  • Hyvin tehty video, Draken upea leija.

  • Finnish Power !!

  • Lapsuuden joulukuuset...

  • I`ve seen2 of them do a dogfight with using the skyline of the mountans. - Fast & close circles, nice to see them! 2005 i´ve seen them on airpower (Zeltwelt, Austria). Great Jet!

  • Beautifull plane!!!!

  • Hävittäjälentolaivue 11 merkki tuossa keltaisessa drakenissa.

  • Todellinen SAAB !

  • tä on siisti

  • Taivaan varjot

  • Midnight Hawks

  • F18 Hornet taitolentoa

  • Why are is this plane no more in use?I'm half finnish and i want to join finnish airforce and i'd like to know...:D

  • @Stefanoukos1 They needed to update their fighters. The draken was a fantastic plane, perfection of its age.

But thats the issue, its old. Reliable, but still old.

  • @Wyvern0110 The Draken could've been updated to modern standards if the Swedes and Finns wanted it to, just like the Romanians did with their MiG-21 Lancers. It wouldn't however be a good reflection on the quality of their airforces if they were still using 50 year old aircraft. Thats why the Romanians are starting to outphase the MiG's even though they are perectly capable of holding their own against much more modern fighters

  • @aspiringdrummer17 I guess you are right on that account. I guess it was simply for that very "modern" reflection.

I love the Draken and I love the Hornet so Im truly neutral to the subject. IMO, they should have kept both (stupid number limit)

  • グラディウスみたい

  • Hade ni svenska emblem på de finska planen ;-)

  • 3:47- Awesome! Great video of a great plane, farewell..

  • Did this plane ever see any action?

  • @iamstarstuff001 the swedes did dog fight trainings against the russians with them over the baltic sea. Guess who flyed home with shit in their pants ;)

  • @AddeXtreme Swedes..? Maybe pilots dropped their hairnets...

  • kick ass video !

    hyvää Soumi, greetings from Sweden

  • The Griffin is no where near as groundbreaking as the Dragon was. It was so cutting edge in every single way. It was the best fighter in the 70s in the entire world. In Sweden it was taken out of service in 1999, being replaced by the Griffin on the last flottila F10 (i believe i spotted some dragons with 10 in front of the three crowns in the video btw :D) The Griffin will be the last swedish fighter ever built if nothing drastic happens :P It will likely be replaced by the Eurofighter in 2030.

  • @JJswe93 In 2030 it will be 36 years since the Eurofighters first flight and 27 years since it was introduced, there would be no reason at all for us to buy it. And the plan is to operate the Gripen until 2040 anyway, and a lot can happen in 29 years so there's no way of telling whether Gripen will be the last Swedish fighter or not.

  • @JJswe93 Yeah right, Eurofighter? why switch from a good plane to a worse? pff

  • Why Finland dont chose Jas Gripen ?

  • @xsf908 Basically the then government wanted to buy the F18 Hornet badly to show their loyalty to the West.

  • @itapirkanmaa

Gripen wasn't even ready at that time.

  • @itapirkanmaa Hornet valittiin kaksimoottorisuuden ja varaosien helpon saatavuuden takia.

  • @xsf908 They hate Sweden

  • @Tjurgubben Why they hate Sweden ?

  • @xsf908 When Finland became russian after 1809 and after thatFinnish 1918 they started a form of etnic cleansing. The finnish language is a potpourri of 211 russian dialects. A Swede (Johan Vilhelm Snellman) put them together to a new language - finnish. Now it's not so many Swedes left i Finland.

    source = .kolumbus.fi/bjorn.corander/index.htm

  • @Tjurgubben Björn Corander does not know much. Russian belong to a totally different language group than Finnish, or Swedish, for that matter.

  • Comment removed

  • @xsf908 Maybe because two engine, much more tested (even in combat) fighter (F/A 18) was available for cheaper?

Nowadays Gripen would certainly seem quite OK, but by then the accidents during testing and even in the public airshows didn't make Gripen much good publicity, either.

  • DRAGONAGE 2 @

  • Finland always chose the best for their fighters. Draken was amazing, and F-18 was a good successor.

  • sweedish planes rocks, greating from france, hope we will cooperate on a new fighter jet (without the USA)

  • @bingofioul the Gripen will perhaps be the last fighter Designed and built by sweden as no1 is buying it they rather buy Aged F16s F18s F15s or Migs for the same Price =( its sad

  • How can we afford to have several aircraft manufacturers in Europe when all the costs of R&D and production are getting so rediciously expensive and the possibility to reimburse on exports is so so slim? US have got two major manufaturers, how many do we have? Cooperation on all levels of procurement is the future I believe (If you don't want to ruin the taxpayers). SAAB can definitely be a contributing part of future collaborative efforts but some euros have to quit beeing such Chauvinists.

  • @ThisSpitefulSnake

Having many cooks in one kitchen (A380, A400M projects etc) won't solve the problem. It just multiply all the problems like bureaucracy and politics.

  • @ferdinand7004 thanks for the reminder! Now I also remember a little about Finnish war and yes, Finland had something to say about becoming a part of Russia. I was just thinking about the earlier wars, hehe.

    It was quite deliberate decission.

  • @ferdinand7004 I think KekkonenKalasti was most probably joking, but there's also an important point. Finland has been some sort of shield for Sweden over history, and that's not silly argument. You can read about wars Sweden and Russia have had - and the wars have always been on Finnish soil. So yeah, talking about the first time..

But! When did Finland CHOOSE Russia over Sweden? That's an interesting expression for "being taken over by Russia"...

  • If you have any of these you don't need give them to meeeee. They scrap these jets for nothing...

  • @ferdinand7004

That is from the National Test Pilot School in the United States. They were studying pitchout recovery.

  • thumbs up who wants to see the draken, viggen and grippen do a display

  • jokseenki koomisen kuulosta, Saab-merkkinen hävittäjä :p

  • Kiitos! How apt...my father was Finnish and I'm Australian. Great music.

  • Kiitos!

  • HAts off to Nordic aircraft, Saab :)

  • kucewmi I have one thing to say to you AWESOME video!!! My respect is much greater for the SAAB J35 DRAKEN now!!! Thanks for uploading this video!!!!!!

  • 3:46 lol

  • na na na na na na na naaaa na na na na na naaa Batmaaaan

  • I love 35 Draken, 37 Viggen and 39 gripen. I love swedish jet-planes

  • Go Rysky! - Apumeisseli II/90 LapLsto / HävLv 11

  • I like it

  • Great afterburner design by SAAB turned this beauty into a winner

  • Nice compilation of footage and what a great plane it was!

  • Built to whoop some russian ass.

  • true fighter. maybe not up to specs now but had balls.

  • A lovely and too little known aircraft. Sibelius as sound trck excellent!

  • That has got to be the coolest looking fighter jet iv seen to date, amazing hehe :D

  • Super-Stalling at around 3:00 and 5:50 on this video. Go Finland! And many thanks to Sweden for selling these gorgeus machines to us.

  • Super-Stalling at around 3:00 and 5:50 on this video. Go Finland! And many thanks for Sweden for selling these gorgeus machines to us.

  • Uskomaton kone, olin merivoimissa ohjusveneellä ja seurasin sillalta mig ja drakenin vääntöä:)

  • Excellent Video: Aircraft , Sibelius and AC/DC, all 10/10

  • 3:46 :D.... kaunis kuvio...

  • it was a cool plane way ahead of its time .. what a nice way to burn fossil fuels.. smile...

  • Red Bull -Draken??

  • @SirRetku Nope, that is a bison.

  • @SirRetku that's the insignia of the Lappi Wing, Lapin lennosto, if I remember correctly it was originally Häme Wing's (Hämeen lennosto) insignia, the first air wing to receive Drakens.

  • @dimapez

The Wisent (aka european bison) as squadron insignia dates to second world war. Back then, what is now Lapin Lennosto was Lentolaivue 46, a bomber squadron. Pilots received training for Do-17 bombers in Poland, witch was occupied by nazis. They also got order to invent a squadron insignia, something that might pass as one was found from label of Polish vodka bottle, Zubrowka.

BTW. Fastest plane in Finnish AF history was MiG-21, not Draken.

  • @762rk95tp I thought it was used by some squadron during the Continuation war, but wasn't sure, what comes to the speed record, apparently MiG-21 bis was a little bit faster, but Finland also used MiG-21 F-13 which was a little bit slower than Draken, my original source presented the top speeds for both MiGs as 2,05 Mach, and while for F-13 also the km/h -top speed was presented, the specs for bis did not, so I assumed the top speed was the same, Draken's top speed is given as 2126 km/h.

  • Vackert plan, kanske världens snyggaste.Tyvärr ett enkelt mål p.g.a vingarna

  • realy cool video

  • Skyhighdraken, I agree and kudos for your opinion.

    R.I.P. Draken

  • No on tää jokseenki munakkaamman näköne ja kuulone ku hornet ja muut koneet.. i think

  • The Roar of Freedom

As they were called in Danmark :)

  • Filmed in lapland

  • draken oli oiken oiva kone

  • draken oli aivan hyvä kone

  • Drakenissa on jotain pelottavaa. Siipien ja rungon muoto ehkäpä? Jotenki karmiva näky taivaalla. Muistan lapsuusajoilta lentonäytöksen ja piru vie ku pelkäsin nimenomaan drakeneita...

  • @Ravenfields

Todellinen petolintu. Itsestäni tuo profiili on aina ollut, ja varmaan tulee olemaankin, kauniista kaunein.

  • growing up (in Denmark) this is what i thought of when people spoke of jet-fighters: Karup airbase is close by and squadron 729 (i think) flew Drakens until the early 90ies..very distinctive plane.

-anyways- nice video and good music ;)

  • finnish and israel air force pilot is best !!!!!!

  • Where is all finnish draken nowadays?

  • @7tdez25 most of them have been scrapped, but few have been stored in a museum as well as few airfields and at least one militarybase, and few have been made into memorials, some of which are in places accessible for the public, while others are in military bases like Air Force Academy in Tikkakoski.

  • Wery well done kucewmi..!

  • Draken was beautifull aircraft, agile and fast. Nice delta wing desing! Too bad they are not in use in Finnish Air Force anymore. Sweden, you ROCK!!!

  • Perkele tuo oli komea kone!

Ennen näki noita harva se päivä,kun asun Lapin Lennoston kupeessa, vaan nykyään näkeepi vain Hornetteja

  • What engine did the dragon have? I heard it was swedish made and not licensed flew like 100-250mph faster than all other planes in the world.

  • @kulmedfarbrorful the engine was a Swedish license copy of a Rols-Royce Avon, I heard that the Draken still holds the Finnish airforce's speed record in level flight, the second Draken prototype unintentionally broke the sound barrier during the first test flight, while climbing none the less.

  • Very brave video in all respects! One of the few filming works, where hard rock plays well. Many thanks for the production team, pilots and airspace controllers for the flights of the yellow.

  • My father flight with that.

    The best thing ever.

    LONG LIVE DRAKEN

  • no worries. we build our own. ,,|,,

    friendly greeting. yeah.... F......

without Finnish expertice you wouldnt have anything beyand Biplanes.

  • The long line of Draken fighters at 4:19 is the Swedish airforce. Not the Finnish.

  • it does look like a killer, but more Drakens were crashed than MiGs in Finnish Air Force :(

  • Only two Drakens crashed. Altogether MIGs were crashed at least five.

  • Oh sorry, I meant those MiG-21 "Fishbeds". I never remember that FiAF used also MiG 15s.

  • I mean all variants of "Fishbed" excluding MIG-15.

  • yeah, but there were more crashes with Draken than what they had with MiG 21. I wouldn't be so surprised in the case of MiG 15, since Draken is by far better than MiG 15.

  • @Zombibombi62

Finnish Air Force only had four MiG-15 UTI trainers between 1962-1977, not the actual fighter! Also, a total of *nine* MiG-21s were lost (MG-80, MG-79, MG-63, MG-139, MG-115, MG-120, MG-117, MG-128, MG-122, listed in order of events) against ONE Draken (DK-231). The other DK lost it's engine but landed safely. It was decommissioned after the event.

  • @KarriKoivusalo okay, thanks for the info :D

  • Probably thee coolest video of Draken I have ever seen... I can just picture those finnish pilots with hairy chests, cigar in mouth and balls of steel.

They would probably fly circles around the swedish Draken pilots;-).

  • my grandmother's cousin has desinged one of the wings on the plane i think it was the right one

  • holy fuck that is a sexy aircarft

  • great video!

  • Super video, nice machine

  • I really like the overall look of this aircraft.

  • drop-dead stunning plane, great music, great video 5*

  • Coolest flying formation ever in aviation history at 3:47!!!

  • un imprecionante video en honor de uno de los mejores

aviones caza del mundo.FELICIDADES un gran saludo

    desde MEXICO.

  • The Swedes have always had excellent designs and self-dependent when it comes to fighters. Hats off to Sweden.

  • Both the J35 and the J39 have started it all. Between 1967/69, the project plans for the SAAB 39 Gripen, were stolen from Sweden. They were recovered after a while, by a team of two, from the offices of a known leader industry in Munchen. It would be a perfect story for a movie. The guys that recovered the SAAB drawings are still living, we will have to wait few more years before this story can be issued in details.

  • = SAAB

  • And the Finnish desing within. heh.

the bitter (for swedish) fact is that they coudlnt have perfected the whole thing to beginwith..

    without prior Finnish input..

but as always.. they just cant be bothered about who did this and that.

    so tack så mycet...

  • @iolav hear hear mate

  • @Yaghnam I will take my hat off to SAAB any time. The Safir, the Draken...great stuff. Too bad they aren't what they used to be.

  • Sure they had time for it..newer had to use them..hehehehehe

  • The Saab Draken is the most distinctive delta wing in the world. Its beauty and impressive design can only be compared to that of SR-71.

  • @Skyhighdraken The Sr-71 was as ugly as a retard in clown make-up.

  • Хуйня какая то.!!

  • heheh, tuossa yhessä muodostelmassa oli varmaan kaikki suomen silloset hävittäjät ja vähän naapurinki lainassa.

  • The most beautiful jet fighter in my opinion together with the British Hawker Hunter fighter

  • Mun amiksen opettaja on ollu maalaamassa tota keltasta Drakenia =D

  • Easily the best fighter of its era along with the Mirage. Phantom was good, but it cant maneuver well.

  • name of the song

  • Finlandia by Sibelius

  • uuh and i was too fast...later 1 is something from ac/dc

  • Let there be rock

  • matte95 is crazy. We Swedes were very happy to sell the Draken to Finland. ("Finlands sak är vår!")

We're just disappointed you guys went and bought F-18s instead of Gripen!

  • To be honest, the Gripen couldn't stay in the air when the FiAF bought the F-18.

Then again it looks like you guiys are going to buy the AMV. :)

  • platypus: you can't deny that the very early gripens were pushed out too early. The Volvo engine was defective, and the software also.

Also, there was a silly requirement for the FiAF at that time that the fighter had to have 2 engines for redundancy. Still the Mirage 2000-5 and F-16-latest block were in the same tryouts. If you ask me, the pilots wanted the JAS but the brass didn't.

Still our F-18 kicks the JAS our of the sky. ;)

  • i dont think we finnish would not buy Gripens i heared they have orded F-35 B/C for replace F-18 B/C ;)

  • It wouldn't be the first time us Finns would be fighting a ground war to protect you swedes. ;)

  • Comment removed

  • In hindsight, so am I, but the Gripen just wasn't ready at the time.

But then again we eastern neighbours have bought airplanes from you guys since the 60's, or when was the Saab Safir introduced as a trainer? :)

I know you have a couple of our Pasi:s as well, but then again we have your CV90FIN :)

And we have your Saab missiles in our navy's missile boats.Just get those AMV:'s.

    I would call that a draw. ;)

  • You guys build beautiful aircraft, i love the draken but fell in love with the viggen when i was a kid in the 80's. The gripen is a neat little fighter but not as revalutionary as other designs. How many viggens are still in service? Just the reconnaissance version?

  • Comment removed

  • what the hell is the Suomi airforce?? :S

this video is celebrating draken service for which airforce? all?

  • finnish airforce :)

  • suomi = finland

  • Your english...

  • no I'm not

  • Yes but Finland used it longer than Swed! idiot....

  • eeehh... we made it, the we made a new one, that means that finland are using other countries old stuff^^ your are owning yourself idiot!

  • @95matte95 Finland havent used Draken in years. Idiot.

  • Just like the stridsv-i forget the exact number aren't Leopard 5:s and 6:s from Germany.

  • yes they are, but I didn't make a video saying that the leopard is from sweden only becous we use it.

  • on ne vaan niin raa-an näkösiä :)

  • kauniita vehkeit :))))

  • The Only advantage the Hornet have is that they can stay a longer time in air! Towards Gripen that is! The Hornet is a 3d generation Fighter and Gripen a 4d generation. Even the old Draken beats the Hornet in some aspects!

  • Gripen is 4.5 generation! :)

  • Den bästa Draken-videon på nätet !!! Sverige + Finland = SANT!

  • Wich models and Drakens had Finland? And wath weapons used with them?

  • Finnish air force had seven J35 B, five J35C twin-seaters, twelve J35 XS ( made in Finland under licende, equals to J35 F2) and twentyfour J35 F1's. Alltogether 48 planes.

The weapons were primarily the same as was in the Swedish use.

  • hahahahha u are best, our airforce have 9 mig 29,mig 21 25,and 30-40 our plane made in serbia, but ground fore is nice , greeting from serbia , gripen is good aircraft

  • for

    "al853"

    short list:

    AGM-12

    AIM-9

  • Hieno video ryskystä.

  • BEST. KITE. EVER.

  • does anyone know how many draken finland did have ??

  • Many.

  • You can see almost all of them on that one formation.

  • 40-50 including two-seaters.

  • nätti konehan se oli. ei kuulu eikä näy : ( siis lentokoneita Kemin kohdalla... hyvä video

  • Tämä muuten on paras video puolustusvoimista tuubissa.

  • "puolustusvoimista"?

Ruåttalaisten Drakeneitahan nuo oli melkein kaikki..

  • Missä muka? Ainoa ilmavoimien tunnus minkä videosta havaitsen, on suomen ilmavoimien tunnus.

  • 77 kunniaan.

  • i was able to watch it in an airshow and i fell in love with the engine roar of that cutie machine it's like a mouse roaring as a lion

  • Hyyvää viideo or whatever you say in the "it looks like my cat walked over my keyboard" language of yours.

    :D

  • Such a cool looking aircraft. Awesome.

  • Ite asun nykyäänkin alle 10km kentästä ja jotenki meinaa olla välissä ikävä noita koneita.

HN:iä kyllä näkee, mut HW:tkin on alkanu jo väheneen.
