! I bought this kit from a friend. I don't know where he got it from, but was a nice kit. Had to do som minor tweeking. Thanks for providing that info.
Nice job, there is a lot that goes into a build, the best part is you get to choose your pickups electronic components, custom heaven.Thanks for sharing.
check out some forums on tune o matic bridges. I don't know what the correct angle should be> On my explorer and flying V the angle is approx. 3 degrees. Is the heel at an angle or neck pocket? If neck pocket you can get the angle of the pocket and match it with a filler peice thats at that same angle to create a flat bottom and re-sand or route down to correct height and then creat the angle on the neck heel. Its much eaiser taken from the heel then the pocket. Thanks great question.
i would want to make one with a tiger wood top with a real dark stain have a nice natural finish. alot like Metallica's James Hetfield's Ken Lawrence Explorer
@alexis221woodworks thanks man! we decided on how im going to build it, and all the little things, its gunna be metallic silver, not as much shiny as just a bright silver, and then we are going to make a dime plating faceplate and i ordered some seymour duncan dave mustaine live wire pickups for it, because i am a big megadeth fan, so yeah it should be a killer guitar if i do it right!! how long did it take you to build it if you dont mind me asking?
@revolverhades23 Cool!!!! I finished it in about 4 weeks total. I took my time in fitting the neck to make sure it was in line with the bridge. That was the most important part so my strings would all be even with the neck. With my kit the neck was a little wider than the pocket...so fitting was critical......Have fun and make sure you show me some pic's or vid...
what was the total price for building ur beautiful looking and sounding guitar? :D btw ive got the gibson explorer reissue 76, bought of course haha, cool guitar.
did you buy this from guitar fetish? i want to buy the strat kit and paint it up like Jeff Healeys but you seem to have dont a lot of work and i dont have the tools or know how that you have so i dunno bout it now haha
@Cheapooo Im buying a SG in the morning.. I live in nashville that being said i love gibson. but there guitars are not the best in the world they are fine but the necks break off easy,, I think they should break them and reglue them before they even leave he factory because there much better after that.
Hey, looks like it turned out pretty sweet. Another thing you can do is recess the volume/tone knobs. That way If you're like me, you don't keep turning them down by accident while playing. They always seem to be in the way.
Where did you get the kit

You can buy these in the USA at rmolsonguitars add the dot come or just do a search for R M Olson Guitars
You can get LP's SG's Flying V's and Explorers.
THey come pre-wired
These are made out of real mahogany bodies not the cheap poplar or basswood.
The LP's have flamed maple tops and multi layer binding and come with set necks. You can even get ebony fretboard and a choice of fretboard markers!
