Listen the cellos, they sound more like Blackened death metal xD ... reminds me a bit Jaws theme, Coppola's Dracula theme during the wedding and Behemoth Sehmhamforash. This Vorspiel is amazing btw.
And you posted this Prelude and a few seconds of this production and don't let me see the finale of the first act??? I don't care for modern operatic productions generally, but this is imaginitive and disturbing, exactly what Wagner intended. And MUSICALLY this is tremendous!!! The Muziektheatre is vasty underrated and sadly not known much outside Netherlands.
It´s more `Black Wood `, than Black Metal - the music`s depicting a man being chased through the pitch black woods. And, for reasons way too many to state here, you´re sadly making a terrible mistake if you think Wagner invented a form of electronic music called Black Metal - you´re confusing timbre, style and emotional content. If you played this on BM guitars it would sound like BM, But so would anything played in a minor key, with a BM timbre and style.
@jmorrell22 i think your missing the point, the point was to address the similarities between the format , atmosphere and intensity of BM and Wagners style, not to say he INVENTED IT, but thena gain, electric guitars with the proper distortion werent around for another 100 years, so who is to say he wouldnt have had some Tremolo picking if they were around back then, either way, Mozarts music has NO relation to metal, but the scales and moods Wagners music has, does.
those costumes have nothing to do with original stage versions of The Ring. it is contemporary scenic production with designs influenced by our contemporary popular culture... I couldn't really imagine Wagner appreciating the sound of Black Metal
@chepe371 It has some insignifiant music and some good music in metal, Idon't know all. So if you think it could compare just one seconde with music like Mahler or Shostakovich... That's why I said it's a primitive style, it's in general very simple. NAd also they think their music is "satanist" so ITS NOT SATANIST. For sanatanist and raffined music in one pack the must is Sergueï Prokofiev, and also Mossolov or Scriabine. So thanks to listened wagner's music, it prouves your culture (y) :P
@MegaDocalex True there is ALOT of garbage in Metal and also Black Metal. Like most music styles you have to dig deep to find substance, and with BM, the "satanist" devil worship reputation is hard to get rid of, but another influence to Black Metal from Wagner etc is the European Mythology, Burzum and Blut Aus Nord delve into the Norse mythology similar to Lord of the Rings and Der Ring des Nibelungen so the influence is much deeper than just music.
metal came forth out of classical music, the impressive solo's the changes in tempi, the build up of suspense ,thte sense of treath, the sense of power, the melodies, as well as the over all build of the pieces are much the same
It looks like a really interesting production visually - is it available on DVD? Oh and by the way - all knuckle draggers pay attention - I'm certain the comparison was not serious meant.
@IsraeliMetalhead than whats this nonsense of "a person who can't hear the imagination beetween black metal and wagner's music is Deaf"? if Wagner had amps and a distortion pedal he wouldve had the darkest sounding music passed anything we have today. (except for like crazy hardcore polish black metal)
is this on DVD at all?

Ok gang, scuse me if my english is bad
Metal is more like Toccata und fuge in D möll of J.S. Bach.
Yes it is violent but metal is a music more primitive than this air.

@MegaDocalex i dotn think you ever heard Blut Aus Nord's Memoria Vetusta II album...call that primitive.
