I asked the Kelly's a few years ago about their unique exhaust note, was it different cam timing/firing order or just exhaust. they said cam timing cannot be changed in regards to the rules, and that all they did was run the extractors in firing order. So cylinders spaced far apart in the firing sequence were getting to the collector together to cut back on back pressure... This used to be done on Ford GT40's at LeMans back in the 60's.. they also had a unique note. :-)

why does this car sound so different from the other V8 cars. do they use different headers, or what is it?

@GTRF1V8 they use a different exhaust header system to all the other cars. Good old Larry Perkins for ya
