@midnightrambler03 Shaq is not overrated, this was hakeem in his prime and it showed. Shaq is probably in the top 5 centers to have ever played the game, but i think hakeem was better overall. they have different play styles, and shaq was just too slow. later though, shaq would dominate like hakeem did in this era. playing against hakeem made shaq a better player in opinion.
@localboi25 Exactly, Shaq was still raw at that point in his career & Hakeem treated him like the kid that he was at that point. It wasn't until later on that Shaq became the dominate force that he was. At that time, there wasn't a more athletic center in the game than Olajuwan. Hakeem could do it all & was probably the most dominant force in the game at that time. It's a shame the Bulls & Rockets never met in the finals because that could have been one of the best series ever
@dralger I would've done the same. I slept 3 hours and went to school the next day to watch this year's nba finals. Every minute of drowsiness was worth it. (i'm thirteen now)
I just had some dumbass argue with me that LeBron is a better scorer than Hakeem. No fucking way. Put LeBron in the 90's, he scores probably 15ppg. The rules today have ruined the NBA, it's too soft and player are getting undeserved accolades and praise. Put Hakeem in today's game he's scoring 35-40 ppg easily. smh
No, not in history there was 4 better. In fact Shaq eclipsed him 4 rings. Wilt Chamberlain a tru center at 7ft look at the wiki his stats, Lou Alcinder aka Kareem Abdul Jabaar 6 rings at 7 ft 2 inch, most points scored ever wiki his stats, and finally Bill Russel Boston Celtics 11 time Champ. Akeem is maybe 5th behind these guys though a great player.
@BrooklynMoor yo do not know basketball. Olajuwon had better skills that everybody else. He never had any help from his team when he won 2 rings. He won them by himself.
when you look at the achievements and intangibles, kareem is the best center ever... but olajuwon is the most skilled center ever... skill... what more can i say... skill is not talent... dwight is talented, pau and duncan is skilled... but that man is the god these guys look up to... he's my favorite center ever, but not the best... favorite and best is different...
@ackmino Bill Russel is the best defensive center ever, and the winning-est of all... But that doesn't mean he is the greatest of all... Rings do not translate to individual talents or skills... it is a team accomplishment...
@scapicoco He was playing with different players mostly short guys. The era of Hakeem was way better in terms of competiveness. So that makes Olajuwon the best center ever ever to play basketball.
@amlo20121 Hey I am not saying bill russel... will you pls read my comments before the comment you replied... I'm absolutely sure you made mistake about my subsequent comment...
I see Hakeem doing a Dirk Nowitzki move in this video. Or should I say I see Hakeem doing one of his moves that Dirk uses today. Hakeem was an awesome player and even though I am a Celtics fan I do admit that he was the greatest center ever. Just very fun to watch that guy with all his moves.
I too get disappointed when I look at today's big men as opposed to those from the 90s. Today we have Duncan, KG, Nowitzki, Howard, Gasol, and (sigh) Stoudemire. Out of all of those, only KG and Duncan in their primes were on the level of the big men of the 90s, and only at the PF position. There are NO centers now that compare.
That being said, it is exciting to be an NBA fan these days because of how strong the league is in point guards. The league is STACKED with amazing PGs.
did you never wonder why is this so??? :) could it not be so cos of the rules in todays NBA where SG and PG can do all they want and centers are limited as hell?
this ist the era of backcourt players... and not cos of the talent but cos of the rules...
What gets me with all these comparisons between these two is that with a man that was as physically dominating as Shaq was he never came close to blocks or rebounds during the course of his career compared to Hakeem. Even after Shaq has p-layed damn near 20 years. He dominated a weak era of centers post 2000 too. I would expect better numbers from a man who is dubbed "most dominant" compared to his counterparts.
Shaq is almost 4 inches taller than Olajuwon and Shaq had a 9'8" standing reach, but Olajuwon was just so athletic that Shaq just couldn't get high enough to block those shots. Shaq also got away with tons of fouls in that series where he made Olajuwon miss some shots by fouling him with the body but they were no calls.
the great thing about shaq vs the dream in 1995 is shaq played great defense hakeem just played better offense shaq guarded hakeem better than anybody did that year but it wasnt good enough and then they tried to put grant on him no wonder brian hill is not a head coach now.

I would say had MJ not retired during 94/95, Bulls vs Rockets would have been a great 7 game series. No one can stop Olajuwan in Bulls line up... vs unstoppable MJ/Pippen combination.

I'd like to have seen Dream school D. Howard, that would have been hilarious! Centers today don't compare, sorry Yao, and I'm from Houston. Olajuwon=GOAT! And yes even MJ's Bulls were under .500 against Dream's Rocket's lifetime...that's very impressive!
diegoris23 I'm 5 8 and I can do some crazy dunks. Honestly, anyone can do it, just do the right workouts with the right nutrition. I recommend the program at "50inch vertical (dot) com" but any program could be used if you can check they generate results

I wish that I could have seen this Finals series as I was less than 12 months old at the time. Seeing 2 of the Top 10 G.O.A.T, Top 5 Centers, and two of my favorite players play against each other would have been great!
ppl mention david robinson and shaq as the greatest centers of this era and look how he dominated in the playoffs vs them, even if shaq was young. he was head and shoulders above all the rest
@94jalouane 2 rings* pay homage grasshopper, you wouldnt say "jordan is great cuz hes got a ring" one ring puts you in the conversation, 2 or higher etches in stone youre ""greatness" hes overshadowed by jordan, but he is def on that level
@mattkhanna well excuuuuuse me. I realised right after that a wrote a ring. and i don't care cuz BOSTON gonna win this year that means two rings for Rondo and now he's just as great as Hakeem
diegoris23 crazy vid, reminds me of me in college - ha. I'm 5 7 and I can 180 dunk. I used the famous workout that pro players including Kobe Ray Allen and Areans used. If you want more info about the program, check out - 50 inch vertical (dot) com
diegoris23, is 5 7, American and can dunk easily. Wtf you mean white men can't dunk? It's just about the training individuals do to get their own leg strength to be strong enough to dunk. However for me, I just used the professional dunk workout over at | 50 inch vertical [dot] com |
Stoudamire is nowhere close to this list yet and Olajuwon is maybe the fourth greatest center behind Jabbar, but Hakeem had the most finesse and best all around game of any center ever.
Olajuwon is top3.....No way Russell/Shaq were better than Dream. And I think Hakeem was a better "clutch" player than Wilt. Kareeem's overall body of work is probably superior to Dream, but Dream had a lot less to work with than Kareem. And no Center reached at Dream's level from 92-95. None.
diegoris23 If you play bball at all, you gotta check out - (50 inch vertical [dot] com) - It's a specialized workout that will def make you begin dunking without even going to the local gym , it's optional!
diegoris23 I'm only 5 7 and I dunk all the time in official games. I m in my school's ball team and my dunking impresses the crowd (the girls lol). It was truthfully extremely simple, I just followed the unique workout program over at 50inch vertical[dot]com - anyone can do it
So my team mate diegoris23 finally told me how he started dunking, he s not even as tall as me but leaps over a foot higher! What he took the training plan over at (50 inch vertical [dot] com) and gained over 15 inches in his vertical jump!
diegoris23 nice vid, reminds me of myself - haha. I'm 5 7 and I am able to 180 dunk. I followed the real nba training program that that even Kobe and Ray Allen both used. Check out the program at - 50 inch vertical (dot) com
sup diegoris23, I am practicing to improve my jump by following the training system over at 50 inch vertical (dot) com - and so far got like past 8-10 inches so far but I m only a a little off from dunking the ball It's still my second week thus far, any tips?
So my good friend diegoris23 finally told me how he started dunking, he s shorter than me, he s only 5 6 but jumps over a foot higher! Apparently he took the training workout over at 50inch vertical[dot]com and increased over 14 inches in his vertical leap!
diegoris23 you play ball? you gotta check out - 50 inch vertical (dot) com - It's a famous training plan that will help you begin dunking without even going to the local gym if you don t want to!
Hakeem was always humble everytime he makes an excellent shot or moves. You don't see him pumping his fist like a maniac or screaming his lungs off like an animal. Total opposite in todays era of players. Just a bunch of show-offs
I find that a very ignorant comment. Hakeem was just a very relaxed player, and that was the way he played. He kept his emotions in.
So people who have the exact same emotions Hakeem felt, but don't keep them in are maniacs or animals? In all sports you have players who keep their emotions inside and find a different way to let it out while others automatically show it. You have to respect each type of player. That is poor for you to call those types of players maniacs/animals.
Man, he owned Shaq! Very underrated because he didn't play in NY, LA, or Chicago. Definately the FASTEST center to have played the game, and I would say the best.
@2taxedout Bill Russell @ 6'10" was as fast as a guard and in his time - the fastest man in the NBA using that ability to block shots and get rebounds when his team needed them most - more effectively than any other center, before or after (recording 24.9 RPG and 10 to 20 blocked shots in the playoffs and collecting more championship rings than he has fingers). Hakeem is an inch or two taller but is still an undersized center who definitely had a speed advantage over his opponents.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
diegoris23 I'm only 5 8 and I dunk all the time in official games. I m in my high school's team and my dunking excites everyone (esp the girls lol). It was honestly extremely simple, I just used the unique workout over at 50inch vertical[dot]com - I m sure you can probably do it too
"If I had to pick a center [for an all-time best team], I would take Olajuwon. That leaves out Shaq, Patrick Ewing. It leaves out Wilt Chamberlain. It leaves out a lot of people. And the reason I would take Olajuwon is very simple: he is so versatile because of what he can give you from that position. It's not just his scoring, not just his rebounding or not just his blocked shots. People don't realize he was in the top seven in steals. He always made great decisions on the court."
@superterrifichappy Agree. Source: "One on One with Michael Jordan" by Marvin R. Shanken. August 1, 2005. The interview is published in Cigar Aficionado (page 5).
Hakeem is the best Center to ever play the game. Just watching this, the current NBA lacks so much. There are no dominant big men anymore, which is a real shame. Hopefully another center with as much touch and power as Hakeem will appear again one day.
sweet, sick highlights. I especially like the beginning =) Can you believe I’ve finally started dunking?! I’m still in high school, I just followed the training program at snipurl[dot]com/nbatraining and did it in 2 months!
Number 3 shouldve been number one.. I GET GOOSEBUMPS hearin the words its only fitting. lol to wait so long to get a championship then do it twice in a row and you end the win with a 3 pointer.. Hakeem Olajuwon simply the greatest of all time
A three in shaq's face to seal the Sweep??? i don't get how some people think Shaq was betta Shaq won all his titles After every decent Center was already gone plus he had one of the greatest players of all time on his team
Shaq couldnt stop Hakeem, Hakeem couldnt stop Shaq. Both centers had amazing numbers on those finals and played very well against each other, it was the rest who decided the question. Rockets were better.
@Playboyy1985,thank you! You see my point. All Shaq stans would say: ohh he has more rings than Dream and scored more points thats the reason why Shaq is better????
Forgeting the fact that Shaq dominated a pathetic decade and had played with one of the greatest players of all time and soon to be one of the greatest of all time.
Dream never had a sidekick on the level of kobe/wade.
its done by so many players even in todays game, and its never called a travel. If you look at lebron james he constantly takes 3 steps, because its more for entertainment
hakeem is one of the most complete players to ever play the game.. he dominated the paint and anywhere inside, and yet whats so amazing is he could knock down long jumpers, and make far out hook shots
Poor Penny, poor Shaq! whom got his titles later. Wish Penny would have not been injured so much, would have had a great career. even though they beat MJ and the bulls a few weeks earlier. never be another Olajuwon though.
He was fast, athletic and strong, but these things couldn't make him a so good center than he was because of his size (very clear less than 7 foots). The key was his intelligence in the game. The brain is the best weapon, but nowadays few players could understand it.
he abused david robinson even more in the previous series. that was a criminal display! he left no one in any doubt who was the real MVP after that series.
Dream is 2nd to none,he's the #1 scoring center in post season history per game and only Russell compares on defense,Dream is the greatest all/around center period........and though Moses won 3 MVP'S-he was a ball hog, terrible passer,so he doesn't make top 4-why?? it's a team sport and he didn't pass the damn ball
shaq never got better in 2000. still no perimeter shooting, free throws, bla bla bla. all the same shaq ever since...relying on his size and footwork. it's just there were no olajuwon, ewing (old), robinson (old), to compete shaq in those years...basically shaq will dominate all the other big man. hakeem over shaq anyday. shaq was fun to watch though.
nah...even shaq admitted over and over again that hakeem is the best center ever. shaq in 2000 was still the same. shaq was the best entertainer and i like him ever since in '92, but skill wise and the ability to win the game--it would be the dream hands down.
@SunMan6A6,Shaq was faster here. He has no chance if your talking about 2000 shaq.Shaq was actually slower.Shaqs game has never evolved. He was always the same.He has no moves asides from backing down his defender. No improvements aside playing in a weaker decade when he was clearly the best center at the time.
i just wonder if shaq cudda beat this rockets team with the 2001 lakers

Seeing 2 of the Top 10 G.O.A.T, Top 5 Centers, and two of my favorite players play against each other would have been great!

the sad thing is you never hear about Houston's back to back because of Jordan's era

ppl mention david robinson and shaq as the greatest centers of this era and look how he dominated in the playoffs vs them, even if shaq was young. he was head and shoulders above all the rest
mattkhanna 1 year ago
Best Center of all time, he outplayed Ewing,Robinson and Shaq in 94,95
Chamberlain played agains 6'4 white boys, Bill Russel was great though.
JohnFromSpace 1 year ago
for me what increases his greatness is the fact that he got a ring
94jalouane 1 year ago
@94jalouane 2 rings* pay homage grasshopper, you wouldnt say "jordan is great cuz hes got a ring" one ring puts you in the conversation, 2 or higher etches in stone youre ""greatness" hes overshadowed by jordan, but he is def on that level
mattkhanna 1 year ago
@mattkhanna well excuuuuuse me. I realised right after that a wrote a ring. and i don't care cuz BOSTON gonna win this year that means two rings for Rondo and now he's just as great as Hakeem

This guy played the center position better than anybody before him or after him. There never be another like him.

diegoris23, is 5 7, American and can dunk easily. Wtf you mean white men can't dunk? It's just about the training individuals do to get their own leg strength to be strong enough to dunk. However for me, I just used the professional dunk workout over at | 50 inch vertical [dot] com |

My All-time starting Line-ups ( & Putting players at their secondary positions)
C - Hakeem Olajuwon
PF - Amare Stoudemire
SF - Lebron James
SG - Michael Jordan / Kobe Bryant
PG - Magic Johnson
90EMC 1 year ago
How about
5 - Wilt Chamberlain/Bill Russell
4 - Tim Duncan/Karl Malone
3 - Lebron James/Larry Bird
2 - Michael Jordan/Kobe Bryant
1 - Magic Johnson/ Oscar Robertson
Stoudamire is nowhere close to this list yet and Olajuwon is maybe the fourth greatest center behind Jabbar, but Hakeem had the most finesse and best all around game of any center ever.
omusialo 1 year ago
Olajuwon is top3.....No way Russell/Shaq were better than Dream. And I think Hakeem was a better "clutch" player than Wilt. Kareeem's overall body of work is probably superior to Dream, but Dream had a lot less to work with than Kareem. And no Center reached at Dream's level from 92-95. None.
FuShengAlex 1 year ago
90EMC,Lebron James?
Amarie Stoudamire?
I would have Barkley,K. Malone, and or K Mchale over Stoudamire.
I would have Bird,Drexler,Dr.J,and Pippen over L.James.
It's hard for me to choose a point guard:Stockton,Magic,& Kidd.
good look with Magic.

Hakeem was always humble everytime he makes an excellent shot or moves. You don't see him pumping his fist like a maniac or screaming his lungs off like an animal. Total opposite in todays era of players. Just a bunch of show-offs
mr694you 1 year ago 4
I find that a very ignorant comment. Hakeem was just a very relaxed player, and that was the way he played. He kept his emotions in.
So people who have the exact same emotions Hakeem felt, but don't keep them in are maniacs or animals? In all sports you have players who keep their emotions inside and find a different way to let it out while others automatically show it. You have to respect each type of player. That is poor for you to call those types of players maniacs/animals.

DClem1 1 year ago 7
Man, he owned Shaq! Very underrated because he didn't play in NY, LA, or Chicago. Definately the FASTEST center to have played the game, and I would say the best.
2taxedout 1 year ago 27
@2taxedout Bill Russell @ 6'10" was as fast as a guard and in his time - the fastest man in the NBA using that ability to block shots and get rebounds when his team needed them most - more effectively than any other center, before or after (recording 24.9 RPG and 10 to 20 blocked shots in the playoffs and collecting more championship rings than he has fingers). Hakeem is an inch or two taller but is still an undersized center who definitely had a speed advantage over his opponents.

Hakeem is the best Center to ever play the game. Just watching this, the current NBA lacks so much. There are no dominant big men anymore, which is a real shame. Hopefully another center with as much touch and power as Hakeem will appear again one day.

Playboyy1985 2 years ago
Shaq couldnt stop Hakeem, Hakeem couldnt stop Shaq. Both centers had amazing numbers on those finals and played very well against each other, it was the rest who decided the question. Rockets were better.

@Playboyy1985,thank you! You see my point. All Shaq stans would say: ohh he has more rings than Dream and scored more points thats the reason why Shaq is better????
Forgeting the fact that Shaq dominated a pathetic decade and had played with one of the greatest players of all time and soon to be one of the greatest of all time.

blommen 2 years ago
He was fast, athletic and strong, but these things couldn't make him a so good center than he was because of his size (very clear less than 7 foots). The key was his intelligence in the game. The brain is the best weapon, but nowadays few players could understand it.
juliojgr19 2 years ago 4

When you successfully combine NBA size and hands, with soccer footwork and stamina, you get Hakeem!
LOL! Wasn't it Shaq that described Hakeem as " a 7 footer with more moves than Prince!"

i wish hakkem would face shaq in his 200 prime, where he gotten even stronger and better
SunMan6A6 2 years ago 3
shaq never got better in 2000. still no perimeter shooting, free throws, bla bla bla. all the same shaq ever since...relying on his size and footwork. it's just there were no olajuwon, ewing (old), robinson (old), to compete shaq in those years...basically shaq will dominate all the other big man. hakeem over shaq anyday. shaq was fun to watch though.
lemonHEADS82 2 years ago
thats not true man, shaq improved and he even got bigger and stronger then when he faced olajuwon, shaq 2000 better then olajuwon
SunMan6A6 2 years ago
nah...even shaq admitted over and over again that hakeem is the best center ever. shaq in 2000 was still the same. shaq was the best entertainer and i like him ever since in '92, but skill wise and the ability to win the game--it would be the dream hands down.
lemonHEADS82 2 years ago 4
@SunMan6A6,Shaq was faster here. He has no chance if your talking about 2000 shaq.Shaq was actually slower.Shaqs game has never evolved. He was always the same.He has no moves asides from backing down his defender. No improvements aside playing in a weaker decade when he was clearly the best center at the time.
EmperorJBO 11 months ago
@SunMan6A6, how did he get better? He has the exact same moves.
Since he gained weight, that means yes he got stronger but slower as well.
Shaq had a hard enough time trying to keep up with him here. Imagine him with more weight chasing him around. Dream would still win.
