This performance was not warm and romantic at all. It seems the tenor was more concerned with his grand standing than conveying the romantic feeling of the moment. His B-flat high notes are all three brittle without clean breath movement. This seems a bad habit continued from first learning the piece. Note the shake of the head and turn to audience when he releases the last high note which indicates his lack of sincere feelings for the aria's meaning.
bon chanteur vocalement parlant...mais Romeo et Juliette demande plus de sensibilité dans la voix que de puissance....dommage pour Gounod..et pour les amateurs de cet opéra....
I'm seeing him next week in Portland, OR in La Traviata. I saw him do it in San Diego years ago. I met him there and now we're friends. He is a super guy, friendly and accessible. He's married to a dancer/choreographer and has two boys.
I had the privilage of having a lesson with him down in Spartanburg, SC five years ago. I'm a tenor myself and at that time 20 and dreaming of singing a high C. He showed me how and we both sang it together, very exciting! He is a terrific singer and person!
This is one of my favourite tenor arias, and one of my favourite operas. This handsome young man has a wonderful voice and especially ringing top.Where is he now in his casreer-I hope he's not singing Aida or Otello, ruining the lyric beauty of his voice?
Yes, he studied at Converse College in Spartanburg, SC. I believe his teacher was Jane Roland and also at the Academy of Vocal Arts in Philadelphia where he studied with Bill Schumann and continues to study with Bill Schumann.
Richard Troxell's career is going along just fine. Is it perfect? No, but he's a very well-respected and accomplished professional singer with an International career. Not to mention that he's quite approachable and generous.
He has not sung with the Met. He has sung with NYC Opera and has performed in Avery Fisher Hall at Lincoln Center, Montpellier, Los Angeles, etc. I will say that hearing him live is a treat although the voice comes across as a bit smaller than some of the roles he tackles in my opinion.

His voice is better than his French. Why is he dressed like a Mississippi river boat gambler?

My favorite of the Troxell videos on YouTube. I'm his No. 1 fan ... of his last five operas, I've seen four.
