@STONEBEADMAKER but "Sweet Old World" is not included in Live at the Fillmore, is it? It really is a great performance, but unfortunately Sweet Old World was not played during those sesions... unless I am wrong, in which case I would love to listen to that version..
The definitive version of this song is on her TOTALLY ESSENTIAL disc LIVE AT THE FILLMORE. All my favorite Lucinda songs are on there, and particularly disc one, where she is obviously fairly hammered, and slurry, slow, and super yummy in the delivery of all the best ''heart wrenching lines'' that make her music so utterly unforgetable.
When I first heard this, it was on an oldies channel on internet radio as background while I was working. It had the power to filter through and make me stop and listen carefully.
I've loved it ever since. Clearly means a lot to a lot of people.
To Sarahfran...your son sounds so much like Joel, a big happy grin, but clearly other things were going on inside. Still, the happy part of him was real, and very contagious. He was much admired and loved, and is much missed. Sometimes, and you may feel this too, I am so angry that he ended his life, with so much promise, so many people who wanted him to hang on...I know that incredible pain...know that I sympathize and send you a big hug
Remembering my beautiful son, who loved to hug and garden and make music, and one day couldn't take it any more and left this sweet old world, and so many tears and so much pain...for us. Still I love and miss him. Always will.
@mainewrite , I lost my beautiful boy too. He got type 2 diabetes at 25, and was gone by 29, just wouldn't, couldn't accept the reality of his disease and only took insulin in emergencies. he left a big ragged hole in my soul. i remember his absolute joy in everything, always a smile, no matter how grim things mght really be. He and this incredible pain are with me forever.
@ekwhiteca Thank You.He wasn't even obese, he was underweight, they said it was some kind of autoimmune process that targeted his pancreas and killed it; just like that. Diabetes is such a maliciousand horrible disease, i try to warn all the young people i know; so many think they are 'pre-diabetic'. Well so was jimmy. until the day he woke up and he wasn't 'pre' anymore. He passed five years ago this week. I've beendoing a lot of grieving this week, lucinda helps a lot, sometimes.
When someone you love takes their life, it changes your world forever. This song is the most heartbreaking I have ever heard. I can't listen to it very often.
My Homeroom teacher made us listen to this song for some reason, at first we were laughing but then he told us to listen to the words. One second later the whole class was crying. I'm like wow how a song changes peoples mood from laughing to being sad. =[
What a great and awesome songwriter. This woman's songs have been covered by so many artists. What talent, and what a long road to her recovery. God Bless You, Lucinda.
It was my understanding that she had been in recovery from substance abuse. I could be wrong, but that was what I thought. Or maybe she's fallen off the wagon again, I don't know. She's so talented, but such a user.

It just seems wrong for a boy to get type 2 at 25. My condolences for your loss.

Really artfully done, as well as the delicacy of the subject matter, make this a crafted, wonderful song...

I had never known this orginal version, I grew up with Emmylou's cover however, and I love them both so much!!
